    The 16-25 travel card needs its name changed because you don't need to be in that age range to obtain it. As long as you are in full time education, then you can apply (as long as you're 16+)

      You're probably thinking of the 16+ Oyster card and 18+ Student Oyster card. The 16-25 Railcard isn't part of the Oyster scheme-it's a different card offered by National Rail-and does indeed require you to apply between the ages of 16 and 25, and doesn't care about your education status. Also, +Anpu, I just want to point out that the Oyster discount of 1/3 given to you by linking it with a 16-25 Railcard only applies to off-peak fares.

      Sure the universe contained within zones 1-6. But yeah, bout time our generation got something for nothing, well £10 for 6 years not bad. Also really useful if you're travelling out of London say when I visit my daughter in Hartford or going to Gatwick or Brighton etc, only need to buy a ticket from a zone 6 station. And so easy to buy online and you can pick them up from your local station before your head off.
      I'm spending the 2k a year I save on travel cards on foreign travel what about you?

    Whats the point of the 18+ oyster card because the prices are the same as adults for buses and tube? Also does contactless payment have the daily cap of £4.50?

    • @AnpuLondon
      @AnpuLondon  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes that's correct, but 18+ oyster cards are useful for weekly, monthly and annual travel cards, because it takes 30% off.

    tq so much Anpu.your video is excellent. I m aged 62 and will be in london for 74 days on a tight budget, I will be taking buses whenever i can except occasional tube ride on weekends. !) 1) Do I buy a senior rail card and not used it at all for any rail travel out of London n get it loaded onto a normal oyster card ( to b purchased at Heathrow airport) n that will get 33 % discount on all tube rides offpeak?
    2) Can I apply online for the Senior railcard online from abroad?
    3) After I board the second bus within the first hour , do I tap my ouster card and the second ride journey will be recognised for free for the Hopper concession ?
    Appreciate your kind assistance

I plan to get the Heathrow express to London GBP7.50 online). Then traveling within London by bus and tube for sightseeing. What card would you recommend for all 7. And I believe I should get it online before arriving in London? Appreciate any other tip too.Arriving in March 2017.Thanks for now. Veloo, Kuala lumpur, Malaysia

    • @AnpuLondon
      @AnpuLondon  8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi Veloo, as far I am aware, Oyster offer discounts for groups of over 10 people. These are called Group Day Travelcards. But you wouldn't be able to use this because you are only a group of 7 unfortunately. The cheapest option depends on the duration of your trip. But definitely look into daily, weekly and monthly capping. Hope you have a great trip to London!

    Hi. You do know at the end of the video what you said is wrong. The oyster card would work out cheaper wouldn't it. Because with a daily cap of £4.50 x by 7 days would be a total of £31.50 You would spend on your oyster card if you travelled 7 days a week for 3 plus journeys a day

  • @surfistadebanheira
    @surfistadebanheira 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    What you just said is not life hacks, it's facilities tfl gives to all the costumers who's having a oyster card, it's just a matter of searching for all of that on the tfl website.

  • @JivanPal
    @JivanPal 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    In 2018, the best thing to do is just to use Contactless (i.e. a contactless debit/credit card), as this will always be the same price as with Oyster, or even cheaper since Contactless offers daily, weekly, and monthly caps, whereas Oyster only offers daily caps. The only situation where you should prefer using an Oyster card is if you are a member of another scheme that offers its discounts when linked to an Oyster card, such as if you have a National Rail "16-25 Railcard", as mentioned in this video; you can link the railcard to an Oyster card and reap its rewards on the Tube and London National Rail!

      I'm not a Londoner but if I was in London and use a contactless bank card on a bus or underground its £1.50? Or do I need to be registered first for that?

    • @JivanPal
      @JivanPal 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@dabro2080 , all explained in the original comment: prices with contactless are equal or cheaper than Oyster except in the specific circumstance mentioned.
      You don't need to register anything. The only benefit to registering your debit/credit card number at oyster.tfl.gov.uk is being able to see your journey history. With an Oyster card, registering gives you access to a few other features, such as auto top-up via a debit/credit card.
      The bus fare increased in 2021 from £1.50 to £1.55.

