This review will be handy for people. There are so many of these jump starters available now, you tend to take pot luck with your purchase.
Yeah hopefully, I agree the market seems to be flooded with them now.
I’m glad the Viking 2K performed so well, I recently got it for under $100!
Yeah that's what started this video topic, I bought one when they had that coupon for Viking.
As always, another great video! As a professional automotive technician on flat rate, my personal jump box at work is a NOCO GBX155! Time is money and I need that car started and in my bay as fast as possible! The NOCO GBX155 provides that every time! At home I have two Gooloo GP/GT4000 models. I tested all three on my carbon pile at the dealer, the two different Gooloo 4000 models and my NOCO GBX155, all of them maxed out the carbon pile we had, but the NOCO had higher voltage. Admittedly our carbon pile tops out at 650 amps, but regardless they were all awesome! The high performance, high compression, cars I work in pull 800+ amps when cranking, so I need every amp I can get! Can’t wait to see what you do next!!!!
Thanks, yeah I started with the low dollar ones because of the price and the limitations of this carbon pile.
I really need a forklift battery load tester, so I can pull the high amps, issue is they start at 6 and the one I need looks like it’s 14k… well out of my current budget. But that tester could be used on the other dynos.
@ 6k-14k? Dollars?! Oh heeeell no!!! At least not yet! I mean don’t get me wrong,I love your videos and always watch them but that’s crazy expensive! Surely a 1000 amp carbon pile is available for cheaper than that?! Maybe? Honestly I’ve never looked but I will now!
Thank you. You're the man.
Thanks, appreciate it!
Excellent video. I have the Gooloo 4000.
I have four of them LOL. They also make a great gift. It's case that stores everything makes it nice to throw in the trunk
Video suggestion: Amazon compact battery powered inflators.
Good idea, I will add that to the list!
Yes I want to see the fantik
I only use noco boost on my work vans they are super reliable and have never let me down, unlike other brands.
Always trusted noco it could preform in the middle of the pack but if its reliable proven and stable sitting in the car thats more important than a little performance that wont be noticeable on a Camry. Ive heard and seen too many people go to use there no name ones from costco or Az and its dead or malfunctioning. Rather not have to throw away money.
I really like your reviews. I understand that it would be expensive but it would be nice to see a review for capacitor based jump packs. Since the current drops extremely fast on those an oscilloscope would be nice for testing the amount of time for usable output.
Would love to see the avapow 6000 tested.
The AVAPOW 6000A and GOOLOO GP4000 are top performers under $150. Take a look at them on your next test. I'd like to see how they perform under your testing methods.
You should try one of those ultacapacitor jump starters. I have the LiOn style and the ultracapacitor style and I'd say the ultracap style wins for me. Charges very quickly from a partially dead battery then boosts it to start (which sounds like it wouldn't work but does) or alternatively charges from a different good 12v battery and then jumpstarts dead battery. Great video as always. Always wondered what your main job is?
Thanks for this info, I didn’t know capacitor jumpers were a thing outside of the dewalt and ryobi versions.
I work as a service specialist for Krone North America, with a focus on engine’s. Ranging from Mercedes OM460, 926, 444. CAT C13 C18. MTU 471 473, MAN 2868 2812, Liebherr 946 9508 9512.
So along with supporting the engines for North America I also do the dealer trainings.
Which makes doing videos a challenge because I can be gone multiple weeks at a time.
Great review, Thank you for sharing 💯
Have you considered testing these along with the ones that many pros use, like the Jump N Carry SLA jump starters? They can usually handle being left and cold weather for a long time, unlike the lithium ones.
I have the harbor freight cen techs with the lead acids in there. They also run an air compressor. Something about these lithium ones seem weird to me
The AVAPOW 6000A and GOOLOO GP4000 come in 1st over last couple of testing from Project Farm. I own both of these.
Good vid
Glad you enjoyed it!
Would like to see how the Topdon performs.
I'm biased, but making sure the jump pack is always charged has always been the downfall for me with jump packs. I picked up a super capacitor based one from OzCharge that charges up quickly from a nearly depleted vehicle battery and has enough to jump my last vehicle (08 Toyota Sequoia). I'm pretty sure I have the 50 amp one (but it has been a while since I used it...), It is a bit over the budget at $200 though. The ryobi one looks interesting as well.
I like the idea of those as well. But yeah, it's a little bit pricey. I just have a calendar reminder to charge my battery every two months.
Does the Viking 2k have a no voltage override? If not that is a bit of a deal breaker for me as anything I buy to stash in the car has to be easy enough for my wife to figure out 😅
As always another great video and thanks for reviewing the models not shown on Project Farm.
A different review the guy said he jumped a completely dead battery with the 2k, now was it 0 volts, I dunno. The recent sale of the goloo GT4000 for $110 would be the best deal I'd say with the override.
Great review. I've been using Gooloo jump starters for nearly a decade and haven't had issues jump-starting anything - starting from a gasoline 2 liter 4 cylinder boxer to a diesel 6 liter straight six. I'm kinda surprised to not find any Gooloo units here. Did they stop selling it in the US? I moved to Canada in 2022 and haven't been keeping track 😁
In GOOLOO I trust!!!
Its still common here, but the MSRP is $170 even thought its probably never sold for that.
i price tracked the gp4000 on Keepa and amazingly enough they actually do usually sell for $170 but it goes on sale frequently. It's price history graph is up and down like crazy lol
Destructive testing first…shouldn’t the most exciting stuff go at the end? Too bad there weren’t any sparks. :)
I’m planning on launching a channel by the end of the year and I will probably be doing a similar thing. In my case, some of the more common usage scenarios are higher risk / emit greater heat, so I will be filming the low risk stuff first. I’ve already had two of the devices I’ll be reviewing fail under normal usage. One had a quiet pop, and mild capacitor smell. The other emitted some strong magic smoke.
Is it too much to ask for devices to put out the promised output power? Without melting?
I *think* the only reason they don’t all have 1-2 star reviews is because people buy high power ones “just in case” but never actually use them at full power.
my nexpow didn't appreciate this video
Yeah I’m going to try another one.
I have the Dewalt. Agreed it's overpriced and somewhat underwhelming performance. It is however quite compact and the clamps appear to be above average. I impulse bought mine at 50% off, paired it with the matching Khanka case and gave it to my mother for her Honda.
It did start a 70's era v8 with an essentially a flat battery in cool weather, so it still useful.
Interestingly, the Canadian version has a larger 'safety module' like the Stanley in your video. I wonder if that allows higher current?
I think dewalt should drop Backus Global as a supplier as many of their products seem mediocre.
50% was a good deal, yeah thats interesting the version is Canada uses the Stanley cables. I did try it with the Stanley cables and it didn't seem to make a difference.
