This is my mother and fathers song, and tragically we lost him 7 yrs ago to suicide and every valentines day I play this song for her and hold her so close and remind her that he lives through me their son. Thank you everyone who took the time to read this.
It’s a song that has transcended time. I don’t remember who originally made it and maybe it was the Righteous brothers, but I think it came out in the early 60’s. Does anyone have a date?
I'm 64 and Never had a love in my Life. EVERY time I hear this i imagine what it must be like to have someone to.feel that way about. I wish I could experience that before it's too late. I'm jealous of all of you; but, i am glad you got to experience that with another real, live person and not just a fantasy.
@@robertwhite8528 I understand what you're saying, but I don't know that what I've dealt with is better. I met this guy in middle school and we "went steady" for three years. We split up, each got married to others, had children and went through divorces. We then met up again and we were together for two and a half years. When I found out he was cheating on me, I split up with him again. The only problem was that, for me, he was the one. That was over thirty years ago and my heart still hurts. I dated others, but he was still it. Even though he's now deceased, I still love him. I always wanted a forever relationship. I didn't get it either.
@Desade that's a lovely memory! My parents song was First Time Ever I Saw Your Face. My Pops used to dance my mom around whenever it came on. I love that memory, too. God Bless!!!!
I lost my Mother to Cancer 5 years Ago she Was the only one in my entire family who understood my problems with Depression and Isolation after she died I had to live with my Dad and Stepmother Who didn't understand at All and sent me to group homes The rest of the family has emotionally abused and Isolated me from almost All other Family. Went to Nam in 67 hoped and prayed she would wait for me . In Nam 22 months and 11 days she sent me a letter everyday and she met when I stepped off the plane we were married in five days spent 31 years together before she went to heaven. Three beautiful children and 9 grand children. I will always miss you and need you someday soon.
My girl friend of a year was telling me how wonderful she found men in uniform !!! So in 1965 (age 17) I joined the Army and went to Vietnam !!! 13 months later when I returned she answered the door with her NEW boyfriend !!! She found out she was against the Vietnam war and was a peace loving hippy !!! Well, at least she waited until I got home !!! The best advice I can give you, DO what you think is best !!! The ONLY person that knows you and your situation best is YOU !!! Good luck brother !!!
My wife and I started dating when we were in high school. After graduation I joined the Corp and she went to college. We both wanted to get married but I was afraid of leaving a 18 year old widow with a child so we waited I am glad we did. She was a beautiful woman and she was as beautiful on the inside. I am glad we waited.
C Xpress Yes, I'm72 and they played at the Union Hall a block away in the 1960's when I was in High School in So.California. Wow ! where did those years go ? I married my h.s sweetheart in 1965 , he's passed 12 .5 yrs. ago and I have our memories and music. Thankful for those . God bless us all.
You'll be a god damn fossil too there laddie so don't toot your horn too loud hahaha. From a swimming little spermizoa to a fossil. That is ALL human life.
When we got married, years ago, this was the song at our wedding. My wife passed away in July from cancer, and listening to this song hurts, but in a good way. Loved ones leave, but love and a classic song like this endures.
Yes pawekwaitkowski, that film was done in 1990. They did use Bobby version the sound track, even though he did do that same song live on Andy Williams program in 1965. With no autotune, a one take performance. What a blessed individual with such a range of vocals. He was considered a tenor/contratenor. He is dearly missed.
My understanding they did not use the song from the 1965 live performance on Andy Williams show. Bobby did I believe a rrecording of this song in studio. They went with that, rather than using the live performance from 1965. However, Bobby was so blessed with such a voice, he is still dearly missed after all this years.
pawekwaitkowski7081 my understanding Bobby did do the soundtrack for the ghost movie, it was recorded in studio, did not use this live performance from 1965, from the Andy Williams show.

