THIS VIDEO WAS RECORDED ON 5TH MAY 2023 AND SHOWS DEMOLITION WORK IN PROGRESS AT SILVERTHORNE LANE. ANOTHER GREAT CHUNK OF BRISTOL'S INDUSTRIAL PAST GONE FOREVER.
3:12 Went past this spot a few weeks ago and the smell of creosote tar is overpowering. A lot of it must have leached into the ground from the former wood yard. At least a few of the older buildings are being re-used, so not all is lost.
I’ve stopped the video to nip onto Google Maps. If you look at Silverthorne Lane…about “No 4”. Directly opposite the very impressive old building is a set of barrier railings…when I was little, about 9 or so, you could go through and clamber up the steps to the top. It’s where my Dad’s old wooden cabin was. Where the guys would have their breaks. I don’t know if I told you Dave, but my dad would take us for rides on the goods trains. Sat with the train driver, pull the cable , magical train whistle would ensue. 🤓🏴🇬🇧
Hello, yes you can still see the steps. A bit overgrown now. I remember watching the shunting engine going backwards and forwards in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Regards Dave.
Great video dave .It would be nice to get under the packhorse pub cellar with that hidden street down their
Unfortunately no one is aloud under there anymore. Regards Dave.
Thank you for all your hard work you are doing
Much appreciated. Regards Dave.
Thank you for documenting this Dave , as sad as it is.
As you say it is very sad. My grandfather worked his all life at John Lysaght's Silverthorne Lane Works. Regards Dave.

I’m afraid it’s happening everywhere. Replacing everything with high rise students accommodation and apartments to live in.
Hello Nicholas. The whole of St Philip's Marsh will be redeveloped in the next ten or twenty years. Regards Dave.
That's a shame to see this disappear. Always felt like it gave the River Avon road character.
Trouble is these days anything with a waterfront means money. I can see flats and balconies coming. Regards Dave.
Terribly sad
Hello Brenda. Yes certainly is. Regards Dave.
