I am the honest vocal coach! I have been teaching for 15 years and been singing since I was 16. I teach from my own studio and also teach and mentor via email, and online via Live & Skype. I specialise in teaching children, and teenagers pop and musical theatre but I am trained in all genres of music. You answered your own question. If she never competed at AGT, you would probably never had ever heard her. She doesn't need to win, she does it to get a world podium. And I think she is succesfull in doing so.

she is quite a big star here in the Netherlands and has been for several years. She just never made it to the US. i can't understand it either! tho it's very difficult for dutch people to get there, it's a shame because we have more amazing singers here that really deserve it! very proud of Glennis anyways!

Glennis Grace is a great performer and she was asked by AGT to participate in the show after they saw the ‘Run to you” performance you reacted on.
Glennis Grace is a well know performer in the Netherlands, has her own records and her Whitney Houston shows in 2018 are sold out in notime.
I hope that she get more known abroad and the recognition she deserves.

Ik had nog nooit van haar gehoord tot ik een Run to you reaction video zag;-)
Veel Amerikanen denken dat ze een superster is in Nederland omdat ze in een volle Arena of Ziggo Dome zingt (zonder te weten dat ze deel uitmaakt van L.O.S. of een gast is bij de Toppers), maar pas nu ze succesvol met AGT heeft meegedaan zijn haar solo concerten in een mum uitverkocht.
De reden dat ze 25 jaar lang niet is doorgebroken is het feit dat Soul in Nederland gewoon geen populair genre is. Maar dat is gelukkig aan het veranderen!

The Netherlands are way to small for her, that is why she's on AGT Thank you for your reaction on this performance. This performance is what started it all. It went viral and got Miss Glennis on AGT, for which she was asked to perform. She is very down to earth btw.

Great reaction! She has been invited by Agt to audition. She needs this as she has been very unlucky with her management. All the big shows With her you see on TH-cam are all as part of a ladies of soul a succesful combination of famous Dutch singers (she is Not even the most famous of that group in NL) or as guest singer of a big concert of the “toppers” . Sad, unbelievable even But true.
Vincent Vulture Yes, Glennis had (has??) just unbelievable bad management in the Netherlands all those years! An extremely talented singer like Glennis should have had an international career for years ago. She was very undervalued in the Netherlands as well. It’s just sad what bad management can do to a singer’s career.
Glennis is only known in the Netherlands, 17 millions people ! She tryed to be famous in US but it's very hard and nothing came for her ... Then the producers of AGT asked her to join the contest (the video of Run to you made the buzz with another title), she wasn't sure to accept because it's hard to face judges when you have a 20 years career in your country ! Her son pushed her to try because it was a dream for her to be known in US and the world . Watch at her other videos and covers . She has her own songs in dutch ...

Thxs for reacting to my request :D Also she's on AGT because like you said you never heard of her before and that's mostly true for anyone outside of Holland. She's kinda famous in The Netherlands from my understanding and her biggest event is the "Ladies Of Soul" where she as well as the other 4 ladies of soul perform every year, as you know she sung "Run To You" last year at the event (Witch is the video you just reacted to) and it went viral thanks to Nicki Minaj tweeting her performance and AGT saw the video and asked her to audition for the show. Also a lot of big names in music as well as the writers for the song "Run To You" by Whitney have also been in contact with Glennis so i'm hoping for the best!

I’m a huge Whitney Houston fan and very critical about singers who try to imitate her. But when I heard Glennis for the first time when she was 15years old I was so amazed... not only she sounds a lot like Whitney but I was impressed by her vocals ability’s!And to be honest she can get me in tears when she sings a Whitney song! But also other songs..I’m like Wow! Goosebumps!

It's a pitty that she has only 90 seconds to sing her song in the live shows at agt.But if you see and hearing all her live performances on youtube you have to admit that she's a great singer.

I’m so happy, you took this rendition. She is sinking in front of 16000 people at The LoS concert. Glennis is a one of the greatest singers on the planet. It sure is, for some odd reason she is not the biggest star in the Netherlands. But that will change for sure after AGT.
there is nothing odd about Glennis not being that big in her own country, she's made a lot of nonsense, commercialised singles that didn't attract many listeners. And her biggest hit was a cover she did that already had been a big hit. She could've gained a lot more credibility by singing original, genuine songs. She didn't and now she's trying a different approach. Good for her, but as good as a singer I think she is, I don't think I will buy her music if she keeps singing all that commercial crap. She had to sing some, supposedly VERY difficult, musical song during the quarter or semi-finals (don't remember) and it made me cringe. What an awful song that was, but it attracts the American 'bling-bling' audience who starts to critisize her for wearing a jacket they didn't like and now they're asking her to wear more 'bling-bling' type of clothes for the next show...as if that's got something to do with being a great singer. I hope she wins, but I also hope she will meet a great songwriter who writes original, good songs after all this. She's too good a singer to keep singin' covers and/or Whitney material. And she's too good for Vegas too.

I think Glennis didn't have the songwriters available in The Netherlands who are able to write for that kind of voice and style.
I think her stength lies in r&b and soul but because she had success singing in her native language she pursued that.
But everything changed for her when that "Run To You" yt vid went viral.
She already met some famous songwriters like Allan Rich and Jud Freidman,Bebe Winans,Walter Afanasieff and more great songwriters/producers.
So I think we are in for a treat...can't wait for that album coming out !
She is underrated in the Netherlands because most white Dutch don't like her way of singing. But now suddenly they do.

