here in the Ph * if you're a moreno or brown skin probably you'll shine more on the modeling, pageantry, something related to fashion/clothings etc * if you're light skin probably an idol path, actor but the thing is FOR ME the real problem is that the wardrobe, makeups, style of the artists why? because they are those always on the camera like come on... groom them properly everytime they gonna appear on tv or any digital platforms if you want to trend new styles, kinds of makeups etc do it properly i noticed these problems especially on groups, they are always looks awful for me 😑 i kennat haha if their dresses are not too loose, theyre too big 😑

well now that they've matured its good that they want that bcos lets face it when they are starting since they are influence by what they idolized & were even trained by korean ent thats what they are emulating. i guess now since they have broaden their fields their perception has changed as well. i see that they have learned to love their beauty as a filipino even the style obviously changed its good to see that they embrace their roots and that what makes them mote exceptional and admirable

They composed, produced their own songs, choreograph their own dances and the bunso is their creative director of most of their mvs and concerts. They are so much involved in their music now.

That's what I love about SB19 pilipinong pilipino talaga that's the reason why maraming nakakarelate sa kanila because they're just like normal people kahit ang layo na ng inabot nila and they inspired us fans to do the same like reach for the stars. It's high time to appreciate the filipino beauty more.
As an A'TIN, I appreciate it and grateful at the same time. Mas na broaden yung knowledge ko regarding sa 'thoughts' ng casuals sa SB19. Mas lalo ko minahal ang mahalima at mas lalo ko na appreciate ang pagiging fan ko bcs hindi ako sa itsura na attract at firsthand kundi sa talent mismo. Kumbaga, bonus na lang yung pagiging pogi nila sa paningin ko at naming mga fans nila. Not to mention na lahat sila ay down to earth at mababait na artists regardless ng achievements nila. Agree din ako sa sinabi nila regarding sa 'beauty standards' dito sa Philippines. Mas na a appreciate kasi ng karamihan ang mga mixed race kesa sa mismong sariling atin. Reality hurts nga talaga. ken and Pablo #PabKen for me they are the most appealing and handsome, tehir strong aura, beautiful yet strong manly facial features makes my head turn 360 i swear i've seen them many times in person and both pablo and ken's beauty is just next level. they will draw your eyes into them even though they aren't looking at you. plus their voices the way pablo speaks so smartly and ken's deep and soothing voice hays
We saw their concert in NYC, we were 5, 2 of us know them more, and 3 newbies, we were seated at the promenade, fr that distance all of us noticed Stell as the most striking, handsome and next is Josh. We were able to get a little closer, and then we picked a third Pablo. You see, it's just not the face. it's the strong aura which we noticed fr afar.
During their first few concerts, the time when he looked different (disclaimer: I'm a Stell-biased since Go Up era), people picked him out as the most attractive, something which the camera cannot fully capture
They are all good-looking, but I tell you, Stell's tremendous talent adds to it, his confidence, the way he carries himself on that stage. He seems to be the most solid, strong member. Of course, everyone has different opinions, but 5 casuals with 3 had no clue about them and chose the same guy, that says a lot. 🤭

Before I am so sensitive when I heared someone talking negative about their visuals but as time goes by I get matured as a fan coz if my idols didn't give a damn about what other people said to their physical appearance so why would I. The important thing is I love them for who they are and they INSPIRED me in so MANY ways. 💙

