Crazy how this song almost didn't come to light because the producer thought the meaning of the song was odd. Then bam. One of the most iconic songs of all time.

Legends!! One of my fave tracks for half a century. Past 48 years of my whole existence, it still sounds absolutely amazing, and always will, to my very last moment on earth.
It’s something about the sound 80’s music produces that make it sound uniquely identifiable to the decade and this song is the masterpiece that ties it all together
Drums echoing tonite still in Sept 2024. Tell me ... who is still listening this ever gorgeous and sentimental song by ToTo to bless the rains down in Africa.
It’s worse than that. The rest of the band didn’t like the song, they didn’t understand the lyrics. Paich considered dropping the song from the album and save it for a solo project that would come some time later. But perhaps an angel suddenly passed through the studio and had the band eventually cut the song. The rest is history as they say 😊
In Toto’s “Africa” (1982), the words “BLESS THE RAINS” have two meanings… A LITERAL SENSE, “being thankful for the blessing of rain in a drought” and a FIGURATIVE SENSE, “being thankful for the blessing of time spent with their loved one”‼️ 💜🌧️💜
Few songs are as soothingly healing & relaxing in all that they evoke, for such peacefully contemplative reflection overtakes me every time I hear it, it lifts me up & beyond all while taking me to places & realms that my eyes have never seen, making me feel far more alive & vibrant & spiritual. More human. This masterpiece, in all its glorious timelessness, has that beautifully transcendent effect upon me, helping to purify my soul as most of my worries fade away. What sublime exaltation, what magically endearing serenity, what mesmerized wonder, what loving detachment from the madness of it all, what mystically sweet sensations have flooded all throughout my essence, what wonderfully primitive sensibilities burst from deep within, what freedom of thought & moving around to foreign landscapes to explore & marvel at, what rapture. This song! Amazing!
My ex boyfriend used to work in a big department store in the electrical department selling stereos etc. When demonstrating them he used to play this song really loudly and people would always buy one because everyone loves this song.
Billy68.
The lines “I know I must do what’s right” and “I seek to cure what’s deep inside, frightened of this thing I’ve become” They describe a constant struggle in myself
Every time I'm in a bad mood I think of the art installation that someone literally put somewhere in a desert in the middle of Africa that plays this song on endless repeat, forever, powered by the sun. And then I chuckle. (And yes, that is a real thing. Look it up!)
I'm one of those people that miss hear lyrics. I thought this song went, ' I miss the rains down in Africa.' Otherwise, the instrumentals give the song its own vibe. It's smooth and tells a story. Very individual.
I confess this music is so gorgeous it kinda deserved some more profoiund lyrics, about the majesty of the clear nighhts on the Serengheti, out in Africa....
This song will always remind me of the specific episode of Scrubs😊 But it hits different when you're African living in Africa and vibing to this track on a rainy December night, eating mangoes😊😊

When I was a kid and this came out, I thought it was "There's nothing that a hundred men on board could ever do". For years until I found out what they were saying I couldn't reconcile what a bunch of sailors at sea had to do with the African Savanah. 😂
I discovered this song during my first backpacking trip, at 22 years old. I was _instantly_ obsessed, and listened to it on repeat while crossing from Spain to Morocco. I actually had my iPod buds cranked so loud that I missed an announcement over the ferry's intercom that a border official was on board. Apparently, anyone who wanted entrance into Morocco had to get their passport stamped while _ON_ the ferry. My heart sank when I tried to disembark in Tangier and realized I'd missed my chance. I had to beg the stone faced official to stamp it anyways. He hinted that I would have to pay some kind of bribe to make it worth his trouble. So naturally, I just played dumb and explained _why_ I had missed the announcement. The moment I mentioned Toto, his stern face cracked into a knowing smile. So in the end, I blessed the rains down in Africa.
This song will forever remind me of the 1978 film The Wild Geese. Hell of a movie, and a great song that somehow fits the film...despite not being associated with it in any way.
