    Thank you for being so generous to shear this. After three years I am finally beginning to understand the difference in the amount of kaolin in a recipe.

    This is so above my pay grade. LOL. Your in-depth explanation of the various slips will help ALL of us choose the right one for what’s needed. Thanks John. I am relegated to buying commercial slips as I live in Jamaica and the individual slip components are not available to me.

  • @drelfenbein
    @drelfenbein 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Awesome explainer! What would be a direction I could go if I wanted a slip for greenware that I would want to crackle? Should I stick to high shrinkage materials for that?

    • @johnbrittpottery
      @johnbrittpottery  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. I have a PDF on Gohonde Spotting And that is basically a slip that is put on greenware and oftentimes depending on what's in it or how thick it is it'll crackle. Basically the slips are 70 kaolin/Neph sye 30 and you can vary the kaolin's he like growleg tile 6 ,Helmer etcetera

  • @Atliermia
    @Atliermia 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great information.try to work with slip. Have you heard about Gai-Lo-Me- tuchi (蛙目土)
    Japanese potter Shinobu Hashimoto, use this simple clay slip and obtain very fine crackles.
    Try to find similar clay in US..but No luck.
    By the way, I did visited your studio many years ago. You may remember ...Ko-no-ha, Tentoku.

    • @johnbrittpottery
      @johnbrittpottery  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, that is just a non-plastic slip. Depends on your clay and bisque or no bisque. What cone are you firing to?

    Great video, but so many adds I can’t follow easily. 2 adds for every break x 7 breaks = 14 adds in 1/2 hour. Come on TH-cam/Google, that’s a bit excessive.

    You have some useful information in your videos, but you sometimes ramble and waffle in the extreme which makes it difficult to listen to what you're saying.