I don't really stan but i stan SB19's music, talents & humility bonus na lng ang visuals. My ideal visual is tall, moreno, expressive eyes & lean that's why KenTin got my attention. Filipino standard of beauty (male & female) usually Amboy or chinito/ Mestiza Chinita. Spread the LOVE, spread SB19's MUSIC. 💙😊
Thank you El for shedding light into these topics. They are relevant and addressing it now seems fitting since the rise of PPOP. Thanks to SB19 for unapologetically showing their Filipino features out there despite the constant discredit they are getting from fellow pinoise. We all can just hope that our PPOP idols in the future will be more diverse and inclusive.
They are artist. They re in the industry for us to enjoy their music. And we love them because of their story and personality. Their visuals are just a big bonus.
The first time I watched SB19 on ASAP in 2019, nabaduyan ako sa kanila especially kay Pablo. I remember hating his speaking voice and his name then na Sejun - i thought trying hard maging KPop. But fast forward to 2021, it was also Pablo who converted me into an avid A'tin. After seeing "What" MV and learning about Pablo's creative genius, I have nothing but shame on my initial judgement and full respect for SB19 talent.I saw them sa PPopcon & Dunkin concert last year, guapo sila lahat pero si Pinuno may x factor talaga :-)
I totally understand their preferences. Josh was the first one I chose based on looks alone. I didn't really notice Felip/Ken. I was more intrigued coz they are a pinoy group that's creating a stir now. I mean, it's a dream come true since I'm very patriotic (didn't get into kpop coz I believe in pinoy talent). Since we're talking about Pinoy beauty standards, I really don't find kpop idols attractive at all. I prefer Filipino men (chinito, moreno, mestizo), coz they really look like real, strong men to me. I became an A'tin after watching not only their MVs, but the making of their music. I had to watch several interviews, listening to how they speak and how they answered questions coz that's way more important than aesthetics. Surprisingly, I ended up liking Felip the most, esp after I watched Bulan and the making of. I usually like the ones who speak well. Although public speaking isn't Felip/Ken's strength, he has a crazy/beautiful mind. He has broken Pinoy beauty standards and stereotypes, which surprised many, and I find the most attractive of them all.
There's a lot of A'tin with similar experience. Noticed the others first but ended up falling for Ken, same with me. Ken is just so effin attractive, and the more you learned more things about him, you will fall harder.

This is so true. But in my case, hindi pa ako fan ng esbi but Ken already catched my attention because of his aura and beautiful and unique voice. I never been a fan of any group, but after I became to like Ken, na curious na din ako sa group nila. I really love and appreciate how Ken embraced his tan/moreno skin and talent. In a country wherein being moreno is not usually the ideal, Ken is out there embracing his rich moreno skin. Plus yung pagiging proud bisdak din niya na never niyang kinalimutan kahit sikat na siya. Also, I love how he doesn't conform with the society's standards, rather he makes his own rules and do the things he's passionate about. Especially on his music, makikita mo talaga how great artist he is kasi he doesn't make music based on his audience/fans liking/preference, rather he makes music that he loves and enjoys the most. I think those are some reasons why Felip/Ken is loved by many, even non-a'tin/casuals.
These people need to see SB19 in person. They might not be yung Korean beauty standard na gustong gusto ng mga Pinoy but when you see them in person, you will be amazed at how strong their presence is. Cameras don't do them justice. I used to be like that when I got hooked into Koreanovelas, but when I started stanning SB19, it changed.

Very acceptable response coming from casuals who don't know their actual personalities, have never followed their story etc. We all start from somewhere, most A'TIN stories talked about being intrigued by their talents first and visuals next. The thing is, it's human nature that we view someone to be more attractive once we get to know them. Once we know their story, struggles, talents, personalities, humor. One can be conventionally attractive but you won't be able to see the appeal. I for one saw them as "normal" when I started to get to know them. The talent really got me, so I observed and watched and realized one day that these people are beautiful because of everything they stand for. I guess that's when you know you already love someone (not romantically). My view on beauty standards drastically changed when I got to know them. And for that I am grateful for these five. I hope at least one of the interviewees dig deeper, because they won't regret it. That I am very sure of. :) Thank you for this. P. S. I saw them multiple times live and they are all handsome. It struck me as ironic that we preach about loving our own moreno/morena skin while finding someone who is East Asian passing to be the most attractive. Don't get me wrong, I love Jah, but he, too, wants to be known for his talent, not his looks. What sets SB19 and PPop in general is that I can relate to them, not because of their looks but because they work hard to share their artistry. Someday, I hope, more Filipinos will learn to recognize and appreciate the talent that our artists have to offer.

@mjaifah6538 Indeed! If their preference is someone of Justin's looks, then so be it. But it doesn't mean that others are "ugly" or "not worth of praise" just because they weren't chosen! Then again, this is the Philippines, and our beauty standards are similar to the Korean's beauty standards, so I'm not really surprised by the results. Hoping maybe in the future (or now if possible, we'll never know) get to appreciate and love our own facial features and beauty! Sorry, this was really longer than I intended it to be.

