As someone who grew up on radio rap, I was picky and only liked some Wayne mixtapes stuff ye and ti songs, I gave up on rap and never got introduced to old classic rap like tribe and biggie. But one day I discovered underachievers and then fbz and Joey badass/pro era/beast cost. That opened the hip hop flood gates for me. I never would've discovered people like doom and dilla and madlib without these young new York kids just killing it. I love Joey for helping mold my music taste, 1999 changed my life. Hip hop knocked on my door and said "can I kick it?" And I said "yes you can!"
He should try tbh. I noticed throughout the beef that lot of New York rappers (like Fat Joe, Cam, Mase, etc) and rap fans are whatever about Kendrick and I don’t wanna think it’s cause of that old ass line from Control about him being the king of New York. I’d love to see it though.
On some realshit tho, theres a whole gang of rappers that are keeping this culture alive for example someone like mach hommy will tear your favourite rappers head off lol, the underground is where its at. Y’all throwing around this king of ny shit based off clout smh. Billboards dont make you a king. Saying rap is dead is crazy
Hov or Nas are the only ones that can claim the crown of New York. There is level you need to reach to be able to call yourself King. Nas/Hov are that benchmark.
