when your kids are older and going to college and someone ask them "have you ever been to another country?", they'll be like "just like a hundred" lol, awsome, love your videos
Helen ,GA with the German heritage is interesting to me. I was stationed in Germany for 6 years and I LOVED it. Ill put this on my research list for my up coming 'relocation'. Thanks
As an American Southerner, some of these places are quite familiar. I enjoyed Savannah, GA; the Blue Ridge Mts., where we lived; Memphis, for a short day trip; Roanoke, VA, where I lived--with the Blue Ridge Mts. surrounding; Richmond, VA, where I lived; Alabama, through which we traveled to Florida; Kitty Hawk, NC; Myrtle Beach, NC, which has Calabash's--tons of seafood! Overall, the South is polite and friendly, with some notable exceptions.
M Williams I lived there long, long ago. I appreciated the simplicity of the people, the friendliness, the mountains--and it used to have a moderate population. Having moved up here, I miss it. It is my favorite city in the US. Yes there are unsavory people, in my experience, but I find many people quite nice. Are you not from the area originally?
I've lived my whole life here. It's a neat city but I wouldn't say it's as nice as Charleston SC or places like that. I guess it is easy to take the mountains for granted though. Lots of nice scenery in Roanoke
M Willliams Agreed. I didn't necessarily mean for tourists. For me, at my age though, touring there seems like a nice idea. I'd imagine Charleston would be better for most tourists, because most seem to want to see architecture, eat certain foods, etc. I remember the Star on Mill Mountain. I lived SW, I think--I was a child growing up there until we moved to flat Indiana. Cold. It's nasty here now, but probably better than most winters here.
Virginia is where the mid atlantic and south meet, kentucky and west virginia are where the South and midwest meet and Texas and Oklahoma and arkansas are where the South and West meet.
Yeah, it was fine when i made the video, but now it is all messed up. i will take this down Friday & reupload it without the problems. I do apologize for that. the number 4 you miss is Natchez, Mississippi. Thanks for letting me know! Danke schoen! und die neue englisch videos kommen :)
If you want to do something fun, interesting, and at your own pace: Follow the battlefields in NC from Mill Creek to Aversboro to Bentonville up to the Bennett House in Durham, and watch history unfold in front of you as you road trip through the tumultuous final days of the Civil War. Just remember to check for closing times and that the museums/battlefield are closed on Sundays.
As someone who has lived in six Southeastern states and has lived here most of my life, I'll emphasize one important point: My list of places that I would recommend for a three-day tourist visit would be very different from my list of places to recommend for living during working years, retiring, or going away to college. For example Charleston SC is amazing to visit because it's a unique place and has a lot to see. I lived there for two years. It was OK, but I can think of ten places just in the Carolinas where I would rather live but that aren't as interesting for a vacation.
I know it sucks. but i cant get the stupid program to do it. I need a new laptop and video editing software. and this video is messed up from 3:30-3:50 so not good :( we are off filming lots of new videos right now so when we get back there will be real video software & overlays. Though I do agree, Florida, and Virginia can seem like its own thing, there are some other places I would add to the list that do count as Southern in my book if people want the full tour. Living most of my life in a suburb of San Diego (La Jolla), I can assure you that if you "informed" one of the inhabitants that they are living in a city numbered among the "Southern States", they would think you had been affected by the heat! Babaleen, we really do thank you for the inadvertent compliment, however.
@@clintpatty Texas is definitely not in the Southeast except for Texas A&M being in the SEC. Texas is in the Southwest. Texas is on the western frontier of the South. If you ask most people in Dallas or Fort Worth, they will say that they are Southerners. I have done so.