I love how they're picking mostly between justin and stell because as an a'tin and taga-farm, I've seen first hand what stell went through at the beginning of their stardom and I'm just so happy how casuals are recognizing him as a really good looking person. I was KPOP fan before but now I shifted to a PPOP fan. When I saw SB19 I thought to myself to support our own. I see them all handsome and their talents are indisputable. However, Ken struck me the most. Idk, when I started stanning SB19, I caught myself always looking at Ken during their MVs, live performances, vlogs, interviews... My eyes are always on him. Myghaaaad... They got no idea how gorgeous and sexy Ken Suson is in person.🤭 The pictures or even the vidz. in socmed doesn't do justice of how good-looking SB19 is especially KEN/Felip in person. And Ken is definitely not the person you will usially see in the Malls, kasi apaka-pogi nya sa personal. He's tan skin is actually making him look more manly, plus apaka-liit ng mukha with perfect face features.
That's the white skin bias at work. You'll hear it everywhere, may-kaya o mahirap. I remember having a conversation with our housekeeper about the wife of a cousin of mine. Hindi daw siya maganda, gumanda lang nung pumuti yung skin. She side-eyed my mom as if saying baliw ako because I went on a rant about the illogical beauty standards ng karamihan ng Pinoy. My mom's Korean-obsessed so wala ako kakampi haha.
I saw them @ the LA concert and Ken and Pablo both stood out to me. They don't give the most fan service but I was so drawn in by them. Ken looked unreal, like a doll in person because of his sculpted facial features. Pablo has beautiful eyes.
Agree! Pablo and Ken are the most attractive to me. Coming from a person that grew up and lives in the US. I haven’t been to the Philippines in over 20 years so maybe that’s why I can relate to the love of the Korean beauty standard. We all have our preferences but SB19 just speaks to my soul. I relate to the interviewees a lot. When I first got into SB19 and was looking for someone to be my bias, I immediately picked Justin because I thought he was the most handsome. However, as I get to know them more, I slowly gravitated towards Ken and Pablo. I now found the two very attractive because of their aura and talent (not taking away from the good looks and talent of the other members). Honestly, I'd prefer it more if people find the boys handsome not because they look like Kpop idols but because they represent the average Pinoy. Wouldn't it be nice if the world recognize them like that and not confuse them with East Asian races? I remember Nora Aunor. She was not the standard beauty that Pinoys prefer but the masses loved her because they did not feel intimidated and they see her as someone relatable. SB19 is similar to her and I hope they would continue to be approachable and humble even as they become more successful.
My take on this, we may keep on preaching/saying to love our own skin BUT still without us knowing it our eyes will stray to fare skinned individuals, kaka lungkot but yun pa rin ang realidad til now. Hirap maging morena/moreno FYI..I 💙 them five, just a POV of a morena 🙂

Fact is they are very handsome and attractive oozing with charisma in person!! Many you can call handsome but no sex appeal. But these boys can make your jaw dropped when you see them in person. Their visuals on lens & camera doesnt give a justice. You have to see them in person! They look like wattpad living characters!

This feature is very interesting to me. I typically go for the “Euro”-type initially (except for the skin color…as I like both light and dark-skinned). But once I hear the person speak or react or emote, the personality becomes the attraction (if he is smart or sweet or sultry or some other unique trait). I am guilty of looking at physical beauty when I first encounter artists in the entertainment world. I too, “judged” the members of SB19on their looks the first few times I saw their videos. But after seeing and hearing them over time, I’ve learned to appreciate each member for what they contribute to the overall piece. Today, I admire each one, especially when they come out wearing outfits that show their unique personalities. With almost every performance, I “stray” when it comes to biases. I keep changing my mind. So, it’s Mahalima for me, I guess.

Sa isang A'Tin na kagaya ko, na hook ako hindi dahil sa looks nila kasi nakikita ko na sila yrs before ako naging A'Tin, minahal ko sila kung ano sila as artist at members. To me SB19 are artists, not idols. 💙 The colonial mentality of Filipinos has been cultivated in the Spanish Era, and even in the American era, our indigenous people were looked down upon. It was as if our natural tan skin is dirt that they can wash off. I do hope Filipinos will one day learn to love their own. Madalas mauuna pang maka appreciate mga foreigners before we even take a second look and give what is ours a chance.

