Hola amigo! We are Greg and Hillary - a husband and wife team that loves traveling, going on adventures, and helping others do the same! For the past two years or so we have been living in and traveling through Mexico! We have lived in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico City, and Querétaro. I love, love, love Campeche. So glad you made it there. Try to get to the pyramid site at Edzna if you can. Also, some of the most amazing seafood you will have anywhere in Mexico.
Don't worry our whole state has fewer poeple than Merida city, we're easy to get unnoticed.
If you make it that far you should visit Palizada a Pueblo Magico and Calakmul Archaeological site, saludos güeros.

mi bello campeche, a comer en los portales de san francisco, a visitar la carretera escenica, a comer tortas de cochinita, a nadar a playa san lorenzo, y a disfrutar los paseos y los espectaculos de luz y sonido en los antiguos fuertes coloniales, es una bellísima ciudad que te permite conocer y disfrutar de su gastronomía y clima, la gente es amable y el mar, tibio y tranquilo, que lo disfruten amigos.

A los mexicanos nos hace falta perder el miedo y lanzarse a la aventura, yo por ejemplo antes cuando era muy joven hasta solo me iba a otros estados para conocer y ahorita me pienso ir solo desde la CDMX hasta BCS y parando en cada sitio interesante del país.
Le recomiendo visitar Campeche. Es hermoso su slogan es El tesoro escondido de México

Perfect, Campeche is beautiful, after Campeche you should go Palenque, Cañón del Sumidero, San Cristóbal de las Casas, Comitán de Domínguez, Las Nubes, Bonampak, Lagos de Montebello, Las Guacamayas, Yaxchilán, Agua Azul, Tziscao, Museo del Ámbar, Lagos de Colón, Selva Lacandona, Ruta del Café, etc, etc, all that in Chiapas.
Es que Campeche es un must! Quiero volver. Es hermosa la "ciudad amurallada". Y de noche es preciosa.

I agree that Campeche looks like San Juan, Puerto Rico, where I am from. They are both fortified Spanish Caribbean cities. They are both built in brick masonry and plastered with painted lime based mortar. La Havana, Cartagena, Colombia and Santo Domingo all have a similar feel. Regards.

Campeche looks so clean.
Look over the wall on the Malecon trash in the ocean its degusting !! They need to clean it up !!!!
the city was indeed super clean! Pamela--we didn't see any trash along the malecon or in the water...not sure when you last saw it but maybe they have cleaned it up?
Yucatan peninsula has different weather. Durango and zacatecas are the coldest states
I am so glad that you guys made it to Campeche, a laid down, colorful and friendly city. I kindly suggest a visit to Edzna ruins, extremely beautiful and of a totally different feel and style regarding Chichen Itza (Classical Maya architecture is called Puuc (Edzna, Uxmal, Kabah…); Chichen Itza has a thorough mixture of the Mexican Highlands style). A word of warning though: mosquitoes are fierce; take a good repellent against them if you venture inland in Campeche. Have a nice stay!

Don't forget to visit San Cristóbal de las Casas in Chiapas and from San Cristobal the indigenous towns of San Juan Chamula and Zinacantán and there you won't find the beautiful and touristy cities or places you have been to, but in the indigenous towns you will know about the customs of the chamula indians for example inside the church in San Juan Chamula you can see the chamulas practicing a ritual surrounded by the catholic images, those towns are also very visited by the tourists so the inhabitants of Chamula and Zinacantán are not dangerous with the foreigners.

Campeche is a new city coming out from the shadows. It was known as campeche to campeche meaning that campeche just 15 years ago was unknown to mexico.
Campeche history is like to those of a book. They had to build murals to prevent pirates inventions. And you can see cubas lighthouse from some sides of el malecon..

I'm so happy you get to visit my home town.. don't forget to as for a "pan de cazón" and if you happen to visit the mercado Sainz de Baranda, look for a jiggly dessert named "majablanco", kind of like a gelatin made of coconut milk... and don't get scared if you hear cannions on the night... there is a show in the "Puerta de Tierra", go see it, is really entertaining.

Great, it is a pleasure to visit Campeche, recommendation: eat seafood, also pan de cazon (typical dish), visit the forts, in the main park of downtown at 8 pm they project a video that shows part of the history, traditions, culture and beauty of the state of Campeche. Enjoy the city.

Night life in Campeche: go to Portales de la Plazuela de Sn Francisco. You MUST eat "pan de cazón" there and ask for a Horchata de Campeche. Delicious! I those cities there are not too much lif from 12-16hours because of the sun. Try to go to central market at 5 am... it is full!
