This song makes me melancholy, perhaps about the mistakes I have made. I think It's ok wondering about different choices not taken, that is what my life was like.
They were very few singer-songwriters close to being as prolific as GL, much less nearly as good. If you get into his catalog you'll find yourself falling into a black hole of amazing lyrics and stories. I remember hearing carefree highway on the radio when I was in junior high school. I saw him in concert at merriweather Post pavilion and the very early 1980s... And no there was no light show. A lot of Gordon's music and stories follow the theme of Love gone wrong, so it makes a lot of sense that after my break up with my children's mother I thought I'd like to learn how to play the guitar and bought the Gordon Lightfoot songbook. The only problem was I got lost in the lyrics of nearly a hundred of his songs and there was another songbook already out! That was in 2000! He hadn't stopped writing and I understand he has nearly that many more songs that he's written in the time since. I could probably just go on and on so I'll just give you one more song to think about of his... Song for winter's night.
Gordon Lightfoot is Canada's Bob Dylan. He has many hit songs and is one of the best song writers. He is still touring at age 83.
Listening to Gord is like comfort food for me
If you like Gordon Lightfoot, give "The Canadian Railroad Trilogy" a try.
This is my favorite Lightfoot song...A masterpiece...
Gordon is one of the best songwriters/performers ever. Just ask Bob Dylan.

I agree with the other commentator. Give Canadian Railroad Trilogy a try.
