The guitar riff is obvious here but they use that electronic/techno sound because of the concept of song which is cyberpunk/futuristic. It's a combination of hiphop and metal. For me this is one of their heavy tracks.
I could definitely hear the guitar better on second listen using headphones! To me, this is one of their least heavy because the riffs are just chords in the chorus, used as complements to the electronic sound, as opposed to rhythmic riffs as the focal point sound which typical in metal genres and other Dreamcatcher songs like “Scream” and “PIRI”. I absolutely love Odd Eye though, I’d even say it’s my favorite song by them now ❤️

oh this does have metal, i mean it's described as nu metal and if you listen to the instrumental the chorus goes harder than pretty much any of their songs
On second listen I can definitely hear the instrumental better, but I still would have to say imo that this isn't anywhere near as metal influenced as their other songs :) and I'd have to disagree on the nu metal thing too, cuz Odd Eye really doesn't sound at all like the nu metal I've heard (Korn, System of a Down, Slipknot, etc). I can definitely hear the guitar riffs more now that I've listened with headphones though! And I actually love this song, I think it's my favorite by them so far ❤️

This is my one of the most favorite Dreamcatcher songs now. A slow start then an unexpected quick prechorus, and finally a brain-blowing chorus with powerful guitar riffs and great vocals.
6:41 yep there are 7 of them. Han Dong went back to China to participate in a survival show so only 6 members took part in Scream and Boca era. That survival show has helped Han Dong bloom in this comeback.
The metal influences are there but, as other comments have pointed out, it's more in the background to keep the futuristic electronic sound upfront to go with the cyberpunk theme of the MV. The album still has a lot of their normal metal/rock influence.
Thank you for reacting to this. I love the song, musically, I think it's extremely well-arranged, with a lot of really interesting choices. At the same time, I feel like it's potentially their most "kpop-friendly" title since Deja Vu. The guitars aren't as in-your-face as BOCA's chorus, and for the first time in a while there's a singable chorus, and it's also super catchy. I personally don't mind if the guitars are not as featured--there isn't a quota of "rock" that DC has to meet for me, personally. I just hope that they like it as much as we do, because it's awesome and they should be proud, and because promoting seems like a horrible grind and I hope they don't get worn down. The comeback has already outsold their last one in just four days (at near 2:1 pace), so one thing's for sure: it's their must successful comeback yet.

You should check out their performance for Wind Blows! (one of their bsides they performed at the showcase) It's really cool and a bit more "powerful" in terms of choreo imo
A lot of people have commented about the slower pace, which lends itself to the fact that they classify this as "nu metal with a hip hop rhythm". I think you might know better than me, but I feel like hip hop by nature has this sort of slower, more deliberate pacing to its rhythm which emphasizes hits on the beats rather than tempo. It sort of lends itself to the differences you're seeing here (still cool, like you said, just different). If you want something that is more in their traditional wheelhouse, they did an entire showcase to open album promotions and they performed "Wind Blows" one of this album's B-sides. Slower, yes. Now imagine if this was a Speedmetal or Thrashmetal song, how fast an brutal everything would be! They would not be able to perform this more than once per week! lol
I wouldn't say that "metal" is Dreamcatcher's base sound.... I think guitar sound, therefore rock in general, is their base influence. They have a prominent guitar sound in all their title tracks. Some of them were heavier, like their early ones, but as they progressed they started incorporating new sounds and being more diverse. Scream, Boca and Odd Eye are all different musically speaking, but in all of them you can hear the guitar. The only truly metal songs they have are some of their Japanese releases like Endless Night or No More. Glad you appreciate our girls, even if you're not so familiar with them. By the way, BABYMETAL is full on metal.... but, like Dreamcatcher, they're not bound by what people expect from them, they go their own way...

Not the first title track that didn't have a guitar prominent in the chorus. Although I wouldn't call this choreography a typical girl group dance if you compare them side by side with the likes of TWICE and IZ*ONE, it is definitely less "hard hitting" (but still intense in a different way). i think they toned down the choreo so they could sing it live. There are a lot of belting in the song this time, specially in the chorus. Siyeon for example, has been belting out the high note during the barrel jump (she doesnt exactly jump, she kinda just turns). So i guess it's fair enough to have a more simple choreo and even tho it's more simple, i feel it's more on a boygroup side this time, the sharpness and strong strikes of the dances i mean...

Loved the reaction and analysis! I think the choreography is simpler because the chorus is much more vocal/lyric focused compared to their last 2 comebacks, and they really wanted to be able to focus on hitting those power notes during live performances. There's a term for this type of chorus but its been over a deacde since i studied music theory x"D
Great choice on the intro music. I agree on the metal point - I think it's there to an extent but it's not the main focal point for the last three comebacks. It's more like an undertone. Where as the rock/metal influences was pretty much centre stage in the 'Nightmare' series.
I'm already interested in and looking forward to their future musical direction, for sure the rock influence in their sound won't fade away since it's part of Dreamcatcher's identity, the girls says so many times ..but when it comes to Leez & Ollounder ,they just store too much creativity in their mind ,you can't really expect anything until they surprised you
