    I figured the gmt hand would be set to London time no matter where you are, and then rotate the bezel depending on where you traveled to (or the time zone you were interested in knowing what local time was)

    Edit: see the comment below, he got it right.
    This isn’t right: Thanks a lot for clarifying this somewhat complicated yet beautiful piece. There’s a lot of good discussion here regarding this fascinating watch. However, I think some are making it more difficult than it actually is. You don’t have to go through that whole rigmarole he described above every time the time zone changes. You only have to do all that’s described here to initially set it up. If I were using this watch, which I plan to do when I get it, I would set the regular time and the external bezel to my home time here in Denver Colorado, the internal 24hr scale to the time at my destination, based on the GMT hand. Then, I would change the external bezel, which is the easiest to change, to whatever my current time zone was as I travel. If I’m going east, I change the outer bezel one hour counter-clockwise for each change in time zone. Conversely, if I’m going west, I rotate the bezel one hour clockwise for each time zone I cross. I do have to remember that as I travel, the local time will be shown on the GMT hand against the external bezel. Quick and easy to change time zones this way, even in the cockpit of a plane!

      @zombiewoof16 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, you don't even have to go though all of that when you initially set it. Just set the time as you normally would and then set the GMT hand to whatever time zone you like. It is not rocket science. I own and use this watch and it is really simple. I can't imagine why you would need to 1) set everything to 12:00, 2) set the time time zone differential ,and then 3) advance everything together to the correct time. Am I missing something?

    • @zombiewoof16
      @zombiewoof16 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I just realized that the assumption inherent in doing it the way it is shown here is that all you know when setting the watch is that the second time zone you want to keep track of is plus or minus x hours from the time zone you are in. But since you have probably passed 1st grade math, you can easily calculate in your head what time it is in the other time zone and set the GMT hand accordingly. In fact, you could do that math pretty quickly any time you wanted to know what time it is in the other time zone - the whole purpose of this handy complication in the watch is that you only have to do it one time, during the initial setting of the times.

    I was looking to purchase this watch for travelling, but don't like how the GMT works. I would like to be able to adjust the hour hand alone when I land at a different time zone, everything else (GMT hand, minute and second hands) stay the same. Is there such a watch?

    What is the point of the tail end on the broad arrow head? Since it revolves on a 12 hour basis that means that it doesn’t correspond with the 24 hour markers, therefore it would not be displaying the correct translation of the hour. Am I missing something or what?
    Scenario: if the time is 11 pm the broad arrowhead would be on the 22 of the 24 hour markers, translating it to it being 10 pm, which wouldn’t be true. I am confused.

    I must say I really enjoy watches with GMT functions, I actually own 3 watches with this feature, 2 work the same( 2016 Rolex Batman & 2020 Tudor BB GMT) and the third (2020 Mido Ocean star GMT Blue) is different because it only gives 2 time zones. I have been looking at a Glycine watch for years looking to buy one for a great travel beater watch (Glycine Airman GMT 42mm ,for travel places you can't wear your pride and joy, Yes my opinion), going to get a used one this time, but I am going to be honest, you confused me when you set the Melbourne time. Why wasn't the home time for current location , hour hand set at the #3 on the watch? I have never used a watch with a 24 hr dial, so I would assume since the movement runs slower on the hour hand to cover the full 24hr dial, it should of been set at the #3 going to #4 as time advances, instead it looks like you set it at the 3 o'clock position area like on a regular watch. I guess I am missing something, please explain if you have the time, Thank you for your video. I do appreciate your help in educating me on the use of a future watch.

    I think there's something wrong with my GL0142. It doesn't have extra GMT hands, just hour,minute and seconds. However, after 2 hours, the hour hand is an hour behind. I thought I was crazy, so I set it again to the correct 12 hour time (based on position as the dial is in 2,4,6,8, etc) and sure enough, after a couple hours, the minutes hand is correct but the hour hand is an hour behind. So, if real time went from 3:00 to 5:00, my watch hour hand is in the 4:00 position. :(

    • @tottenhamnole

      It sounds like you have the "Purist" model, which treats all of the hands on the 24-hour scale, whereas this one that he shows runs the GMT hand on the 24 hour scale, but the hour and minute hands operate on a standard 12-hour scale.

    • @TwentyTwoTen
      @TwentyTwoTen  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Oscar Pyda - no, the GMT hand uses the numerals on the dial for "Timezone 2" and the numerals on the bezel for "Timezone 3". (i.e. The GMT hand only rotates once per 24hours)
      If you're looking for a model where the primary time rotates once per 24hrs, check out the "Purist" models! 👍🏻

For 15k you can get 2 watches Cuban link bracelet and chain and extreme diamond ring all of high quality. 1 plain ass Rolex for that price does nothing for me lol. I disagree. I was a navigator on USAF heavy transports (C-5 & C-141) when I needed an accurate timepiece for celestial navigation observations. In a darkened cockpit my Airman was indispensable and very easy to read. On night low level missions, it proved its value for waypoint timing to the drop zone.
