Hello dear friends! I'm happy to share my first full show video with you. In this performance, I made an essential step in incorporating the Xalam (Senegalese string instrument) in the music. After years of performing only with my Senegalese drum set, I wanted to expand the experience for the audience and me by adding another color. This is the first time I'm putting the Xalam in the front, presenting my compositions with it, using its natural warm sound blended with fresh, contemporary textures - respecting its origins while exploring further. I want to thank Ran Shneck for capturing the vibe so beautifully (hand-held camera). The two standing cameras couldn't handle the sub-frequencies; therefore, they unpredictably shook and wobbled according to my playing. Last, I want to thank Nir Averbuch for putting the time to mix and elevate the recordings of this show to the max, ensuring you will have the most realistic auditory experience as if you were there with us. Super recommended in 4K and with a pair of headphones. Enjoy, share and let me know what you think and feel. Peace & Love, Ben. ❤️🙏🏽🤟🏾🇸🇳
Grand Maître AYLON, Quand viendrez-vous enfin vous produire en France ?.. Si cvela était possible pour vous, je suis prêt à faire tout mon possible pour organiser quelque chose en trouvant le meilleur endroit ou festival. Grand Master AYLON, When will you finally come to perform in France?... If cvela was possible for you, I am ready to do my best to organize something by finding the best place or festival. I send you the most beautiful energy. Jean-Yves - dJwhY
Wow Ben, we from @TeramangDrumExperience (located in Sittard, the Netherlands) really admire what you do and how you understand the West-African culture and roots music! We hope we can work together some day and create beautiful gigs, together with our musical family from Jobarteh Kunda, Brikama Sanchaba, the Gambia!
Ben Aylan, in a world of wars you appear like an angel, you do the impossible, you're speaking and act between cultures, you show, how real music make us all com together. In 99 I had a awakening hearing Toumani Diabaté and his music from Mali and from heaven. Of course I heard him live and you with your first own show only years later on TH-cam. But that is not so bad, and I will come and see you, you've put a light in my very night! God bless you!
Ben You are a true Senegalese ambassador I am Senegalese and I am very proud of you. You don't know how amazing you are. You brought our culture to a top top level. I admire your skills and techniques God bless your works
WOW! Musical genius! Directly linked to higher worlds. Every sound, every hit on the drum - pearl. The musical energy does not go down by any sound. Stunning!!!! My husband (Uzi Fox) and I listened with an open mouth
I'm pretty sure I just entered a wormhole into another universe. What an amazing concert. Just imagine if he'd played at night with some sick CGI screen behind him showing all sorts of colorful psychedelic displays to go along with his primal beats.
Congratulations! This is insane. What an amazing independence!!!! How long have you been playing? Your foundation is drum set I assume? I’ve been following you’re videos for some months now. Really inspiring stuff. Makes me want to try senegalese drumming next. I’ve been doing some uruguayan candombe before and Swiss rudimental drum.
Hi Rivan! Thank you for the kind words. I started with a drum kit, yes. Please check out my website for more about my journey in Senegal. There’s also a blog post about Doudou Ndiaye Rose’s iconic composition called Rose Rhythm, explained + a transcription available. If you wanna dig into some Senegalese drumming: benaylon.com/blog Candombe is beautiful. Technique is similar to Senegalese, hand + stick but feel and phrasing are totally different 🤩 Cheers