This song just gives me the urge to hug my wife and tell her that I love her. She’s my best friend she helped me through the hardest part of my life. She sits next to me at dialysis and when I opened my eyes after having open heart surgery she was the first face I saw. And it made me feel like I was going to be ok. I love you Anita

Getting married on 10/28/23. We plan to have this song as our first dance. This song was always played for me growing up and I’m ecstatic that it’ll have a place on my wedding day.
Overwhelminglyanxious well done both of you !! You could not have chosen a better fitting song, maybe perhaps " a time for us" from West side story, which does a solo on that song and makes it his own. Congrates, be happy, long live to you both.
The love of my life passed away unexpectedly October 18, 2023 at home while I was at work. I'm lost, I just wat to go home. We had 34 years, and our hearts were one.
My wife and I were dating when this song first came out and it quickly became our favorite song of all time. The Lord has Blessed our marriage now for more than 50 years and it is still our favorite song. After 50 years of marriage, I still light up inside every time she enters the room. Blessed, Thank You Jesus.
This was my wedding song . This was the song my wife closed her eyes too and made her way to heaven to become a bright star in the sky, I miss you sue more than words can say ❤️
Hi Paul. We have the last same name. We are originally from Brooklyn by way Cork Ireland. This song brings me to tears. May your wife Rest In Peace. God bless Tom Desmond
There's a story it was originally a poem written by a man in prison to his wife. I don't care if the story is true or not it makes this song greater for me.
Movie that this song was sung by Todd Duncan in 1955 was "Unchained" He sung it with just an acoustic guitar accompliament, in his operatic voice, to other prisoners in the movie.
This song takes me back, being only 34 now I used to dance with my gf in the kitchen to this song and had an amazing life for 6 years until unfortunately she died in an accident and everytime I hear this song now, time stops just for a bit and I can feel her presence next to me from the other side. I miss her everyday
My soon to be husband sang this to me over the phone, he was in Florida, I was in Texas. He drove 1000 miles to marry me and take me back to Florida. That was 16 years ago, he passed away in April, 2019. This beautiful song breaks my heart, but brings back such beautiful memories. I love you my darling husband, you are gone too soon.
I was 19 years old when Unchained Melody was released. Over the years I had 3 girlfriends who all wanted to make it "our song"! I'm now 77 and I don't think I have ever heard a more beautiful song.
My mother and fathers song. My dad listens to it most days while he sips his coffee in the front rooms, on the sofa, chain smoking, doing nothing until I come out and hang with him or come home from work. This song, among others from this era are my parents favourites -- my mum is suffering from Parkinsons-Dementia and was forced into a nursing home (by the gov) mid last year. Home hasn't been the same without her. Dad is so sad, and always is just that. I have a feeling it'll be their last Christmas together this year because her brain is 70% dementia 30% reality and we are at the point where both are constant. Add that