      @@dabro2080 , haha, no worries. You won't find bus maps that cover all the routes in a large region, but bus maps that cover routes in the local area are at most bus stops (the ones that have canopies and thus have a backboard to put a map on), and every bus stop has route summaries. The bus maps look like this: content.tfl.gov.uk/bus-route-maps/whitechapel-a4-0619.pdf
      All those maps are available online here: tfl.gov.uk/maps_/bus-spider-maps
      There is also a central London tourist's map here: content.tfl.gov.uk/bus-route-maps/key-bus-routes-in-central-london.pdf

    There is another great one. You can make as many bus journeys in an hour as you like and just pay for the first one. After an hour has gone by the next bus you tap onto will charge you a further £1.50 but you can start all over again and ride loads of buses in that 1 hour just for the first £1.50 of that hour.

  • @tonimarinova1306
    @tonimarinova1306 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    1. You did not mention that the 4.50 for buses is a cap you also did not mention about the bus hoper which is if you make multiple journeys whithin an hour using the bus you'll get charged for one bus journey only.
    2. The national railcard that you have gives 33% off on OFF PEAK fares in London on the tube , not the bus or the tram or whatever, the other discount applies for National Rail service journeys not TFL.
    3. Your OY does not give you negative credit all the time. That only happens if you get overcharged because you did not tap in or out. You can't do this just because you have an emergency. Your OY has to be topped up at all times.
    4. To avoid zone one, yes you tap on pink readers but that is not for every journey. Some journeys do have an alternative option but some don't . You did not provide any website to help people with the alternative journeys.
    5. Yes purchase annual card end of December, not begining of January because fares change every year on the 1st of January.
    6. The Daily cap is equal to a weeks Travelcard on OY and CPC so its's the same thing. CPC does have other benefits but only one of them is with regards to fares which you did not mention again. The weekly cap depends on the zones you travel within and it's the same for the daily cap. There is no SET weeekly cap for contactless or oyster. It all depends on the zones you are travelling within.
    From everything you've said, none of this is a lifehack it is the way the system works. All the correct details are provided on the tfl.gov.uk website and for further information I would recommend to people to contact TFL. I am not hating on you but what you have said is confusing for every person that is using TFL services.

    What a load of bs. If you decide to do a video at least make sure the information is correct. Also, save yourself recording and editing time by posting a link to the TFL website where the information is actually correct. A 'hack' is generally a loophole in the system as well... Trying to show people the general use of an Oyster card is far from a hack.

    As my homestay is in zone 4, and I have bought the card of zone 1-3.

    • @AnpuLondon
      @AnpuLondon  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah it's still possible to use your card! Even if you have just bought a 1-3. It will charge you extra for tapping out in a further zone.

    So is the £32 on contactless card for rail. So for example, I use the train to get to uni every weekday it costs me £12 for a return ticket. So £60 for a week but of I use the contactless then would it cost me £32 pounds instead.

    Also just to add if you get a second bus within 30mins of your first its free using your oyster card.
    Also if your unemployed or low income you can get a half price oyster so each journey is half price.

    • @BLaZiNgSPEED89
      @BLaZiNgSPEED89 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's actually within 1 hour free bus journey, not 30 minutes. The half price oyster will only apply for busses and trams but not underground train.

    So do you just physically attach the railcard and Oyster card or is it some like electronic ‘attachment’

    • @richild3967
      @richild3967 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nameless no you have to do it at a station

    • @JivanPal
      @JivanPal 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's electronic. You have to register the Railcard number against your Oyster card number at a station that supports this (any of the ones with a pink helpdesk, such as King's Cross). They will ask you to fill out a form with your info, and then link the Oyster card to the Railcard.

    Hi Anpu, this is really amazing and useful information! I am coming to London for 3 days in the last week of May and for 3 days again in the middle of June. I'm 24. Would you recommend I get the 16-25 railcard along with the Oyster or the contactless card? I am also planning to visit a few museums, London eye, and most of the other historic sites. What pass would you suggest I take in that case?
