Just a little reminder for you my beloved reactors, if you remember in Robin's back story, all the people in the ship from Ohara died because a vice admiral destroyed the ship saying that there could be an archeologist hidden and that was all for Justice; Sakazuki is the name of the vice admiral (in that moment) that destroyed the ship with the people from Ohara, and today we can see he is called Admiral Akainu Sakazuki n.n
As an Asian, I can relate Garp scene more, because fathers here don't really understand or used to showing love towards their children. Garp does love them but during their growth he never showed them his love properly, not because he didn't want to but because he doesn't understand it, until the kid's life actually on the edge, his emotion explodes.
One episode so many feels… Garp crying over Ace always makes me cry. Doflamingo with his speech is spitting facts and at the end the sunshine (Luffy) comes through ❤️
We were having such a wholesome moment with Garp and Ace. We even saw Garp crying for the first time only to see his shocked face a few moments later because of his other grandson's spectacular entrance 😅 maaaan. One Piece is so good at making you feel a roller coaster ride of emotions.
I don't know if you realized, but Akainu's name is Sakazuki. It's a name you already heard before, during Robin's flashback. He is the marine who decided to destroy the rescue ship that was full of civilians.
the thing about garp's situation is that he's basically like the "all might" of one piece. he's the hero garp. the symbol of justice and safety. people would live in fear if he sided with pirates. and pirates in this world are generally evil. not all of them are like the strawhats. regular people would never understand.
Tsuru's devil fruit power has the potential to be broken and world-changing, but it will likely never be more than a gag. The power is to turn anyone into laundry, which also washes away part of the evil in their hearts (not all, but some).
There are a few more pirates among the Impel Down prisoners who are scaled for this battle, they just aren't big name types. The Prisoners freed from levels 3-5 are probably close approximations for the average fighter in this war. The problem is optics. The big names in this war; the Warlords, Admirals, Vice-Admirals, Whitebeard and the Captains who serve under him, are just so much stronger then the "common fighters" and they are the ones the camera focuses on.
Doflamingo's speech is one of my favorite moments of this arc. I feel it just really personifies his whole character, you know? Dude's just reveling in all the surrounding chaos, like the psycho he is.... Anyway, I don't really have anything to add that hasn't already been said about Garp's inner struggle. We all knew he would be devastated by this whole situation. 😟 As for Akainu, his actions shouldn't come as a surprise when you remember what he pulled at Ohara. Doesn't help that we've seen other marines who follow his example, either (remember that one VA who shot one of his men for questioning his orders during the Enies Lobby Buster Call? Yeah.).....
" the sea is behind you and the enemy is in front of you, what Will you choose" this is basically what a war is, either you die a martyr or a coward, or you survive victorious
About Akainu, is not only the fact that he judjes action only in a scale of black or white, without a grey area, but he is also "Machiavellian" and "fanatic": Macchiavellian because for achieve his beliefs and his goals he would do any action, and even if a single action is cruel and he is aware of that, in his mind that is justified and in the end forgiven if the final result is achieved. And fanatic because he overjudjes and overpunishes any action that is not 100% in line of the way he acts and thinks. This combination, even for someone that want as final goal something good in theory (in his case, justice), will cause as much damage as an average (or even more than average) evil person.
Yeah, desertion of your post was something that got you killed by your superiors. That said, "dark justice" is something some of the marines lean towards. Garp cracking always gets me.
You're right about Ace first motivation for being a pirate. He wanted to become a greater pirate than Roger, creating his own identity and not living behind his father troublesome name. That's why before joining Whitebeard he was constantly searching for strong and famous opponents. These phychological aspect of Ace are well described in two novels that were published a couple of years ago.
I've never understood why people have such a hard time guessing doflamingos power. Maybe i saw another show as a kid with a similar ability because normally other people guess before me, but the moment he first ever used his power I immediately guessed it.
Garp is such a complex character and I love him. He is one of the best example of human heart at conflict and very complex emotional turmoil like early John snow. Why luffy ace and sabo wanted to become pirates its the romanticism and chase for freedom.
The discussion about chaotic good vs lawful good is interesting. I would say Akainu is more Lawful Good because he sees black and white whereas Ajokiji is more Chaotic Good since he sees things as grey. But I could see how some people would feel/think it was the other way.
I would put him more as a Lawful-Evil. His actions tend to adhere to the law of the land, while being wholly brutal and atypically heinous in the eyes of those around him. That would imply his character as a necessary evil for the sake of others to thrive, like dropping a nuke to end an otherwise long war and minimizing extra losses.
Poor Ace. He's getting executed because of his biological father (Roger), he has greatly disappointed the father who raised him as a child (Garp) and has put his current father (Whitebeard) in a life-and-death situation 😥
it's sad garp can't do nothing to ace cuz he chooses the path of villains even tho not all pirates are villains but being a pirate is considered a villain just like a gang irl
you guys totally forgot that ace set out to be the king of the pirates he told shanks that when he met him and that he was gonna beat whitebeard its after he joined whitebeard he changed his mind and wanted him to be king but he set out to be a pirate to be king in the first place
You know...that marine was ruuning away from battlefield. That is disobeying the order and Akainu said go back but he didn't listen, that is also disobeying the order. I'm not saying he deserves death or Akainu was right but that kind of thing actually happend in the real world in the past.
Aces reason to become a pirate is explained later Again to be a pirate in One Piece is to be free and live the way you want to Because that means going’s against the government oppressive rules you immediately become a criminal
If I remember correctly, many armies/navies/etc. reserve the right to kill their soldiers if they desert. So, what Akainu did is not a "crime " I think... I could be wrong.
Garp promised Roger he'd save his child who'd be killed for his father's crimes. But Ace made the choice to become a pirate on his own, to go against the navy and to break the laws of the world he lives in on his own. What is Garp supposed to do?
@@freenbeckyen6264 nah just never seen a grandpa considered the goat of their universe sit on their ass because they are afraid of an organization that employs slavery falling apart if he saves his grandson
Its not about evidence or evil. A deserter is extremely dangerous. Many deserters commit serious crimes during their escape. Most of the army around the world allows immediate execution of a deserter.
Garp’s loves them. :(

Garp's face when he saw Luffy 🤣

Another thing about garpe position in the navy is that there's so many people he protects. He wouldn't just be giving up his career.
Honestly if Ace asked Garp to save him, Garp probably gonna do that. But he know this is how Ace wanna life his lives so he respected it.
And Ace wouldn't want Garp to sacrifice himself for his mistakes.
Sengoku is not just anyone...

Totally agree👍 I would add, still to this day (in the anime that is) after almost 1100 episodes
I love Garp, so seeing him in this story brings tears to my eyes.
In old school wars, any runaways would be killed, one because it completely kills morale

yeah of course! XD

Right there Luffy is verely capable of fighting medium level marines like maybe viceadmirals, but the big fishes are totally out of his reach.
Marines are mostly Lawful Good, Lawful Neutral or Lawful Evil. Pirates meanwhile are Chaotic Good, Chaotic Neutral or Chaotic Evil.
Ace and luffy want to be a pirate just to live free, they want to be free and living as they want.