with her Parkinsons Disease.. Sorry for going on. Its just this song represents 50 years of marriage, and much more. I miss my dear mum before her dementia, but I feel even more sorry for my father, a 75 year old who can't comprehend life without his wife 😢 Until recently, I never knew what my father as a sad man, until now he has been the man of the family and didnt show emotion -- now, i know that my mum was the reason why he always was as he was. Anyway.. take care, everyone -- greetings from the snowy mountains, Australia
This was my sister and brother-in-law’s first dance as husband and wife. I cry when I hear this because my sister passed away recently and brings those memories back. I love you so much sis, my heart is broken and my life is shattered. You are finally happy, free, and no more pain. RIP my beautiful sister.
An all time classic. They'll be playing this on TH-cam and radio stations around the world in the next 100 years and beyond.Mark my words : )May 7th 2023.
I was born in 1964, the year before this version was released by the Righteous Brothers. My mother had the vinyl record of this song and played it many times every day. She used to sing it to me and I would sing along with her. My parents have long since passed but whenever I hear this song on TH-cam or the radio, I shed a tear in memory of my mother. This song is an all-time classic and will be around for centuries.
Tracey Ames I still have my Mum , she showed me this song when I was 10 years old and it’s now one of my favourites and it will always remind me of her ☺️
Tracey Ames, Its all right ,You go right ahead and shed that tear. Thats the memories that we have, that are sooo good,. We try to keep memories alive, cuz after they are gone, we have nothing. And not only with , this beautiful masterpiece of a song, but lots, and lots more that comes to mind, ,, helps us do that. i;ve lost my mom and dad, and buried my daughter 35 yrs ago. I have 'memories, rolling down my cheeks ,now. And ,oh how i wish it was different; i wouldn't change things. B cuz, God made things happen that way. God bless.
My grandpa passed away when I was 12 and this song reminds me so much of him :( it use to play all the times on the oldies station. I shed tears I have so many memories , I'm 29 now and still feels like yesterday. Its a timeless classic
One of the greatest melodic songs of its period... and quite possibly one of the greatest melodic songs of all time! Long live the Righteous Brothers! 😊
This song is so emotional. I am young, married to the love of my life, have a beautiful family, contentment and great joy, and yet when I hear this song I feel sad. I can imagine being an old man looking back on life and just weeping because it’s in the past. If you’re reading this, grab those close to you and love them. Cherish every moment! This life is a vapor.
jfly888 I have not read many comments on TH-cam that were so well crafted with words full of wisdom and insight on what life can give and eventually takes away, wish you well my friend.
Young man, your Wife is a very lucky lady, for you are wise beyond your years. This song, along with several others sung by the Righteous Brothers, were among my Husband's and my very favorites. I lost him four years ago, but I can still close my eyes, hear this music, and be taken back to those times, when we were dancing in each others arms, once again.