She was on a chatshow in the Netherlands talking about how her people got contacted by Simon's people to get her to become a contestant. I vaguely remember them having a right good old laugh at the whole dramatisation ('sob story culture') of US talent shows and how it was just a big adventure for her. She was even paid to take part. The interview was in dutch; only understood the main arguments as a German speaker but it just reinforces the whole fictitiousness of these programmes in the name of entertainment xD
Maybe her expenses were paid, but she didn't got paid to take part. It's true that it's a show where for every contender a sad story is made. And hers was hinting at totaly ridiculous and even insulting image: A single mom with an unexpected talent. The reality is that she's a succesfull and well payed singer for many decades in her country by working very hard and many, many years of practice.

I respect Glennis for not selling her soul for fame and fortune. She had an American management team soon after AGT but Glennis quickly realised what they were going to do to her and she pulled out. She knew what the industry did to Whitney and to many other exceptional artists like her and she knew that she didn’t want that for herself. She enjoys her freedom and privacy and she knows if she allowed the Americans to manager her career, they will make her so famous to the point where she loses every bit of privacy and she’ll be stuck. Once you are at Whitney’s level of stardom, you can never get rid of it. You can’t tap out and go back to being a normal person. Glennis doesn’t need that, she’s already famous enough.

It makes me laugh when people say she is 'only' a Whitney tribute. ONLY!! To be able to sing like Whitney in her prime is something so extraordinary, it's difficult to listen at times because I think I am listening to Whitney and remember the intense beauty she gave the world.

I was sorry to not see Glennis Grace win Simon Cowell’s AGT show ‼️‼️...I’m not sure why, maybe it was her age, maybe it’s her lack of confidence in her future , maybe it was all the Whitney songs?

for singers from our country it is very hard to get famous in other country's and that is why she is on agt because she is good enough for more then just the Netherlands and that is why she is nervous every single time she must sing , in america there are 14 miljion people wathing agt every week that is almost our hole country when she is singing in the Netherlands than she can be very happy if 2 miljion people have seen it that is why she is in agt to show here talent on a big podium

Yeah this is such a great performance. Shiver. A lot of people compare Glennis Grace with Whitney Houston and that is normal. When she was 16 years old, she won the Soundmixshow with a performance of Whitney Houston. But I think Whitney Houston never sing this 'Run to you' live so good as Glennis did. I wonder if Whitney ever sung this song live.
When i first watched this i was blown away just like you was, however right at the very end I thought she made a mistake with her breathy ending and was unusually flat..........until I watched it the 2nd and 3rd time, then realised the emotion of the song (and probably Whitneys passing) got the better of her during that last few notes! She was clearly teary when she waved goodbye to the crowd, so I give that a 100% flawless performance, and I very rarely give a Dazzy 100 lol x
Yehh I thought "Never Enough" quite suit her either, she didn't know the song apparently and it was selected for her by AGT. She obviously connected much better with "Run To You" amazing!

Glennis has sung all her life but in Holland you can be famous and still walk normally through the streets like you are the girl next door. Even our Prime Minister goes to work on his bicycle! Glennis is still performing on market squares and corporate parties. Yes she did a few big shows with the "ladies of Soul" but you can't make a living out of few big performances a year sharing the stage with 4/5 other so called famous Dutch Singers. It's only been recent that she got noticed internationally through the Run to you video. AGT invited her and she refused first but got persuaded by her son to take on this chance cause he loves the show. Truth is... this could/will be her doorstep to bigger stages and finally her big dream America! Well deserved. Very proud of her! As a vocal teacher myself I must say that till a few years ago I always thought she was pushing her voice too much and not in touch with the content of the songs but in recent years she started opening up and hitting higher notes than ever before and putting emotions into it. She's at her best ever now!

They do that to get the highest level posible. They want to have the best performer's.

Like most everyone, I am in awe of the singing ability of Glennis. You don't have to be a professional singing coach to recognize her other worldly talent. As close to flawless as I've ever heard. It does give shivers. But since this is a channel about singing, I would point out that there is also a small component that is rarely discussed and it is breathing technique. With some singers, they are barely heard taking a breath, even when they take a large breath. Glennis's breathing is a tiny bit noticeable and seems to have a tiny bit more rasp than some. Her native language (Dutch) is a bit more guttural language, so perhaps this is just natural. Again, she is amazing and this is the only thing I could even find to comment.
I am very surprised that not many people in the UK have heard of Glennis Grace, given she is well known in the Netherlands, and other parts of Europe even. There are numerous You Tube clips of her, and if you look for her singing live with the Metropole Orchestra, (who by the way appear annually at BBC Proms, and have won their own Grammy awards), you will see what a natural she is. I was surprised to see her "auditioning" for America's Got Talent. When I first saw she was on the show, I thought it was as a guest from overseas.. Shows how backward America is, not knowing much about this singer. As stated here, she doesn't need to win, she only needs more exposure, and these talent shows, dictated by mainly public voting, are not a true indication of real "talent" anyway. Given how the public have voted in the past, for acts that are nowhere near as good as those who miss out, it is hardly a reliable method. And as Cuen Bas has said here down the page, it is ridiculous that Mel B is even judging her. Mel B was a simply a performer. Glennis Grace is a singer's singer..an artiste. Faultless performances. And above all, she is not full of herself with a "notice me" attitude like..for example....dare I say it..Mariah Carey.