Ken is different because his aura is a mixture of looks and angas. Not saying na hindi maangas ang ibang members, pero iba yung level ng swag niya. Kung makikita mo siya sa mall, lilingon ka talaga because of how he carries himself. Kahit nakahoodie, baseball cap, and face mask pa siya, he will stand out because of the angas.
That's what I love about SB19. You can easily relate to them coz they look real Filipinos. They don't try to look like Koreans or imitate the looks of other foreign idol groups.
after the finale of Dream Maker, a lot of people had been commenting backhanded compliments against other ppop groups by saying that there's finally gonna be a group that would "sell well" in the east asian market because the members are actually handsome. It just goes to show that people really prefer visuals over talent

I was eight when I first introduced to K-Pop Idol which is 2ne1. And after that I dream to see someone who is a Filipino breaking the set standards of Filipino when it comes to defining beauty. And this boys appear and didn't disappoint me for them being a talented and artistic Filipino which breaks the rules of defining beauty like, you need we be a foreign like beauty just to fit in this industry. SKL na Stell used to be bashed coz he looks so much Filipino and not an idol and make him so insecure about himself. And this reflects how filos view artist here. Glad that at least mas marami na ang open minded ngayon. I love Stell even before coz he's really handsome Filipino and his attitude as well.

I’m not ASIAN, I appreciate SB19 because of their talent. The answers really surprised me…I believe this is WHY many Ppop groups sadly don’t get support. 😢 I personally am a fan of quite a few and I appreciate their skin tone.
I was bracing myself for the worst at the beginning of the video but I decided to keep an open mind and continue on. The interviewees are actually highly articulate, respectful and honest with their answers. As an A’Tin, it’s refreshing to step out of the echo chamber sometimes and listen to what the casuals would say. I’ve gathered invaluable insights thanks to this video.
I appreciate SB19 not just by looks but also their talents and charisma. Photos don't do justice to these amazing artists. I wish other Filipino casuals would also see that. And I do hope our beauty standards broaden. I feel like those who are beautiful and darkskinned are the most beautiful. And btw, some whitening products cause cancer and whiter skin are prone to skin cancer due to uv exposure! Let's embrace our genes!

if we are judging them based on korean standards, definitely justin would be everyone's choice. not saying na hindi pogi ang ibang tao sa grupo, but na siya talaga ang pinaka pogi at ethnically ambiguous sa face. but at the same time, i believe that they all look filipino. Oo nga, totoo na , you would probably see a person more like ken's appearance walking down manila, but at the same time, they all look filipino, even justin. filipinos come in all shades and eye shapes, south east asia as a whole is like that anyways... filipino standards though i believe lahat sila pogi naman. and nothing wrong about pablo's new hair (long,) but if he had stayed with the short hair, he and justin would be on par for korean beauty standards na talaga. justin and pablo look filipino.. very much, its just that people group certain aspects of appearance under the moreno, chinito, mestizo categories.
The good thing about Filipinos is they value talents more than visuals. I like SB19 for who they are. They're beautiful, they don't have to fit the K standard of beauty.

Never na naging maputi. Noong mid 90s dumating yung mga whitening products. Super hirap kasi makahanap ng work noon pag hindi ka maputi. At naging isang malaking industry na sya noong dumating ang Asian series. Sad.. Ako, I love my morena skin, di na nga ako halos magpayong pag lumalabas except pag masakit na sa balat ang sikat ng araw.. Yung morena skin ko, hindi pantay, maputi na sa loob. pangit tingnan, kaya nakaka insecure. Tas nagkakaron ka pa ng sunspots. 😢 Now regarding SB19'S looks, photos just don't do them justice. Grabe ang looks. Casuals need to see them personally. Fanboys can attest on how gorgeous they are. Kahiya nga dahil as a Gen X, ang tanda ko na dapat di ba para sa ganto, I do find some East Asians good looking sa mga celebrities. Meron din naman akong mga faves. But believe me, as a former employee sa hospitality industry, mas maraming guwapong pinoy, maputi man o moreno ang balat..

