Reasons why you guys had some bad experiences there, this is from a Dominican man even though I’m using my wifes account 😂, for this comment, 1 jet blue it’s the worse to travel to DR white or not, 2 reasons why you felt people there were looking at you in a weir way, that’s pretty normal over there and a few reasons for that is you were at a fancy resort so they assume you guys were rich because as you said you guys were the only black people there it’s a little bit of ignorance of some of my Dominican people that only white people had money think of when you go to a fancy place here in the state how they tend to do almost the same to minorities, 3rd they heard you speaking inglish so they might try to help you some way to get tips $ but probably their inglish it’s not good enough to engage in a combersation with you guys but had no choice to act weir around you just like new immigrants do when we come to the USA for the first time we be stearin at people wondering about them, and next thing you know we get punch in the face for looking too long at a someone 😂.. 4 you guys can easily pass by being Dominicans which translates to rich for 1 reason only being brown in a fancy place ; again same game that is play here in America.. my advice next time go with a few Spanish words in you bocabulary and iníciate the conversation with the workers look at them and say hola and youll see the difference in the employees faces , in other words think of how immigrants act when they first came to America , that were you guys in the DR only difference you guys might had look rich and a bit arrogant Americans, happy you guys enjoy my island please go back with a few (hola and como está ) and will have a better experience, about their attitude keep in mind how we inmigrantes feel when we encounter Americans with bad actitud here in the USA, people in the DR have bad days people are tired and still has to work, just like here in the USA, you on vacation their not, yes you are paying but their are not your slaves😂 , so please don’t let 1 bad Dominican in a resort give you a bad vision of the entire DR even though you see them treating white people better according to you, keep a possitive attitude next time you travel DR , you guys are 2 beautiful girls and I’m not saying that because I’m Dominican and I want your American dollar neither, I just learned as a immigrant to acct according to the place I’m in at the moment if I’m with white people I will act a little more laid back if with black people more relax if with my Dominican people I act in between the 2 mentioned races 😂, overall glad you had a good time there and hopefully you go back soon, btw I was treated like crap at 1 fancy resort there too, I’m light skin Dominican spoke Spanish to them and all so race had not much to do with it’s about the individual on that day, again just like here in America. Sorry about the spelling and grammar I’m on a bus going to work to be able to save money and be just like you guys on vacation in the most beautiful island in the Caribbean while complaining, typical of rich Americans sooo freaking entitled 😂. That was a joke ok..

I was there a month ago traveling solo. I got stared at the entire time. The front desk person told me they were surprised to see an American Black woman traveling to a luxury resort alone. He asked me was I rich. I was at Excellence El Carmen in Punta Cana. Oddly enough I now know not to travel alone. Twice late at night two men came to my room trying to open my door (yes they were staff members). When I opened the door they said it was a mistake they were maintenance coming to fix my air. I air conditioner in my suite was fine. I was told it was assumed I was rich which made me a target for theft. This made me very uncomfortable. I did make a few acquaintances with some locals there that also advised me to be careful. I speak fluent Spanish and French; I still got the occasional stare from some staff members. I was very polite and kind to everyone I encountered. I tipped every person that helped me; well at that. I met another couple there and they too experienced the same thing. We were the only blacks on the resort until the day we left. I want to travel again solo soon, I am just concerned about my safety. I am thinking about going to Sanctuary. It seems more secluded and the beach looks like its private. I still worry about the staff, these days you cant trust anyone. I work hard, I would like to be able to travel solo and enjoy my time away from home.
