  • If you're looking for a video of how a Shiftpod gets erected watch this! It wasn't exactly what I'd call easy but I did get it done! This is the Shiftpod III model new this year. There was no manual or any instructions, but it's not all that hard to figure out. It's very similar to the Shiftpod II, but I don't know the differences. This does not include zippering in the floor. Even though those orange pull handles broke off (two of them!) it wasn't a big deal, just really discouraging, especially how easily they both came off. Otherwise eveything else seems very high quality & durable. Some gusty winds picked up & almost picked up the pod! So I think I will stake down one side as I'm setting it up if I'm in high winds when I'm first setting it up. Of course I will stake it down THOROUGHLY where I'm going. #infinityacres #shiftpod #walsinghampark #saturday #

Headline news: Woman suffocated while trying to open her ShiftPod tent!!

I am small in a wheelchair. Two tips I discovered. Stake it down first. Climb in and pop out the sides from inside, so you’re pushing out word instead of pulling. And then pop up the ceiling last. Or I suppose you could do the ceiling first, however, I did it last. But the real key was staking it down first. And it was a whole lot easier to push against the joints on the inside to pop them out.

IMPRESSIVE!! How do you get in and out of the tent while in a wheelchair? I am fairly crippled myself, but still have use of my legs and am ambulatory, and I was in a wheelchair for a year. Seems I am always tripping over the doorway going in and out of the shelter?

Wow! Great video!! Nice job on the set up! FYI... We know the pulls suck! Embarrassing really. We are making replacements with a new supplier for ALL of the first units and will be in touch with everyone about that. The new pulls are randomly tested for 65 pound weights for 24 hours. Always one detail or another and always room to improve! Thank you for being part of the SHIFTPOD Fam!

Mine arrived yesterday. How do I tell if I have one of the 'first units' without having an orange pull handle break?

Still haven't heard about the replacement on those after 2yrs of owning one. I have only 2 left of those orange handles now.
      What a shame.

It's good to see that it is not quite as easy to set up as advertised. Sure, practice makes perfect, but not as simple as advertised. I do like most things about this tent, but it's good to see the negatives as well.

Yes, to get the tent popped up and looking like a shelter, is pretty fast, but DO NOT consider the tent "set up" at that point. That is entirely marketing, and one would have to be a fool to consider it "set up". At a bare minimum you still need to stake it down, especially in a windy environment, or risk chasing your expensive tent down. In my book this tent is NOT setup until the stakes are put in, both at the cornersof the tent, and the guy lines. Then the floor needs to be zipped in, and the blast sheild deployed. That will take another 15-30 minutes, depending on the person.

hilarious that two handles broke as you filmed it. Just set mine ups for the first time then faced gale-force winds, but well below what shiftpod says it can handle and broke 4 spars and a handle too. hope you've been enjoying it! Such a realistic video, very much like my own experience lol

Set mine sp3 mini today and pulled off 3 of 4 handles. The handles suck. Sent an assessment to shiftpod and hope they respond. I heard customer service is real good. I now have a space age shiny tarp for 700 bucks. Very disappointed.

    Great job!!!
Glad you didn't break any struts! They say to push out with a flat hand and to put pressure on only one side of the hub at a time or a strut can break.

This was great. Every video I see, it seems so simple. I have a few questions?
1: am I correct in hearing that was your first time?
2: how is the build quality? Did the orange pullies fit back on? Or were the permanently broken.
3: how easy was the floor to zip in. And once it’s ripped in, can you leave it zipped in and still fold the tent up and for it in the bag ?
.. have to be honest. The clips/pullies breaking doesn’t leave me filled with confidence.
Oh. Lastly. How is it in the heat? Cool? Unbearable?
    Thanks so much. ✌🏻

Thanks for the video. Does the ShiftPod III does include the zippered in floor....right ?....you just didn't show that part in the video.

Yes it does, at least mine did. It will take a couple of minutes to get it oriented and zipped in properly.

Well, I was shopping for tents. I was willing to spend some money on a good one. This looks like a lot of hassle, guess I move on from Shiftpod...

Depends on the camping style and habits. Are you the type that likes to go to a location for three or four days and then move on? Great tent! Maybe you are the type that moves to a new spot every day, or pack in to a secluded spot, and maximize your sight seeing adventures. In that case the tent sucks.
This is a tent that should be considered, IMO, to be a 3.5 season tent, and can be fairly easily adapted to be a full 4 season tent with a diesel or propex heater. As for the "hassle", it gets much easier after the first setup.

Wow. Good work, that does take strength..but you did have the strength, Too bad on those orange pulls, do they clip back on? I’m impressed!

The orange pulls aren't all that important. Where they attach is an anchor of sorts, that can be used with my own Paracord & pull tab. No biggies! Was just a bad first impression!