Covered by more than 670 artists but this the the gold standard.. this masterpiece by the late great Bobby Hatfield says it all. I’m grateful to have been around back in the 60’s to hear it. I never get tired of hearing it.

FuzzleLand Sounds stupid and it is stupid, it is proven a too, put a lot on the radio, bang merciless people's ears and it will sell itself.... that is how its works. First they started to put on the radio "the ten top hits" because people liked that song or album and thus got to the top, but soon they realized that that was no needed, just put it again and again and say is the top ten this week and .... Bingo!! The price? the price music is gone... but who cares... We are making tons of money form those idiot sheeps Isn*t?
I was married to my wife for 44 years. She passed away on Aug 28, 2021. This song expresses perfectly my thoughts and emotions. I long for her touch. To see her face. To hear her voice. To feel her loving embrace. I am so lonely it hurts.
I was with the 1st Air Cav in Vietnam in 1965 and later with the 1st Brigade of the 101st Airborne until 1968 and you could hear this song over the radios at the base camp/s at night. A song of total love in a land of death. Total Irony. Brings back old memories some good some bad
@Dalton Austin First impression of Vietnam was heat which felt like a blast furnace and it generally took most people 6-7 months to get acclimatized. Many of our missions were repetitious Search and Destroy forays walking thru rice paddies or double/triple canopy jungle with around 80 Ibs of equipment on our backs in other words we were, in essence, human pack animals-The Grunts. Vietnam could be total boredom or total hell and your time was marked by a physical or mental calendar of 365 days and then you could go back to the land of the round eyes. I would recommend that you read a book by Ronald Glasser entitled "365 The Forgotten Heroes of Vietnam" which will give you a much better idea of this time in our history. There was a saying that was oh so true being that we would leave the Nam but it would never leave us. War is not a video game.
@@Sergiofreitas5If artists aren’t meant to be perfect and nobody is, like you said, then what is the point of your original comment? You claim they are entertainers and yet bash what is considered “entertainment” in modern times (for a lot of people). It’s quite interesting to read what’s acceptable to you and what isn’t.
Same this is a beautiful song. I am 13 but I have grown up listening to these amazing songs, it is sad how still not many people will enjoy it like all of us here are and have enjoyed it
This whole comment section is just a rollercoaster of human emotions and humanity in general. There are still wholesome places on the internet. I hope all of you are getting by.
I agree. I hope you are all safe too. I hope that this pandemic brings us all closer and that people realise we all need each other. No man is ever an island. There's too much hatred, division, violence, poverty and war in the world. I hope we all come out the other end of this a better society/world with a better sense of community and communalism. There's so many people out there risking their lives for us all, not just the amazing health workers, but also the people that take our trash away, the postal workers, all those that stock shelves, make the food, distribute it, all those that help bring us electricity and water etc Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart for all you do for us daily, silently and bravely. Whether you believe in politics, no matter what your political affiliation, let's come out of this better, stronger & more aware of how interlinked we all are. Time to put away the world's swords and maybe build some ploughs and demand more authenticity from our societies, our politicians and and I hope we remain humane after this towards our fellow human beings, no matter what their colour, 'race', religion. We all bleed. We should all stand together for a better world for ALL of us. It makes me weep every time I hear someone has died, each life is precious, NOT a statistic, and I want to honour all their memories by helping to create a better world for future generations. Wow, sorry for the polemic...just feel emotional these days. Please all stay safe, take care of yourselves and those around you and thank all those who are performing miracles of kindness daily. I'm not religious, but if angels exist, you are amongst us and so thank you for all you do. Love to all. 💛🧡💜 And for anyone who has dared to abuse our doctors, nurses, carers - you are a disgrace to your community and country and the world you live in.
A song which has been covered by many fine artists, but never quite as well done by anyone else as The Righteous Brothers, imo. It just has that....something intangible... that strikes right thru you.
this is another tune that u can't imagine being sung by any other artist........ the feelings that are evoked are so powerful..... i equate this song with Roberta Flack's .. The First Time i Ever Saw Your Face. these songs will still be as powerful a hundred years from now....... .. ... every listen gets better with age.
What a blessing to be a young man in the 70"s. The music that came out of that era will never, ever be topped. It seems like each and everyday a new great song was released. Songs like this one are great because they have without a shadow of a doubt stood the test of time.

A MASTERPIECE! Amazing voice, amazing scale. "GHOST" scenes in my head. The song of my childhood. In loving memory of Patrick Swayze.
😢
Yes pawekwaitkowski, that film was done in 1990. They did use Bobby version the sound track, even though he did do that same song live on Andy Williams program in 1965. With no autotune, a one take performance. What a blessed individual with such a range of vocals. He was considered a tenor/contratenor. He is dearly missed.
Leider hat Bobby von dem Film kein Geld abbekommen.
Sicher ärgerlich für ihn.

Sounds stupid and it is stupid, it is proven a too, put a lot on the radio, bang merciless people's ears and it will sell itself.... that is how its works.

I was with the 1st Air Cav in Vietnam in 1965 and later with the 1st Brigade of the 101st Airborne until 1968 and you could hear this song over the radios at the base camp/s at night. A song of total love in a land of death. Total Irony. Brings back old memories some good some bad
It's actually not unusual how many peaceful songs are sung during war-time. Glad you made it back George.
Proud of you man!

God Bless You!
I just love reading these comments. The power music has on us all is incredible.
It's definitely very touching!
And the power of love too..
Seb L they .yes they got me I lost my love