Going to Charleston in October(mother inlaw lives in Union, SC....yuck!)Maybe I'll go check out Savannah instead of Myrtle Beach since I've already been there a few times.
What is up with this leaving florida and Texas out of the picture? Just because northerners move down in herds that doesn't erase history and culture. Many of the small towns in both of these states are overwhelmingly southern.
I was born and raised in the south, and speaking as a southerner, no one really includes Texas and Florida as part of "the south." I know there are southern elements there, and maybe I would include the eastern third of Texas and the Florida panhandle, but no dice otherwise. Texas is more western and Florida is more beach/resorts...things that are not really part of southern culture. Those two states are really cultures of their own.
beaches and resorts is a new culture that was brought from the north. It isnt real florida i see what your saying though but more than half of floridas population wasnt even born there so its not surprising that many areas arent very southern anymore.

None compare to New Orleans. And Louisiana has the best food in this world. Not just in the south or in America. THE WORLD. Also, we were voted the happiest state in the country.
Louisiana is the happiest state in the country? That's odd I would have thought a state in the Midwest. Louisianians are miserable people and the education system there sucks!
The problem was that the governor of Louisiana dragged her feet -- the federal government can't step in until the governor takes certain steps, like declare a state of emergency. She was completely panic stricken and hesitated like a deer in head light. The mayor of New Orleans was completely incompetent but then again the whole town (and state) is historically dysfunctional and corrupt. I guess a nicer way to put it is that Louisiana politics can be colorful and entertaining (Gov. Eddie Edwards and Gov. Huey P. Long). Not to mention, the city is below sea level. Contrast that with the actions of the governors from Texas and Florida during this past year. I love New Orleans and Louisiana and I've worked there a lot (six months at a time sometimes). What is your experience in Louisiana Ray Turner? I lived in France for quite some time but I've never spent any time in the UK or more specifically England. I read news from the UK and had to study its history in school but I certainly wouldn't pontificate on events that happened there. It sounds like you have some sort of political axe to grind. My experience is that it's often that Europeans misunderstand the relationship between US States and US Federal Government. For example, each state has its own army (national guard) and the governor is the commander in chief. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Texas_Military_Forces.
I like to stay away from the larger cities, and tourist traps when on vacation. Helen Georgia is DEFINITELY worth the visit. Most folks only really know about the gold panning, and mineral grubbing, but there are countless things to do there. Gatlinburg Tennessee has always been an awesome place to hang out as well. Taking a drive on the blue ridge parkway is just as fun. There are museums, and attractions all over the place. Careful about getting a speeding ticket though....speeding on a federal parkway is a federal crime. Heck, if you have a few weeks, or months, taking a walk on the Appalachian trail is a blast as well. It gets you completely removed from civilization for a while, and gets you tuned back into nature and those things around you. There are plenty of B&B's along the way, so you don;t have to be completely out of society. On a side note....Atlanta, Georgia. If you're looking for some of the worst traffic in the world, this place is absolutely a must for you. Their bypass tends to serve more as an easier way for locals to get around town, than its intended purpose of bypassing the city. There aren't many ways around Atlanta unless you're on the I-95 corridor to the East. All roads to the West seem to take you directly to Atlanta. Terrible terrible drivers in that area. I have never driven through Atlanta and not had a complete traffic jam that lasted for hours...so load some snacks and soda's for your 2 hour 30 mile journey through/around Atlanta.
How can anyone speak of the South and leave out Virginia? There is more history per mile in Virginia than others. Richmond was the Capital of the Confederacy for goodness sake! Virginia is for ❤️❤️ after all. Just saying.

Ten Southern Foods/Drinks to try while you’re here
1) Fried Green Tomatoes (👌👌)
2) Shrimp n’ grits
3) BBQ (NC’s is the best btw)
4) Brunswick Stew (good asf)
5) Collard/Turnip greens
6) Biscuits n’ gravy
7) Fried Okra
8) Gumbo
9) Cheerwine (A NC regional soda)
10) Cornbread

Charleston SC, is by far the best city in the South.
And most expensive
Hootie and the Blow Fish at best over-rated, at worst suck. Charleston has far more sites than Savanah which is full of weirdos.
