What a complicated mess. Asked to login 14 times. Forced to change my password 4 times. Finally after subbing the monthly OneDrive cloud, it refuses to backup credentials and tells me to verify my identity yet again (15th time) but does not tell me how I am to do this. So incredibly sorry I tried to do anything with Microsoft. What a garbage can of needless complications.
Been using computers/windows for many years. I find this 365 stuff very confusing. It looks nothing like the old versions. I can't figure out how to delete files, click and drag a file to a new folder. I can't do really basic stuff. What am I missing? I have an old computer (5 years) but that shouldn't matter since all of this is on the cloud.
I agree with these comments on confusion. What I need is a description of what is actually happening to the files at the outset and this video did not do this. For instance the term download was used but to where? The term "in one drive" was used but what does this mean? To me it suggests ypu have to move folders in files into one drive just like you would to another physical drive. But then you talk about syncing existing folders. Definition please.
You are terrific at explaining things! Thank you for that. It is confusing, however, that you have to blur out so much of your personal files, etc. So that the novice learner can't tell what you're showing. May I suggest that you create a demo user account that doesn't have personal files so that you don't have to blur things out? I would also suggest that the demo account also have the Windows toolbar at the bottom. I understand why you have it on the left, but you lose many newbies with it there. Thanks!!
Excellent overview of OneDrive. I learned on DOS many years ago and have always found the concept of bloated interfaces (such as Norton Desktop) repugnant. Great to know that OneDrive is nothing like that and I am now comfortable moving forward with the seemingly robust features. Thank you!!
Thank you, Lea✨, for all these tips! However, what I struggle to understand is how to change the various synchronization /availability states of files or folders.
Thank you. Excellent tutorial! We have Microsoft Office 365 Family. I have one desktop computer sync all files and store locally. That way I can use a cloud backup service as a secondary backup location (IDrive errors out on OneDrive placeholders). My Surface and other devices are set to on-demand file storage, so it doesn't consume too much storage.
Couldn't add more to what the others already mentioned. Hope you could fix the issue, since it's always difficult to help remotely without further context.
Very helpful as a new user of OneDrive on my personal computer. I do not sync all files onto the OneDrive. Which is making it difficult to find documents that I saved on my computer only. I hope to find the solution as I watch your other videos.
You explain very nicely, but if I want to transfer all my work from Dropbox to OneDrive, will there be any problems directing me in transferring files or in the work environment? Will it work well for me as I used to work on Dropbox? Thank you.🙂
Great info, Lea. And very concise! I had to re-watch a couple segment because I was confused at first, but that's easy enough to do. One question: Does backing up the Public folder cause anything unusual to happen?
Great explanation. Thanks, for your efforts. Do you have a video you recommend for someone struggling with setup, with making sure folders are selected to sync? My coworker has files which are not syncing automatically, and I would like to help him simply, and get the most from his OneDrive.

I have a folder named DataA on my laptop with 475 GB of data consisting of folders and files. I want to move everything to DataB on the external hard disk. However, I should only see shortcuts in DataA for all folders, subfolders, files, and subfiles in the same hierarchy in DataB. Additionally, whenever I save any folder or file to DataA, it should upload to the external hard disk folder DataB automatically and save only a shortcut in DataA. Optionally, I should also be able to store specific files and folders (not shortcuts) in the folder DataA on my laptop. This software should be similar to OneDrive, but it should not use the cloud; instead, it should use my personal external hard disk, which is offline.

Hi Lea. I am unable to delete files on One Drive. I’ve watched 100 tutorials and something is going on that I cannot figure out. This is a work computer but these are my files. Lea looks like the interface has changed since this video. Can you help me? I'm trying to find the setting for folder Synch. Where is the sync desktop, video and picture folder options? Tx
Thank you for a great tutorial Lea! I have one Q... Me for example have 2 different accounts at Microsoft365 because I work for two companies. Is it possible to have two oneDrive accounts on the desktop of the laptop? Thank you!
Thank you, Lea! You explain things very clearly. I found this because I was looking for the most efficient way to move files to a new Surface Pro. I ended up watching 4 of your videos! This question may have an obvious answer, but when I reorganize my file and folder structure based on your other excellent video, will OneDrive automatically update to the revised folder structure as I work my way through the reorganization process?
Hi Robert, thank you so much for your support! Not sure what you mean by "OneDrive automatically update". If you are working in OneDrive in the browser that's for sure, because you are changing your OneDrive folder structure. If you are working in your file explorer, where you have synced and mirrored your OneDrive, then as well. However, if you are working on your local drive, for example, that is not synced with OneDrive, OneDrive will not update (only synced files and folders will do so). Hope this answers your question. All the best, Lea
@@LeaDavid Thanks, Lea. Your answer is very complete and accurate. When I asked the question, I was unfamiliar with OneDrive, and needed to work through the process to understand how it worked, so I could predict what it would do. The process of setting up OneDrive and designating the files and folders to sync actually clarified the synchronization mechanism for me. Thanks again for your great videos!
