I have always preferred the black dial personally and all the watches in my collection have darker dials as I can see the hands more clearly than that of a white dial.
I have a black dial 116520 from 2008. Wears very small for a 40mm. Wore mine only daily for a few months. Went back to my GMTII 16710 Coke for everyday wear. Only comes out for special occasions these days. Was on a list for three years. It’s really a super slick watch but the bezel is a micro scratch magnet.
Fantastic stuff, this 116520 is what started the craze. Back in the day you could pay rolex to change the dial to white for £500. Nostalgic stuff Charlie
The 4130 is an absolute masterpiece, seriously one of the great modern movements in all of watchmaking: a vertical clutch, column wheel *automatic* chronograph movement that fits into a 100m WR case that's barely over 12mm thick. Amazing. I inherited one of these from early in its production, and that small clasp has to be seen (and worn) to be believed. It blends in seamlessly with the bracelet, but still feels just as solid and secure as the larger clasps they went to later on.
I had one, agree with the comments re look and comfort - the only drawback being the fact that the dial, verses the white face, is practically unreadable for at least half the time. The hands just don't pop out and even if they did they're overpowered by the sundials.

This is the exact Daytona I have and this SS/SS Black Dial with Silver sub-circles I really enjoyed hearing your thoughts on wearing my favorite watch. This Black and White color combination really wears like a Submariner Date ( in my collection also) with everything and every occasion. It was discontinued I believe in 2016.
While white dials seem to be more fashionable and worth more than black, it is ultimately a matter of personal taste. I prefer the black dial on the classic s/steel Daytona and the 42mm Explorer II. However, on the ceramic bezel Daytona I think the white dial provides a nice contrast with the black bezel, while the black dial is a bit too much of one colour.
I’m definitely the Panda person you described. It’s a journey goal for me. Hopefully in the next 7-8 years I’ll have one. I know my AD personally so luckily it’s not an impossibility for me

Prices seem to be steadying now with 2015 models around the £17/18k mark for good condition full set, mint anything up to £25k, but factor in a service at that age another £700ish. this is my first Rolex (61) and I can see why people love them. Great watch for collectability you nailed that description- but it’s too small for me to wear because I have 7.5-7.6 inch wrists and I can barely pull off a 40mm.. but as we all know that old school Daytona case is smaller than 40 But I’ll say this, it actually looked great on you - didn’t look too small for you!
If you don’t appreciate this watch and don’t want to wear it you’re not a real watch lover. Real collectors and lovers will wear a 34, 36 without any issue. Too many hype beasts only want a Rolex with a dumb nickname. There is nearly 100 years of Rolex history to explore, many great watches out there. Luxury Watch Company caters to the Johnny come lately buyer. Disappointed they don’t stock anything older than a few years old. If you’re true Watch lover and not just a flipper, then you would try and educate your audience on some of the real classics from the 70s or 80s. The Edinburgh Watch company does it well.

So would you agree with me that a fully stickered Rolex can only have an origin back to a Rolex employee making a quick flip? My experience of AD purchases is that they never give out a fully stickered watch to a buyer. Agree? Keep it up bro!

Seems a little bit expensive for a 2006 model, you’ve also got to bear in mind that the CPO doesn’t come with the original paperwork, which also affects the value 🙌🏻