MOVING.....POWERFUL....can't help it....LOVE IT
No expensive video clips, no fancy clothes, no half-naked bodies. Just pure talent. Radio times stuff...
Well, maybe so but poor Bobby died from a cocaine overdose!!!! No one is perfect!
@@DippyHippie Well, artists are not expected to be perfect (nobody is!). Artists are entertainers. That's all.
Where has that idea gone?
True
@@Sergiofreitas5If artists aren’t meant to be perfect and nobody is, like you said, then what is the point of your original comment? You claim they are entertainers and yet bash what is considered “entertainment” in modern times (for a lot of people). It’s quite interesting to read what’s acceptable to you and what isn’t.
If any song can be considered a classic, this is it. Speaks to generations
Hello 👋🏼 Maureen Curto
Truly
Yes i heard this song 3 yrs ago and fall in love with it and am 35
It is. It's humanities landmark. This has earned its place on our recorded history.
Nothing made today can even come close to this classic.
In 2060 or something like that I'll be in my 60s... This song will be around 100 years old... I'll still be listening to it
Same this is a beautiful song. I am 13 but I have grown up listening to these amazing songs, it is sad how still not many people will enjoy it like all of us here are and have enjoyed it
+Teddy Long Keep the song alive!! Thanks so much!
I too grew up with music like this. This music has the power to reach my soul. I will continue to listen to it until I pass.
Me too.
this is one of 25 songs that I want to be played at my wake.
“Now you know that once upon a time, in the same room, of the same house, fifty years apart, Clay and George Davidson had loved eachother.”
Don’t-
This is the exact reason why i am here
STOP I CAN'T DO THIS
STOOOPPPP
I swear I’m fine…..
2025 and still listening to this beautiful song
This whole comment section is just a rollercoaster of human emotions and humanity in general. There are still wholesome places on the internet. I hope all of you are getting by.
Johnnythefirst thank God for the movie ghost to introduce this song to a whole new generation
💛🧡💜 And for anyone who has dared to abuse our doctors, nurses, carers - you are a disgrace to your community and country and the world you live in.
i can literally feel my husband slow dancing with me everytime i hear this song and he passed away 7 years ago.....
Mine has been gone since 1999, know what you mean.

A song which has been covered by many fine artists, but never quite as well done by anyone else as The Righteous Brothers, imo. It just has that....something intangible... that strikes right thru you.
The Righteous Brothers' version has "soul."
the reference to time and ill be coming home is that it is from an awful prison movie with the only good thing about it being this theme song.
this is another tune that u can't imagine being sung by any other artist........ the feelings that are evoked are so powerful..... i equate this song with Roberta Flack's .. The First Time i Ever Saw Your Face.
these songs will still be as powerful a hundred years from now....... .. ... every listen gets better with age.
No argument from me on this!
Yeah, but that Johnny Cash version of First Time that's a pretty good version . Love Flack's too.
Timeless... I get goosebumps every time those vocals kick in.
Hello 👋 How are you
Yes I do too!! This song does something to me . I cry my eyes out. It’s the most beautiful song❤
Them brothers were so amazing, and talented to the tea.
What a blessing to be a young man in the 70"s. The music that came out of that era will never, ever be topped. It seems like each and everyday a new great song was released. Songs like this one are great because they have without a shadow of a doubt stood the test of time.
Absolutely and very well said 💞
It was written in 1955 for a prison movie named Unchained (hence the title). But the Righteous Brothers sang it in 1965.
*1965: "Wow, this song is amazing!"*
*2019: "Wow, this song is amazing!"*
*3050 "Wow, this song is amazing!"*
TIMELESS
Even if english is still a language nobody would be able to tell what they're saying since it would have evolved so much.
3050: "What's a song?"
Eternal
👍👍👍 YES! Absolutely
Man, so many people commenting about losing the love of their life and coming here to listen for comfort. I am sorry for ya'lls lost. God bless you all.
Thank you
don't be sorry for our lost loves be happy if you have found love and lived through the heartbreak to love yet again!
@@keithandmariemanhard6481 It is not feasible at age 79 that I will EVER find another love after being married 50 years when my husband died ...The amount and depth of my pain at losing him remains unchanged...It is a pain that over shadows ALL...The key word is lived thru the heart break...Not possible..
amen
I know. These comments got me teary eyed. Either lost loved one or someone married for 50 years to this song.
You're a real one if your listening to this now in 2020!