Lea, I got a new computer and need to save a shared file to access in file explorer, not the browser so I can save documents to it. You mentioned it on this video but didn't explain that part. Maybe you have another video that does? If so, can you send me the link or help me figure out how to. I am SO backed up on some work & working off my old laptop just to get some things done. Thank you!!
Hi, yes. That's the idea to have them backed up in the cloud to free up space locally. However, I would suggest to try it first with some picture copies to check if you have synced and set up everything correctly. Best, Lea
You make the process so simple, excellent teaching skills! Do you know if a Dropbox account can be added to one drive and have have Dropbox automatically populate a folder in 1Drive when something is added to it?
yes please! Permissions and having two one drive accounts accessible at once was at first creating a sync issue. Now we are having issues sharing some of our folders and we are trying to change permissions and access. But stuck.
Hi Lia, sorry to hear about your challenges. Hope I can address some of them in a future video. In the meantime maybe you can fix some by googling?! Best, Lea
Hi Kenneth, thanks! Once you have synced all your devices with the same windows account details, all documents should appear on all of your devices and you should be able to edit them. Best, Lea
Is there a way to link or sync a Shared One Drive folder (from a client) to a Teams folder so that particular Teams folder is updated automatically as a client adds docs to it? Do you have a video on that?

Hello Lea great introduction to One Drive. At the end (9:40) of the video, you tell us how to choose folders to sync with a computer. This option interests me! But I don't get the Account window with the Setting gear. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you and keep up the good work!
Hi Dominique, thanks! Even though I have never came across this problem, you might want to try the following: reboot your computer. Log in and out of OneDrive. Access OneDrive in the browser and change settings there if possible. Hope one of those options can help. All the best, Lea
One drive has just downloaded 28,000 files onto my phone making me buy more space so I don’t loose some important documents. I know there is a way to get those files into the cloud and off my phone but everything I have seen only tells me how to down load and I cannot find how to get them off. Do I need to do it on a laptop or can I do it on my phone? Thanks for the info.
Hi Lea. I hope you can help me. (File Explorer) In one drive icon there is this green circular thing attached to it. Sub of it is only showing 267-268-and 269 Now the problem is the files for 202, 203,204,205, and 206 Do youknow how to make those missing files show up?
Hi Lea, thank you so much for the video, please let e know what will happen if person from the company creates shared folder in one drive and the his accont will be blocked, persol left the company for example. Will the coomon folder stay?
Hi. Good question I am not entirely sure about. But I assume if the account will only be blocked and stay "alive", the folder will still be there. However, if the account/user will be deleted, all the information will be gone. In your case, I would check with your IT department.

Hi. I have a quick query. I uploaded a folder on my computer desktop onedrive with the option 'always keep on this device'. It is now available to access only on onedrive and is gone from the desktop. Is there a possibility that it stays on the desktop and gets synced to the cloud in background?
Hi, thanks for all the great tips. I have a specific problem im hoping you can help me with. i have lots of photos all in folders but only some of them have a thumbnail pic that is a mountain and sun. I cannot view these pictures but i can if i choose to download them. I have cleaned the thumbnail cache and tried a few other fixes but with no luck
Hi Kerwin, thanks for sharing. However, since this is quite a specific problem it's very hard for me to judge remotely. Sorry about that and all the best, Lea
Fine and good, but how to you segregate syncing? I have one MS account, but own two computers. I use them for very different tasks. I want to sync both to one drive for backup purposes only. The issue is if I have 8GB of data on one PC I use for CAD only, when I turn on my second PC that I use for gaming, ALL those files automatically start to show up and clutter that PC. Deleting them will have the terrible affect of deleting them from the PC I want them to be on! My only workaround "so far" - I haven't verified this yet was to turn off Onedrive syncing, maybe uninstalling from one PC. How can you segregate what gets synced to what?
Hi there! As I mention in the video, you can go to your OneDrive settings (on each device) and select or deselect the folders and files you would like to sync or not. Hope this helps, Lea
Little Info: If you sync the CAD files to OneDrive, it doesnt use any storage on your other computer, only if you double click the file to open it. You can check this in the File Properties. If the "Size on Disk" are 0 Bytes, then it is not on the local drive on the computer.
Hello. There are different folders that are important to me on different drives on my computer. For example, "My projects", "Software" and so on. I want to upload all these folders to OneDrive. I need this for backup. I also want all changes in these folders to be synchronized with OneDrive. How can I do it? I found the ability to synchronize “Pictures”, “Desktop”, “Documents” and several more “standard” folders. But I don’t see how I can add the folders I need to synchronization. This is quite easy to do with Google Drive. What about OneDrive?
