    Why do people care if the dashboard is made of hard or soft touch plastic? I never touch the dash when I'm driving or sitting in the passenger seat, and neither do my friends or family.

      WuWei Xu To them, it gives off a cheap eminence. To me and you, its frugal and practical. You get what you're paying for. If you want standardized soft-touch surfaces and leather accents, you need to reevaluate your choices, and price point. In my opinion, its stupid nitpicking and is only a valid complaint in premium $35,000+ vehicles.

    Had this as a rental, and surprisingly, it was VERY nice. Didn't feel underpowered, very responsive. Lots of features for a small 4 door, especially the driving modes. Another thing that was crazy was the amount of space the driver has without even squishing the rear passengers. The leg bay where the pedals are is huge. Smart

    I have a 2014 SE with the 6 speed manual, while the clutch takes some getting used to, this car has proven to be my favorite of any I've owned. I'm averaging about 35 mpg, and living in Dallas, I log a lot of city miles. It rides smooth and handles very well. I don't understand the complaints a lot of people have with this car.
    Simply put, it just does what I need it to.

If you want something cheap and nice, for example, touch screen radio, heated seats, cruise control etc, then go for it, if you commute far this car is perfect, i drive a v8 truck and i get no mileage so i try to use her car as much as I can lmao

    I bought a '14 Elantra Limited in Blue recently...I love it, it fits my needs perfectly. Getting around economically with some style. :D I think the Elantra is one of the best looking in its class IMO. I like the Elantra because it's small on the outside, but really roomy on the inside. Great for lugging friends around. I've been averaging about 30-31 around town so I don't know how some other people were getting really bad mileage?

  • @guyportmonteau5021
    @guyportmonteau5021 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    There's lots of variety in the compact class. For an overall daily driver, the Elantra is still a very good car: Warranty, economy, interior size, quality, all of the valuable metrics and it's not gas directed injected in the 1.8L, which could possibly in the long-term it might outlast GDI engines. I've driven the 1.8L automatic and the 2.0 Sport with a manual. Both are fairly comfortable. The 2017 model year is coming out next summer and I'm interested in the next wave Hyundai is going to be on. The reliability beats all Japanese cars for those who wonder about that. For 2015 Hyundai is placed as the highest quality even for a non-premium brand, right behind Porsche. That's the direction the company is headed and that's what to look for, an outstanding product line.

    I drove a 2013 Elantra GLS as a rental, and actually didn't mind this car. Got decent gas mileage (high 20's in the hills of West Virginia with 3 people and AC on the entire time, 37 on the highway), and my 6'2'' fit perfectly in the front and the back seats. I will say, I did experience the back end squirming around when hitting bumps (like many others have mentioned), but overall it was a decent vehicle for the money. I would definitely buy the Forte over the Elantra though, because of feature content and styling. Am interested highly in seeing what the next generation Elantra will bring us.

    I got this 2014 sport pzev and I love it! It looks gorgeous inside and out and I get from 0 to 60 so much faster than my SUV. I love the slight stiffness on the steering wheel esp on the turns and curves in the highway, not skittish like he said even on 70+ mph, maybe because since it is sport. My complain is just the road noise but I read that changing the stock tires should fix the issue, so am planning to change it in the next 2 mos or so. Overall, cool car!

    This car is good if you're on a tight budget. If you're looking for a cheap car with power, new technology and some good stuff; keep on dreaming. Elantra is offering you the basic, remember that these cars use to sucks big time few years ago. I honestly think the reviewer is kinda bias to Ford and Honda. Ford, Honda or Mazda 3 are quite good cars but let's be honest they're way overpriced and expensive, points he didn't mention. Also, try to see what warranty they provide.

    Update. Several years ago I replaced the factory tires with uplevel name brand touring tires and it completely changed the handling feel and made the ride a bit quieter. There is a curve I felt like the rear was sliding out when going the posted speed limit. With these new tires I can easily hold that curve at or above posted speed limit. The OEM tires are garbage and ruin the car.

    If You complain about the brakes in a 2014 Elantra, you’ve obviously never owned ANY Honda/Acura product. Honda brakes are horrible to say the least. They shimmy, squeal, and wear completely uneven. I’m not saying my 2014 Hyundai Elantra Limited has the best brakes on a car today, but I’ve done 60k miles on my original pads, front and rear, and they still haven’t hit the wear indicator. My 2006 Acura TSX’s inner pads would be worn down to the squeal indicator and the outer pad would still have more than 50% life left! I knew this was not because of the EBD system as Honda would always say. It’s because of faulty brake caliper slide pins that wouldn’t move the pad off from the rotor in certain conditions, thus resulting in uneven wear of the inner and outer pads. The only complaint I have with my Elantra is that if you don’t opt for the tech package, you get a key that looks like it’s from the 90’s. IMHO, all Limiteds should have the proximity key considering it’s the top of the line model. Even the Sport model comes standard with push button start/proximity key. Hyundai fixes that for the 2017 model redesign.

    This review is correct as far as I can tell. Almost all the things you mentioned that need a tweek got it in the 2015 model. I got the Limited which now comes with the 173hp engine. Great car, very nice power. I have also been loving the stereo. I would have considered the Mazda 3 more seriously if I could have gotten a fully loaded model at somewhere near the Elantras price but with Hyundai switching up the look for 2017 they dropped the price too much to say no too. I do have friends that bought recent 2015 or 2016 models of the Civic and corolla and been driven in them. I do not regret my decision one bit.

      Good to hear, I have a 2016 Hyundai Elantra, its a great car, I traded in a 2007 Mazda 3 4 door for the Elantra. I loved that Mazda 3, but the AC kept breaking down once the car hit about 80,000 miles, and got tired of throwing money at fixing the AC. While I will admit, obviously the Elantra is not as agile, and doesn't have the sporty ride of the Mazda 3, the Elantra has a quieter ride, and I am getting about 31 MPG's.

