Thank you for putting this info out there! So far this video has the most real/true/down to earth tips that are really important. I'm glad you're telling people to respect the locals and try to speak spanish with them. I've had great experiences having small conversations with spanish speakers even though I'm not fluent, I could see it really cheered them up to see me attempt to converse with them.
I appreciate this video! As a fellow Expat who lives on the other side of the highway near Selvanova I definitely agree with all the points you mentioned here! we've had no problems living with the locals.
Wow it's so shocking to hear that foreigners are not treating the locals well, though unfortunately I'm not that surprised. We are a guest in their country, treating them with respect is a must.
Great video and enjoyed the scenery! I plan on coming down there next month to visit the surrounding area. If I am not mistaken, a negative covid test is not currently required to enter Mexico. Is this correct? Secondly, knowing that one is required to enter modern day Babylon, does anyone know if there is a lab in the Guadalajara area where a less invasive covid test can be taken by providing your saliva in a cup? I don't trust anything being put in my nose or throat. I found one in Canada a few months ago after a trip up there. Thanks!
Thanks for watching! That’s correct, you don’t need a negative COVID test for Canada. I’m not sure about where you can find less invasive tests in GDL though but I’m sure a quick online search will pull something up.
I've heard stories of cops extorting tourists on false crimes, taking them to jail, then taking them to ATM machines. Or stories of strangers bumping into you at claiming you broke their phone, then having cops side with them. That stuff scares me. I can deal with shady people, but when it's cops that you need to fear? I just got here. Hoping nothing like that happens to me. I live in a local area around calle 100 ntc. Is it unsafe as a solo traveler to explore the downtown area at night? I'm thinking of just avoid night-time all together. Thank you so much for the tips, Great video :-) Subscribed. Also, what do you do when you're on the beaches and want to go in the water? With your phone and wallet.
Thanks for subscribing! Generally I wouldn’t say it’s unsafe to explore downtown. But if you’re going to be solo you will just have to be extra aware of your surroundings like anywhere in the world. Definitely don’t walk around too much after you leave a bar or club late at night because that makes you more of a target. Try to find a taxi right in front of the place you’re leaving. And if you go swimming at the beach solo, try buying those waterproof cases that you can put your cellphone and money in and then put around your neck when you go in the water. I’ve used them a couple of times and they work well. They are pretty easy to find in Playa. Vendors on 5th ave sell them or you can get one from Walmart.
It really depends on what you are looking for because they are both different inspire being close to each other. I personally preferred Playa Del Carmen.
This brand makes it and you can order from them. instagram.com/fit_licioso_playa?igshid=i3soysu1m2io I get it at the Green Deli in town which is not far from where I live.
Hey man, thanks for the great video! It's my first day in Playa and it definitely helped! (I know the video says "Watch BEFORE going to Playa, but hey - better late than never :D) I also made the experience that speaking at least a little bit of spanish goes a long way in my last week in Cancun! And people are actually pretty happy when you at least try. Stay save!
Your videos are so helpful! Where would you recommend for a first time visitor to stay in Playa Del Carmen, all inclusive accommodation? Keep up the good work!
Thank you! I have had friends who stayed in an all inclusive and they didn’t like it (bad food etc). So I recommend a regular hotel so that you can at least go out and try food outside of your hotel. Airbnb is another great option too.
Very informative bro why they are so much seaweeds? Only for short period of times or throughout the whole year? I’m coming there next month hope less or no seaweeds at all.
It’s pretty much the entire year. Some days are worse than others. You’ll pretty much have to come and pray for the best that there isn’t a lot when you come lol.
@@TapuwaWilliam Cool. Same here bro. Been to Colombia multiple times, Belize and Jamaica but not Mexico. Funny because I lived in Texas and have been to Laredo. Enjoys your travel bro. If I do visit and you are in the vicinity I will link up.
By doing research on places to stay and where to go or not go. I also make sure not to carry too much cash on me and any valuables and make sure I’m not alone at night in the streets especially after being out with friends. That said it’s still possible to take all precautions and still end up being in an unsafe situation but thankfully that hasn’t happened to me over my 3 years in Mexico. I’ve heard of women carrying pepper spray around with them so you might want to look into buying some when here.
For apartments, I have a video here with tips on how to find a place: th-cam.com/video/Cfowszp_RbI/w-d-xo.html Airbnb is also a good place to find accommodation.
There are no truer words spoken than treating the people with respect and dignity. Also trying your best speaking spanish. Even if you are not fluent at least trying gets you more respect than just a dumb American tourist. It goes a long ways! I love PDC and just got back from a week at Grand Velas……it was awesome!😎
Hi! When do you say wifi do you actually mean wi-fi, or do you mean cellular coverage? I would think anyone relying on internet access would want to buy a sim card rather than rely on wifi coverage.
Best place to stay for no scams anywhere is Hilton playa del Carmen and hotel xcaret. Now for transportation I’ve always rented at yes rent a car located Cancun. They pick you up and take you to the office for paperwork and to get the car. Super quick and no scams. I would avoid 5th ave a lot of scammers and don’t fall for a Mayan rock ring for 100 or more. They start off with 300 usually it’s a ring that changes color very fake. I’ve been here three times and every time I go to 5th ave it’s always a new scam stay safe.