Hi, I believe I have explained how to sync specific folders in the video. To chose the folders you want to sync you need to go via the OneDrive settings and then select the ones you want to sync or not. First, however, you need to move/copy the folders or files you want into your OneDrive space via the browser or the file explorer. Hope this helps, Lea
@@LeaDavid Thanks for the answer. "you need to move/copy the folders or files you want into your OneDrive space via the browser or the file explorer" - this option does not suit me. This is why I immediately wrote: “There are different folders that are important to me on different drives on my computer.”. I can't move or copy all the folders that are important to me to my OneDrive folder. When I right-click on any folder, I can add it to the Google Drive sync. What about OneDrive? Is there such a possibility?
Hello Lea, you are a P/C genius in my book. Please tell me how I can add a Title to my photos in One Drive ( I have an annual subscription to 365 ) so that when I put the location into the search box I find the photo really easily. Can you HELP ???, Thank you Manfred
Thanks for the video. I use one drive to back up all my photos and videos. However when I open up a picture folder, aside from the pictures showing, there are blank jpg files with an icon but says it cannot access the photo. Each file is 4K size and these may be duplicates. Also one drive won’t play any of the camera or iPhone videos I’ve uploaded. Says can’t access right now and to try again later.
Hi Dan, thanks for sharing. That's a good question I cannot answer remotely. Sounds very specific maybe to do with your internet connection or settings. Hope you can figure it out yourself or with the help of google. Best, Lea
I came across a very tiring problem with onedrive. I ran out of space on it and tried to un-sync my files, but when I do it, everything from my desktop disappears, besides icons and files that are not connected to OneDrive for some reason. I can't choose folders, they're unclickable for me. Also I downloaded my files to the pc and everything has the full green tick, but when I remove it from onedrive it still disappears from my computer. I have no idea what to do anymore. Nothing I find on the internet helps. It feels like 90% of my device files are in absolute connection with OneDrive.
I bought my windows 11 pc over a year ago and went thru all my settings and stopped notifications. Later I uninstalled OneDrive. Recently I am seeing a popup notification to back up my files. It is there when I get on my pc - not logging on with a password. The notification tells me to connect to the internet so my files can be backed up. And, mind you, this is months after I uninstalled OneDrive. Please help.
Still confused here. I can access one-drive by opening word/excell/etc but I can't find it in my file explorer. i tried to search one drive from my search bar but it just takes me to web pages about one drive. It doesn't seem to be installed as part of my 365 subscription. Please help.
Thanks for tutorial do you have one about searching for documents? Some of my files and can search inside for keywords and some are not found. Looking for tutorial on searches (for home use)
Thanks for the video, If my company is paying 6 MS 365 Business Standard, how could we make it possible to share a pool of documents in just OneDrive with access to all staff?
I am so confused about Onedrive - As an older person (81) I find it very hard to understand how it works and my head is spinning. When I take photos on my phone, I understand they will be shared to my tablet and desktop computers. After they have been shared, I then want to delete them from my phone, but if I do does that then delete from other appliances? This may seem like a simple question to you, but technology is not easy for someone my age, and I only need to keep photos on my main computer (i.e.desktop).
Hi Lea, wonder if you can help here... I am trying to transfer all my iphone photos to the computer. I have de-selected "Pictures" folder in "Setting/Manage Backup" prior to the photo transfer. However, when the photos are being transferred, they are automtically backed up/stored onto OneDrive. Where in the Setting that I change to prevent all my photos from going into OneDrive?
Hi Denis, it might be the case that you enabled backing photos/videos from devices. To disable it, go to your OneDrive settings via the small cloud icon in your taskbar, then to the gear on top right and to syncronizing. There you can disable to save all photos/videos from devices. Hope this helps, Lea

The process of setting up OneDrive and designating the files and folders to sync actually clarified the synchronization mechanism for me. Thanks again for your great videos!
Thanks Lea, very descriptive 👍
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you!!
Well done L.
Thank you so much!
great video.. Thank you. ONce i sync to ONe drive, can i delete my pictures for example on my PC and they will stay in the cloud with one drive ?
Thank you, Ed! That's a very specific question to which I do not have an answer unfortunately. Sorry!
Best, Lea
nice one Lea, however, I would like to know how I can edit my file from another device
Hi Kenneth, thanks! Once you have synced all your devices with the same windows account details, all documents should appear on all of your devices and you should be able to edit them. Best, Lea
Is it alright to disable onedrive from startup, and open it every now and then so it can upload my files?
Sure, shouldn't be a problem!
Is there a way to link or sync a Shared One Drive folder (from a client) to a Teams folder so that particular Teams folder is updated automatically as a client adds docs to it? Do you have a video on that?
