How does that side cover seal back up? Does it have an O-ring or did you use RTV or something? I’ve regeared a few Jeep axles. I learned you’re not supposed to drive the ring gear on with the bolts. You should start the bolts to keep the holes lined up but drive the gear on with a plastic mallet. Also, R&P sets typically come with red loctite and new bolts. So I think you aren’t supposed to reuse the bolts, maybe they are torqued to yield. And definitely want some loctite on them.
It does have an O-ring on the cover. I still haven’t put the diff into the car, but might not be a bad idea to throw some loctite on those bolts. Good tip!
@@mike_stanceco thanks for this video. My CTS diff is really hard to turn and it’s not LSD so I was going to open it up and have a look. Now I know what to expect when I open it up.
@@Airsoftdude3252 working on it now. Diff turns fine the brakes were just dragging. So I’m just going to change the fluid and replace that front bushing.
Great vid Mike, was nice to see how easy it is to swap the LSD unit into a non-LSD diff. How did the diff work out for you, did you get a chance to test it?
Hey did you use a puller to get the pinion flange? I was going to use one but it doesn't look like there is any feature on the pinion shaft to center the screw.
I had a new 3.91 SRX LSD installed before buying a V recently. It has 75W-90 with additive. I'm planning on doing a fluid change, would it be better to use 75W-140?
Thanks so much for the video man, in the middle of doing this myself. Also when you got the lsd it it’s actually pretty easy to replace the clutch packs if you ever need to, one of my spacers had broken and I broke the hole thing down. Did you end up buying a specialty pinion yoke tool to torque that pinion nut back down?
@@mike_stanceco well irs has Always proven to be weak. Even with an 88 set up so my thought is swapping to a solid rear end. You eliminate all of the weak points and you’ll have really even tire wear
Don't different gears have a different pinion, ?????
The ring and pinion are still paired together, just swapping the carrier for the CTS-V carrier

@@ryanhahn7251 Just purchased a CTS limited slip and it also has a ton of drag. Let me know what you find.

What came of the diff swap?
My bushing got delivered the other day for it. Going in soon - i’ll post a video.
Did you need to shim? @@mike_stanceco
They did come 3.23 with lsd but they are also rare I’ll be swapping my 3.4 lsd into a 3.23 for my V6 miata
Yep! The miata guys love those diffs 💪🏼
@@mike_stanceco no complaints here hold up to all my thrashing
how did you get the flange off the ctsv diff from to stop moving while taking the bolt off
I used the ugga dugga maker (impact gun)
does a CTS10900A-Alum fit on a v1 ?
I believe it should

Thanks! I haven't had a chance to get the diff in yet though.
@@mike_stancecoany update on how the diff worked?

I tapped with a hammer as I spun and it eventually slid off the splines.

It wouldn’t hurt. That extra viscosity can help under higher heat conditions.
can you weld a 2005 cts v differential ?
I believe the LSD can still be welded
Good video 👍! By the way...what's the spline count on the input flange and pinion ring 🤔?
Is it a 32 spline? Let me know! 👍👍

Is it bad that I am debating on putting a solid rear end in mine?
That would be aggressive! lol

I’m looking at a cts v1 and it has a Saturn sky redline diff are they any good for the v the car has a few mods also
They're basically the same diff, just an easy to acquire replacement. May have a different ratio than the stock 3.73
what diff fluid do you run? additives?
Red Line or Valvoline 75-140. Both are suitable for LSD diffs, so no additives needed.
Most likely it's gona whining and clunking as hell.. because backlash not set
