    I agree that the shock swap was totally ridiculous.

    • @Crewsy
      @Crewsy ปีที่แล้ว +21

      There was a lot that was ridiculous about the challenge. The one handed shock swap was completely ridiculous but like many of the other “challenges” it was made easier or harder based on the competitors choices.
      Rudy’s choice to go with a full sized truck certainly made things more difficult on the tight trails.
      Overall I think the challenge was a fail on OnX.

    • @om617yota8
      @om617yota8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Usually folks choose + build their rig based on the kind of trails they go on. Maybe the OnX folks should have told the competitors what trail they'd be going on, so the rigs could be built to spec. Although there's something to be said for a small vehicle fitting through a large passage, but a big vehicle vehicle not fitting through a narrow passage.

      @@om617yota8it's supposed to be a affordable build, to spend thousands of dollars on a purpose built rig defeats the objective of encouraging other less forchanet (less money to use, ) people to afford to go Wheeling, all the best to you all

      The whole series was really disappointing. The filming was horrible as well as the dialog. They made something that should have been fun, very 'meh.' It was kind of silly. Why not make the Challenge like what they would experience where they were going?
      Certainly didn't make me want to run out and buy OnX...not a bit.
      The absolute best videography was certainly Nate at Dirt Lifestyle. He's got an eye. He should give a master's class.
      Having owned a Ramcharger as a kid, I had high hopes, but the platform has some limitations. But Rudy did great work on it within the constraints of the "Challenge."
      What would be really cool would be a crossover with Fab Rats to see how much of a crawler they can make it. You can't "boat tail" the rear without removing the windows. But maybe make it like a pre-79 and just remove the whole roof. Then boat tail the nose and rear, lower it's stance, put in the Dodge 360 or maybe a newer Hemi and let 'er rip. that's my 2¢.

      OnX did NOT plan their "Off Road Challenge" very well...that was OBVIOUS as thousands of us watched the whole thing on the different channels...they DID NOT do their homework well, OR know the trails and their hard to crazy spots well, OR plan the entire challenge well. The whole thing LACKED common sense, reason and consideration for the contestants nice rigs they built and all of the hard work, time and money they put into building them. The challenge, the course, the obstacles and OnX's LACK of due preparation and FAILURE to let everyone KNOW ahead of time about the crazy, narrow, steep spots was NOT cool. Most of us SERIOUSLY DOUBT the contestants WOULD have taken their vehicles through the ridiculous challenges in such insane places and torn up and broken them needlessly like that. If OnX does anything like their challenge in the future the WHOLE THING needs to be done REALISTICALLY and REASONABLY on trails that DON'T tear the hell out of them...that is not FUN, it's just STUPID.

    Those high spring perches are putting a lot of extra torque on the springs. Need to get regular saddles for the springs that are low to the axle and re-arch the springs or change whatever you need to eliminate those perches. You'll have a lot less bending of the springs.

    Very inspiring, to get a bent up truck right again. Sometimes these things are overwhelming when they happen, and then you just go out one morning and say, "It's not that bad, I can fix this". And it's great to see this happen. It's even better and stronger than before. And by watching it I learned a few things about rear suspension. Good clear entertaining video. You're really making a decent channel into a good channel. Keep up the good work! Databyter p.s. I don't know who your cinematographer was, but they did a good job on this video. It was natural anc clear. p.p.s. Give it an oil change immediately if it was really full of unburnt fuel for days. The oil is probably bad, even if it looks like the gas has evaporated out of it. It hasn't. Not completely. Smell it to be sure. If it smells fuelly, it is. There is only a few things that can really screw up oil, and you did one of em.

Plus you can store anything for when you need to make another one after a destructive trail ride. A lot less cardboard and eye-chrometer stuff than in your dad's shop. That narrow trail and one-handed repair task were ridiculous. Lost a lot of respect for the sponsor for their poor choices. The whole point of X is to find safe trails that don't destroy your ride.

      Couldn't agree more. If you are going to include 50 inch wide trails, tell contestants BEFORE they start building their vehicles. That's a whole different class of vehicle. It's like the event planners did not understand the purpose of OnX at all. It's all about finding trails your vehicle and skill level are suited for. For example, never take a wider vehicle on a 50 inch trail. I'm pretty sure BLM and the parks don't allow that.

      OnX did NOT plan their "Off Road Challenge" very well...that was OBVIOUS as thousands of us watched the whole thing on the different channels...they DID NOT do their homework well, OR know the trails and their hard to crazy spots well, OR plan the entire challenge well. The whole thing LACKED common sense, reason and consideration for the contestants' nice rigs they built and all of the hard work, time and money they put into building them. If OnX does anything like their challenge in the future the WHOLE THING needs to be done REALISTICALLY and REASONABLY on trails that DON'T tear the hell out of the vehicles...that is not FUN, it's just STUPID!

    The rad charger moves under own steam. Most of your issues were unfinished welds. Welding, improved bracing, modified brackets and painting are completed.
    Overall size vs narrow spaces. Any plans to redesign the taillights and rear gate hatch? Removable, caged, top mount led's.
    What about driver cabin locker id location(s)? During the challenge, you mentioned that you did not have time to sort out which control operated which locker.

    Won't the torque arm and rear leaf springs fight each other and bind unless you have sliders somewhere in the system? I see that some use a shackle on the front of the torque arm instead of sliders. Dirthead Dave can probably school us all on this. :>)

    I worked in a heavy duty truck and trailer, suspension, brake and wheel-end parts warehouse. The scariest thing that I seen working there was guys reusing the u-bolts. They all have lock nuts and thus strip the bolts when reused. U-bolts are 40 bucks at the most and ensure that axle and the leaf springs stay put. I don't have his skillz, but wonder why you guys go cheap on something so important? Company wouldn't warranty the leaf springs if someone reused the u-bolts.

    Those shocksun should be rebuildable at a fraction of the cost of replacement. Should not need replacing. That particular Barnes axle truss is not enough. It barely extends onto the axle tubes. I'd call that a wannabe or poser axle truss. The truss should extend as far out on the axle tubes as possible. Out to the axle bearing housings if you can. Truss the bottom too. Actually REINFORCE the axle housing and transfer loads from the wheels to the chassis. Then add traction bars to absorb that torque that twisted the axle housing. You spent too much time, budget and effort on the roof rack that did nothing to beef the rig up.

    Those TBI self learning EFI systems 😵
    FiTECH, Sniper, Aces... - if you key in any name and problem into search you will be shocked. Most over expectation under delivery solution letely
    For fitech - search all part numbers fitech - and you will be able to source propperly working internals instead of cheap overseas junk that came installed from factory.
    Or drag the thing to someone to install a propper efi conversion.

    i don't understand why you wouldn't have metric tools. pretty much every light duty vehicle in the USA has been made with metric bolts and nuts since 1982 or earlier, granted, those early 80's vehicles used close to sizes such as 13 ( 1/2 inch is 12.9mm} or 14 ( 9/16 is 14.2mm) so everyone thought they had the right tools, we all know better now.