For a Filipino American, Felip is the most attractive one because he looks more like a combination of Native American and Hispanic. I’ve seen real Koreans whose faces have not been “fixed” so the Korean look doesn’t really appeal to me. Yes, Justin is actually a “pretty” boy but I thought he and Josh were Koreans when I first saw their pictures. Ken was the one who got my attention because of his “foreign” Western look.

Hello po, just wanna say thank you for this content. It's so nice to hear the casuals thoughts about #SB19. I just want to correct and add information po. " SB19 are not trained in South Korea ". Yes they're been trained under Korean Idol System by their Korean teacher, but it was in Makati, Philippines. I totally agree that a big factor that Filipinos beauty standards came from mainstream media. The way they fed us the so called " Beauty". The statement that SB19 are like normal Filipino, I agree to that. It is one of the reason I love them cuz they are relatable. They've been proud showing their Filipino traits. Though at first when they are still under Korean management, it can't be help to see Korean traits. Because that's how they'd trained before. I love that in this content there is realization to love our own. I just hope someday Filipino will patronize, support and love our very own first over foreign acts.

Their opinions are all valid and most are accurate. Most filipinos consider "foreign-looking" people as beautiful. But for me, SB19 are all handsome. They have different kinds of handsomeness and they might not fit the beauty standards of some people and that's okay. Same goes to foreigners-- who might look so beautiful for us but in their country they're just normal-looking people.

They composed, produced their own songs, choreograph their own dances and the bunso is their creative director of most of their mvs and concerts. They are so much involved in their music now.

We saw their concert in NYC, we were 5, 2 of us know them more, and 3 newbies, we were seated at the promenade, fr that distance all of us noticed Stell as the most striking, handsome and next is Josh. We were able to get a little closer, and then we picked a third Pablo. You see, it's just not the face. it's the strong aura which we noticed fr afar.
During their first few concerts, the time when he looked different (disclaimer: I'm a Stell-biased since Go Up era), people picked him out as the most attractive, something which the camera cannot fully capture
They are all good-looking, but I tell you, Stell's tremendous talent adds to it, his confidence, the way he carries himself on that stage. He seems to be the most solid, strong member. Of course, everyone has different opinions, but 5 casuals with 3 had no clue about them and chose the same guy, that says a lot. 🤭

The first time I watched SB19 on ASAP in 2019, nabaduyan ako sa kanila especially kay Pablo. I remember hating his speaking voice and his name then na Sejun - i thought trying hard maging KPop. But fast forward to 2021, it was also Pablo who converted me into an avid A'tin. After seeing "What" MV and learning about Pablo's creative genius, I have nothing but shame on my initial judgement and full respect for SB19 talent.I saw them sa PPopcon & Dunkin concert last year, guapo sila lahat pero si Pinuno may x factor talaga :-)

I totally understand their preferences. Josh was the first one I chose based on looks alone. I didn't really notice Felip/Ken. I was more intrigued coz they are a pinoy group that's creating a stir now. I mean, it's a dream come true since I'm very patriotic (didn't get into kpop coz I believe in pinoy talent). Since we're talking about Pinoy beauty standards, I really don't find kpop idols attractive at all. I prefer Filipino men (chinito, moreno, mestizo), coz they really look like real, strong men to me. I became an A'tin after watching not only their MVs, but the making of their music. I had to watch several interviews, listening to how they speak and how they answered questions coz that's way more important than aesthetics. Surprisingly, I ended up liking Felip the most, esp after I watched Bulan and the making of. I usually like the ones who speak well. Although public speaking isn't Felip/Ken's strength, he has a crazy/beautiful mind. He has broken Pinoy beauty standards and stereotypes, which surprised many, and I find the most attractive of them all.
There's a lot of A'tin with similar experience. Noticed the others first but ended up falling for Ken, same with me. Ken is just so effin attractive, and the more you learned more things about him, you will fall harder.

This is so true. But in my case, hindi pa ako fan ng esbi but Ken already catched my attention because of his aura and beautiful and unique voice. I never been a fan of any group, but after I became to like Ken, na curious na din ako sa group nila. I really love and appreciate how Ken embraced his tan/moreno skin and talent. In a country wherein being moreno is not usually the ideal, Ken is out there embracing his rich moreno skin. Plus yung pagiging proud bisdak din niya na never niyang kinalimutan kahit sikat na siya. Also, I love how he doesn't conform with the society's standards, rather he makes his own rules and do the things he's passionate about. Especially on his music, makikita mo talaga how great artist he is kasi he doesn't make music based on his audience/fans liking/preference, rather he makes music that he loves and enjoys the most. I think those are some reasons why Felip/Ken is loved by many, even non-a'tin/casuals.