I haven't even started college yet (not until January 2016) so this will be fine for me. We put $5000 down already, and my note is only I believe $185 a month, which is wonderful for me.

Overall the car is great,. Personally I like Civics, but i'm sick of seeing so many Civics everyday, too mainstream, I dont see so many Elantras out there comparing to Toyotas and other cars, so this makes the car even better.

I won't bother looking at the Elantra now because I cannot stand that cheap car ride feel with the torsion beam rear suspension crashing over bumps. I like a nice smooth well-balanced ride like you get in the Mazda3 and the Jetta. IMHO those are the best driving compact cars. Thanks for the review!

    I’ve owned this vehicle for 5 years. It’s basic as hell, but has been really reliable; no major issues at all. The only complaints I have since owning the car are the left turn signal not working when the headlights are on; It works fine if they are off🙁. And it appears to have some kind of electrical issue, in general - one day I looked out the window and the headlights were on. I went to turn them off and they wouldn’t go off. I had to start the car and turn it off several times to get them to go off.
    After driving this for so many years, I’m now looking for a crossover/suv due to a need for more cabin space and wanting something updated, in general.
    This would make a great vehicle for a teenager or for someone okay with a super basic car.

    Thanks for the review. I'm in the market for a 2014 Elantra but can't decide on the trim. I really like the GT, but the Sport and Limited look good too. I've also checked the 2014 Kia Forte and the 2014 Kia Forte Five. I'm more of a commuter type and not so much a sport type of driver. I'm looking for reliability, comfort, safety, economy, a good warranty and cargo space. I currently drive a 2006 Scion XB. I have no complaints about my BOX, but it's time for a change and I really don't like the 2nd generation XBs. I think that by making them less boxy.... the car lost its charm. That's why I'm looking for an Elantra or a Forte. Which one of those you can recommend? Thanks a lot for the help and recommendations you can provide.

    Thank you for pointing out you rarely rest your arm or touch a soft top dashboard, but you touch sides and top of the door more often. I would much rather have better materials on the doors than on top of the dash.

    People keep bragging about the Hyundai/Kia warranty but it's just a powertrain warranty that ANY manufacturer can offer. How often have you heard of an engine, trans or driveline failing in these cars? Almost never. Also, I bet the dealership would give you hell if you had to make a claim under that warranty. They're going to want to see full service history receipts and will probably deny you a claim if you did not have the car serviced at the stealership alone for the 10 year period. Sorry, that's all Hyundai/Kia has going for them.

    Well my dad is looking at a Hyundai he is looking at the new 2015 Hyundai Geneis and i think you can only get those in AWD if you get the AWD it was have a heated wheel so heated back seats too. So i don't know why the RWD Models even on the V6 and the V8 you can't get heated wheel and heated back sits and you can all get them on the AWD V6. Also the other thing is you can't get AWD in the V8's one why is that? But i do love the new Hyundai Geneis me and my dad he went to test drive a RWD 3.8 V6 last Saturday at the dealer close to his office. But last night he went to the Hyundai dealer close to my house and he test drove a 3.8 V6 with AWD.

    Based on that camera bouncing around and the cabin noise and the MPG numbers, it's basically my Escort Wagon...except with payments. I'm averaging 30-32 in the ol' gal. Heck I even have independent rear suspension so I don't get squirrelly on the bumps.
    I LOVE watching car review videos to see what's out there, but dangit if they don't always reaffirm my decision to go old and DIY.

      Mazda 3 car of the year with the best engine. Hyundai elantra i have been hearing a lot of complaints. Would probably get a hyundai in the next 4 yrs or so when they all figured everything out to go toe to toe with the reliability that toyota, chevy, and honda have.

    • @slickflyguy
      @slickflyguy 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      milad dolat You can't really go wrong with a Mazda 3. I have had one for seven years and it is a great solid car with some spunk and good gas mileage. Suspensions are a bit firmer but just right for me. At 80K miles, I have replaced the breaks, tires, and shocks twice now. When I bought my 2006, the bumper to bumper warranty was 4/50, now its a generic 3/36 like everyone else. One other small complaint is that they do not use solar glass which can cause some serious eye strain when the sun is in your eyes. Another good thing is that Mazda's hold their value, where Hyundai's still tank soon after you drive it off the lot. Their extended warranties do nothing to help the value.

    Such a subjective review. I notice you didnt mention what cars you were referring to when you claimed other cars in this class are cheaper. Hyundai has always been a value leader when comparing features to cost. Not sure who you claim is better. I also wish people would stop treating the car like a sports car and down grade it because it more about luxury than the race track.

    I rented a Kia Forte couple of months ago, which is basically the same car underneath. And although the equipment was good, the car was so numb and vague i felt like i played a computer game. There is no feel at all, steering is unpredictable and doesnt inspire any confidence. The 6AT was the only thing i liked about it.
    For the reference, i drive euro focus second gen restyle.

  • @BlazinNSoul
    @BlazinNSoul 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    What do you think of the 2017 Elantra? It got a complete overhaul but I don't like some of the changes. They did something weird with the suspension. It rides really rough over just small bumps. Not to mention it shifts really high. It's also a bit underpowered from what I can tell. I like the new redesign. But I think I might wait for the Elantra sport. Before making any final decisions.

    • @buffalocrotch
      @buffalocrotch 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Consumer reports seems like they don't give the redesigned 2017 Elantra as high marks as this previous generation. I think the Kia Forte gets better ratings. Then again, I am not sure if you follow or care about consumer reports, sometimes I agree with them, and other times I think they are full of it.