Thanks for watching!
Going to be escaping Australia next year and PDC is high on the list!
You’ll love it!
I agree 100 % with everything that you said very good video
I really enjoyed your tips on this video. They are especially helpful since I'll be arriving in PDC in 12 days. Still working on my Spanish 🙂

Thank you for your videos. Did you upload a video about how to find an affordable place to rent in playa Del Carmen?
I sure did! th-cam.com/video/Cfowszp_RbI/w-d-xo.html
Great info, thanks so much. The barking dog issue has me wondering
Stayed in el toucan hotel in PDC....loved it
Thank you! I'm still debating on the "wheres" I'm glad you expanded past the tourists area- I'm trying to avoid

Treat them with respect lol 😆 goodluck most are wankers!
Come visit NYC, my "home town." and let me know if foreigners living here illegally treat you with respect? You're lucky they don't stab and rob you.
Good info! I just spent a week there and am now planning my move. The Pros seem to heavily outweigh the cons. 💯
Congrats! You’ll love it here.
Great info and advice!
Thank you!
I've been there a couple times on vacation and love it! Staying always crosses my mind. Who knows, maybe we'll bump into each other there someday. :)
You should definitely stay! Beats the Canadian winters. Might definitely see each other :)
Definitely need to connect with you I’ll be moving there in 2 weeks
I’m now based in Mexico City!
Thank you very different info that's important. Enjoy 😊

Great vid! Where is a good place to buy a cheap sim card down there and plan for a weeks usage? Any particular brands?
Telcel is the best! You’ll find Telcel shops all over town.

The WiFi coverage here is pretty good so you don’t need a SIM card to access internet for work.

Is it safe to ride around on scooter rentals? Heading there in a few weeks
Yes it definitely is! I ride my scooter all the time.
@@TapuwaWilliam much thnx! Positive vibes your way ✌
What is the venue at 9:39 to 10:10?
It’s the restaurant El Hongo.

Tipping ? How do we tip? Do we tip the taxi drivers?
Yes tipping culture is big here. You don’t have to tip taxi drivers but you can if you want.
Do you need a car?
Not really. You can get by walking or taking a taxi.
You’ve been “staying” in playa for 6 weeks. Not living. When you’ve been in a country for a year of have an official “resident” visa
I’ve actually been living in Mexico since July 2019. When I made this video I had just moved to Playa Del Carmen.
That's where "Tony's travels" youtube channel was robbed 5 times by the police while walking to his hotel room.
😮