Hi please could you put up a video to fix one drive sync issues?
Noted, Arjun :)
Hey Lea, I just watched your video and I must say that it was really informative and well-made. I loved your videos. I was wondering if I could help you edit your videos and also make highly engaging shorts for you?
Hi Muhammad, thanks for your feedback! However, currently I am not looking for a video editor. Thanks and kind regards, Lea
HI LEA PLEASE I NEED SOME OF YOUR VIDEOS ON ONEDRIVE
Haha, you can always watch them here on TH-cam
how to delete a single page off of a KDP template? It's the acknowledgements page. It's numbered as 1 but a couple pages later, my book starts and it also is numbered 1. Could confuse the readers. HELP!!!!!
Great video!!
You are welcome, Kenneth!
My suspicion is that when your one drive is company owned/ controlled you don’t get the gear icon@@LeaDavid
Thanks Lea!
You're so welcome!
Thanks, Lea.
You are welcome!
Hi Lea. I hope you can help me. (File Explorer) In one drive icon there is this green circular thing attached to it. Sub of it is only showing 267-268-and 269
Now the problem is the files for 202, 203,204,205, and 206
Do youknow how to make those missing files show up?
Hi Lea, thank you so much for the video, please let e know what will happen if person from the company creates shared folder in one drive and the his accont will be blocked, persol left the company for example. Will the coomon folder stay?
Hi. Good question I am not entirely sure about. But I assume if the account will only be blocked and stay "alive", the folder will still be there. However, if the account/user will be deleted, all the information will be gone. In your case, I would check with your IT department.
Lea so many thanks. I have in error purchased Microsoft 365 Web based. How can I identify office 365 non Web based with full functionality. Many thanks
Hi, sorry to hear that something is not working but I do not completely understand your question..
When I click on the OneDrive icon from my Windows Start button it take me directly to the file explorer. How do I get the actual app to appear?
Thank you Lea for you great advice and tips
You are welcome, Jayjay!
Thank you Look forward to more
Great video Lea!
Thank you, Marie!!
Hi. I have a quick query. I uploaded a folder on my computer desktop onedrive with the option 'always keep on this device'. It is now available to access only on onedrive and is gone from the desktop. Is there a possibility that it stays on the desktop and gets synced to the cloud in background?
I need help with synch issues. Do you have a video on this?
Not yet, sorry!
Why dont I have the menu at the top of my screen so I can view photos as list so I can transfer pics to my desktop?
How do I synch files from onedrive on my computer to onedrive online.
That's it. Please just tell me how to do that.
In file explorer, none of the OneDrive documents show the symbols. How do I get these to show
Hello Lea, you are a P/C genius in my book. Please tell me how I can add a Title to my photos in One Drive ( I have an annual subscription to 365 ) so that when I put the location into the search box I find the photo really easily. Can you HELP ???, Thank you Manfred
how to I add my full D Drive with my OneDrive Sync?
I would like to know if I can keep same files in both iCloud and Onedrive, and have them sync automatically?
I don't know because I am no iCloud user. But looking at it from outside, I would say why not?
is OneDrive compatible with Zoom presentations?
I bought my windows 11 pc over a year ago and went thru all my settings and stopped notifications. Later I uninstalled OneDrive. Recently I am seeing a popup notification to back up my files. It is there when I get on my pc - not logging on with a password. The notification tells me to connect to the internet so my files can be backed up. And, mind you, this is months after I uninstalled OneDrive. Please help.
I DON'T want One Drive on my local pc. How TF do I get rid of it..??
I feel ya! 😅
Maybe deleting or uninstalling it
You have to actually go into the settings and select "Unlink this PC"
Still confused here. I can access one-drive by opening word/excell/etc but I can't find it in my file explorer. i tried to search one drive from my search bar but it just takes me to web pages about one drive. It doesn't seem to be installed as part of my 365 subscription. Please help.
Thanks for tutorial do you have one about searching for documents? Some of my files and can search inside for keywords and some are not found. Looking for tutorial on searches (for home use)
Hi Tony, I do not yet have such a video you are looking for but I might consider it for the future. Best, Lea
Informative video. Thanks for the same
Thanks, Ravindra! Appreciate your feedback!
Thanks for the video, If my company is paying 6 MS 365 Business Standard, how could we make it possible to share a pool of documents in just OneDrive with access to all staff?
That's a very specific question for which you should probably rather address the MS support.
I have disabled the "Files will be deleted from all devices" notification and I dont know how to get it back.
I LOVE YOU GODDESS
Glad you liked the video!
I do not have the Save As option nor can I right-click and see delete. Do you know why?
Sorry to hear that, but unfortunately I cannot tell you what that's the case. It might have different reasons which are hard to judge remotely.
Im confused. I bought a 365 subscription but I only have web browser. None of the other stuff is on my computer.