Very acceptable response coming from casuals who don't know their actual personalities, have never followed their story etc. We all start from somewhere, most A'TIN stories talked about being intrigued by their talents first and visuals next.
The thing is, it's human nature that we view someone to be more attractive once we get to know them. Once we know their story, struggles, talents, personalities, humor. One can be conventionally attractive but you won't be able to see the appeal.
I for one saw them as "normal" when I started to get to know them. The talent really got me, so I observed and watched and realized one day that these people are beautiful because of everything they stand for. I guess that's when you know you already love someone (not romantically).
My view on beauty standards drastically changed when I got to know them. And for that I am grateful for these five.
I hope at least one of the interviewees dig deeper, because they won't regret it. That I am very sure of. :)

It struck me as ironic that we preach about loving our own moreno/morena skin while finding someone who is East Asian passing to be the most attractive. Don't get me wrong, I love Jah, but he, too, wants to be known for his talent, not his looks.
What sets SB19 and PPop in general is that I can relate to them, not because of their looks but because they work hard to share their artistry. Someday, I hope, more Filipinos will learn to recognize and appreciate the talent that our artists have to offer.

Then again, this is the Philippines, and our beauty standards are similar to the Korean's beauty standards, so I'm not really surprised by the results. Hoping maybe in the future (or now if possible, we'll never know) get to appreciate and love our own facial features and beauty!

The pictures or even the vidz. in socmed doesn't do justice of how good-looking SB19 is especially KEN/Felip in person. And Ken is definitely not the person you will usially see in the Malls, kasi apaka-pogi nya sa personal. He's tan skin is actually making him look more manly, plus apaka-liit ng mukha with perfect face features.
That's the white skin bias at work. You'll hear it everywhere, may-kaya o mahirap.
I remember having a conversation with our housekeeper about the wife of a cousin of mine. Hindi daw siya maganda, gumanda lang nung pumuti yung skin. She side-eyed my mom as if saying baliw ako because I went on a rant about the illogical beauty standards ng karamihan ng Pinoy. My mom's Korean-obsessed so wala ako kakampi haha.
I saw their concert in SF, for me mas na attract ako kay Ken and Pablo because of their strong aura and charisma.
I saw them @ the LA concert and Ken and Pablo both stood out to me. They don't give the most fan service but I was so drawn in by them. Ken looked unreal, like a doll in person because of his sculpted facial features. Pablo has beautiful eyes.
Agree! Pablo and Ken are the most attractive to me. Coming from a person that grew up and lives in the US. I haven’t been to the Philippines in over 20 years so maybe that’s why I can relate to the love of the Korean beauty standard. We all have our preferences but SB19 just speaks to my soul. It’s a bonus that they’re all so beautiful

I relate to the interviewees a lot. When I first got into SB19 and was looking for someone to be my bias, I immediately picked Justin because I thought he was the most handsome. However, as I get to know them more, I slowly gravitated towards Ken and Pablo. I now found the two very attractive because of their aura and talent (not taking away from the good looks and talent of the other members).
Honestly, I'd prefer it more if people find the boys handsome not because they look like Kpop idols but because they represent the average Pinoy. Wouldn't it be nice if the world recognize them like that and not confuse them with East Asian races?
I remember Nora Aunor. She was not the standard beauty that Pinoys prefer but the masses loved her because they did not feel intimidated and they see her as someone relatable. SB19 is similar to her and I hope they would continue to be approachable and humble even as they become more successful.

This feature is very interesting to me. I typically go for the “Euro”-type initially (except for the skin color…as I like both light and dark-skinned). But once I hear the person speak or react or emote, the personality becomes the attraction (if he is smart or sweet or sultry or some other unique trait).
I am guilty of looking at physical beauty when I first encounter artists in the entertainment world.
I too, “judged” the members of SB19on their looks the first few times I saw their videos. But after seeing and hearing them over time, I’ve learned to appreciate each member for what they contribute to the overall piece. Today, I admire each one, especially when they come out wearing outfits that show their unique personalities. With almost every performance, I “stray” when it comes to biases. I keep changing my mind. So, it’s Mahalima for me, I guess.

