I swept thru Newsboys' entire discography about 5+ years ago and this song stuck out as a really good early song (and "All I Can See"). It's really cool being able to see how they were like back then too!
I worked as a dj at a local skating rink when I was 16 I remember we hosted a small concert and it was Newsboys before they became big. It was this album when it came out was such an awesome experience when I was a kid. Many moons ago.
I loved this song since I first heard it! Still bump it! Sings to my soul!😍 John James come back tho!! I love his voice! And his dance moves! Can't get enough!😋
@@chasematthew80 He was actually let go by the band because of alcohol, drugs and the fact that he was losing his marriage. They felt he needed to seek Godly counsel. Thankfully JESUS CHRIST was so good that James has been restored and is a Missionary to the United States of America. Father GOD we ask that YOU continue to bless his ministry.
I forgot about this era from the newsboys. In this era Peter Furler rapped for the first time along with playing drums Talk about talent. John James high pitched vocals. And the rest of members arrangements were definetly underrated. It wasn’t til 1992 (a year later.) when not ashamed when newsboys got Duncan Phillips playing keyboard and the rest of band members would be a year later. For me, 1990 and 1991 was newsboys at their underrated peak
Definetly newsboys are one of my favorite Christian bands. And loved peter furlers songwriting style. So distinct. Humorous at times . Yet always deep and spiritually thoughtful intact with God being the center.
Thank you for, Sharing:) my cousin's & Friend where into this group they had long instrumental on record Great memories of going to lake yale Christian summer camp in Orlando 1991
It really is because when he left the Newsboys in 1997, it was because he was battling a severe heroin addiction, and didn't want the band's fans to think he was living a lie. It nearly ruined his marriage too. Fortunately, he has since kicked the addiction, and his marriage has been restored.
That is definitely younger versions of Peter Furler and Jon James, Furler being the only founding member left. I have loved and followed the Newsboys since the 1992 Not Ashamed album. Even got to see them live with Jon James at Knottts Berry Farm, 94 and 95 I think. I had never heard their first 3 until recently. But I always wondered something- the keyboard player in the video, I am guessing, is Sean Taylor who played and got credits on the Not Ashamed album. My question is this- (does anybody know?) Is Sean Taylor related to Steve Taylor? Steve Taylor is also credited, I think producer, of the Not Ashamed album, Newsboys was pretty much obscure until Steve Taylor came into the picture. Was Sean related to Steve???? Does.anybody.know?
The keyboard player was Corey Pryor. Sean Taylor (from the Sunshine Coast, Queensland) was no relation to Steve Taylor (from California). Vernon Bishop on guitar.
Just down the street from my kids’ place... I saw Johnny Winter, the SexPistols, Ozark Mountain Daredevils play there some 40 years ago (Robert Plant a couple years ago.. and Furler in 2014)
Ok so John James is obviously the frontman here. Though this continued from Not Ashamed to TMTYL, Peter Furler sang on the majority of the songs on the records. BUT... here, on the verses and parts of the chorus, the voice distinctly sounds like some sort of blend between Furler and James, and I'm not talking about the rap part.... Anyone else here it or is it just me?
John was the main singer since the band's inception, Peter started lead singing a couple of songs per album. Particularly after Jeff and Duncan started on keys (after Corey left) Duncan could take over on drums to free Peter up to sing lead. It was all quite handy. But Peter did a lot of BV's particularly doubling John in choruses etc.
@@bassboysix yep, I think that was mainly a thing for live shows right? On the records, Pete sang the majority since not ashamed (he sang lead on exactly half of that, that increased, and by leader its his voice on all but 2 of the songs). They didn’t do the switcharoo live as much as its reflected on the record (ex. John still fully sang songs like Shine, Breakfast, Not Ashamed as the full frontman, even though those are peter led songs)
Manager: can you white boys dance? Group: no, we can master a repetitive side-step move over and over for three and half minutes...will that work? Manager: It's gonna have to. Okay, just go with it we'll fix it in post.
This one, Boys Will Be Boyz, just seemed a little too weird and immature a bit. Read All About It and Hell is for Wimps I liked though, even though it was vastly different than later albums. This to me, sounded like their very first album, which for most bands, isn’t the greatest.
I clicked on this b/c I was expecting to see the Newsboys not these guys! This is terrible! Tell me these guys are NOT my Newboys! That lead looks nothing like John James and that drummer looks nothing like Peter Fulter. These have to be fakes.
An absolute treasure. There’s more denim than actual instruments.
