Crosstrek owner here, I had it in decently deep sand, some mud and plenty of snow and never got stuck. For the price you pay you really can’t find a better AWD system. And I average 28mpg. Yeah it’s slow but I knew that when I bought it.

for the price you pay? no. also can't find a AWD that's better in what regard? Fuel economy? Performance? Reliability? Handling low traction scenarios? don't get me wrong, Subaru is great, it is not the best AWD auto maker for a certain price, especially when talking about the TFL system. I have an '02 Audi A4 that I drove quite a few winters with almost bald summer tires then eventually they were bald tires and it pulled up hills, never has ever been stuck, or gave me issues. The consensus is Quattro is the best AWD based on what people usually want from one. When it comes to the price I pay, it was less than the AWD option on a crosstrek for my Audi, I'll say that. North of 20 MPG city closer to 30 highway and not slow. regardless the crosstrek is great off road, there just are limitations from the cost saving measures taken developing the TFL AWD system. no need to start saying things like it's the best of some sort, it failed a test that is testing an aspect of a AWD system.

There is quite a bit of folks putting stock Crosstreks through a lot more than you all do and they do just fine. Literally shut traction control and if it's a manual pop it into first gear and you will get unstuck. Subies are the best on loose surfaces and have better AWD then their competitors

My girlfriend bought one, when we test drove it, it was a flash flood warning. The tires were completely bald and the thing drove phenomally, was way better than her 2018 jeep wrangler. It now has new tires and is glued to the road
I’ve got x mode on my Subaru but the dealership told me it was for downhill descents not necessarily for getting out when your stuck. Of course I’ve never been stuck in my 2018 Crosstrek…sooo maybe x mode is just overkill. Lol
I watched a deeper video which ran a variety of configurations for the slip test. It failed the 1 wheel traction test, but the tire that had traction was losing traction on the pavement. I came to realize that in the real world, you'd probably jam something on at least one of the 3 other tires to help out with traction, so I think the Crosstrek is going to be alright.

Apparently in x mode snow and dirt will have traction control however in deep snow and mode will not have traction control. Did you put it in deep snow mode?

guys this doesn't mean it's bad offroad, just the AWD system is bad at redirecting power, or that it cannot at all because it is likely an open diff for costs reasons.
That’s very disheartening. Subarus biggest claim to fame is its awd system. My 15 wrx handles better than this. Idk how similar the awd tuning and components are. But you’d think the wrx would be designed with more road worthiness and less trail worthiness given it’s ground clearance
There is something wrong with the ABS / transmission... I have 5 Subarus and only time that happened was, I had an intermittent ABS sensor. Soon as I got stuck, shut off the car for a min turn it back on and was good to go for 15 to 30 mins... Replaced the sensor the next day... 4 years later... Still runs like a champ.
Yeah X mode is crap and a good old all wheel drive system with a manual transfer case and a low range and lockers It's the way to go Event toyotas atrac really kicks ass

I’ve seen videos where the Crosstrek does well and does poorly. I think the Outback XT and Ascent have the best system. More power and better ability.

steady state low speed allows the brains to figure it out. You don't need Xmode to drive it off the rollers- just an even throttle.