That's what I love about SB19. You can easily relate to them coz they look real Filipinos. They don't try to look like Koreans or imitate the looks of other foreign idol groups.

after the finale of Dream Maker, a lot of people had been commenting backhanded compliments against other ppop groups by saying that there's finally gonna be a group that would "sell well" in the east asian market because the members are actually handsome. I was eight when I first introduced to K-Pop Idol which is 2ne1. And after that I dream to see someone who is a Filipino breaking the set standards of Filipino when it comes to defining beauty. And this boys appear and didn't disappoint me for them being a talented and artistic Filipino which breaks the rules of defining beauty like, you need we be a foreign like beauty just to fit in this industry. I’m not ASIAN, I appreciate SB19 because of their talent. The answers really surprised me…I believe this is WHY many Ppop groups sadly don’t get support. 😢 I personally am a fan of quite a few and I appreciate their skin tone.

if we are judging them based on korean standards, definitely justin would be everyone's choice. not saying na hindi pogi ang ibang tao sa grupo, but na siya talaga ang pinaka pogi at ethnically ambiguous sa face. but at the same time, i believe that they all look filipino. Oo nga, totoo na , you would probably see a person more like ken's appearance walking down manila, but at the same time, they all look filipino, even justin. filipinos come in all shades and eye shapes, south east asia as a whole is like that anyways... filipino standards though i believe lahat sila pogi naman. and nothing wrong about pablo's new hair (long,) but if he had stayed with the short hair, he and justin would be on par for korean beauty standards na talaga.

How the people evolved with their preferences. Standard namin noon si Richard Gomez. hehehe. the "TDH." Tall dark and handsome. Ngayon, fair skinned na, .Pangarap ko noon, yung tan na nagoglow na nakikita ko pag umuuwi noon yung mga galing Japan, because Japanese then preferred morena skinned Pinays (according to my aunt who was working there before.) Never na naging maputi. Noong mid 90s dumating yung mga whitening products. Super hirap kasi makahanap ng work noon pag hindi ka maputi. At naging isang malaking industry na sya noong dumating ang Asian series. Sad.. Ako, I love my morena skin, di na nga ako halos magpayong pag lumalabas except pag masakit na sa balat ang sikat ng araw.. Yung morena skin ko, hindi pantay, maputi na sa loob. pangit tingnan, kaya nakaka insecure. Tas nagkakaron ka pa ng sunspots. 😢
Now regarding SB19'S looks, photos just don't do them justice. Grabe ang looks. Casuals need to see them personally. Fanboys can attest on how gorgeous they are. Kahiya nga dahil as a Gen X, ang tanda ko na dapat di ba para sa ganto, I do find some East Asians good looking sa mga celebrities. Meron din naman akong mga faves. But believe me, as a former employee sa hospitality industry, mas maraming guwapong pinoy, maputi man o moreno ang balat..

For a Filipino American, Felip is the most attractive one because he looks more like a combination of Native American and Hispanic. I’ve seen real Koreans whose faces have not been “fixed” so the Korean look doesn’t really appeal to me. Yes, Justin is actually a “pretty” boy but I thought he and Josh were Koreans when I first saw their pictures. Ken was the one who got my attention because of his “foreign” Western look.

I just want to correct and add information po. " SB19 are not trained in South Korea ". Yes they're been trained under Korean Idol System by their Korean teacher, but it was in Makati, Philippines.
I totally agree that a big factor that Filipinos beauty standards came from mainstream media. The way they fed us the so called " Beauty".
The statement that SB19 are like normal Filipino, I agree to that. It is one of the reason I love them cuz they are relatable.
They've been proud showing their Filipino traits. Though at first when they are still under Korean management, it can't be help to see Korean traits. Because that's how they'd trained before.

Their opinions are all valid and most are accurate. Most filipinos consider "foreign-looking" people as beautiful. But for me, SB19 are all handsome. They have different kinds of handsomeness and they might not fit the beauty standards of some people and that's okay. Same goes to foreigners-- who might look so beautiful for us but in their country they're just normal-looking people.
