History of the Bay Episode 70: Band$ From Tha Rose is a rapper from Santa Rosa who has been on a consistent run over the last few years. Inspired by his city's other local talents like Ray Luv, Band$ started taking rap seriously after a stint in prison. Since then, he's collaborated with Rydah J. Klyde, Goldtoes, CML Lavish D, and many others. As a Latino from Northern California, he's represented for his section, which led to a rap beef with LA rapper Lefty Gunplay. In this episode, we discuss NorCal-SoCal politics, the crossover between Black and Latino culture, and how Latino rappers from NorCal can get the exposure they deserve.

I grew up using the n word but try and say it less now that im older. I think once I truly understood what the meaning behind the word meant and how truly ugly and evil the root really was I couldn't use it in a regular conversation anymore. Yes I knew the history of the word and the origin but knowing and understanding are different. It still will come out especially if I'm with people I grew up with but 99% of the time I will substitute it for a different word. That's just me tho. here's my take on the n-word... if black folks lay the claim to being the most copied, duplicated and imitated group of people in the world, the n-word is something you're going to have to eat up. that word was probably not something you wanted to put out there. and with that being said, the disdain behind that word surely gets aimed in the wrong direction... i'm amazed that dr. dre had to apologize like 3 different times for beating up dee barnes, but never once had to apologize for calling his group NWA, which is essentially the pop culture origin point to the widespread use of the n-word.
