Can I ask why this conversation needed to be free of bias? That's impossible. Coates is an intelligent journalist. Why can't he handle hard hitting questions? He seemed to do just fine, no? It's the weird infantilization and anger that anyone could have a differing opinion that's a big yikes for me.

Tony, it’s not the existence of a Jewish state that offends me, Ta-Nehisi or any of us as African Americans….it is any state built upon apartheid and that’s something we will always guard against given our history. It is also not lost of us the ignorance of most YT Americans to these historical linkages. It’s also why it was South Africa that presented the case against Israel at the ICC. We know the horrific impacts apartheid and Jim Crow had on our countries, why would we ever condone the Israelis doing that to Palestinians?

He said exactly the opposite. He asked why their agency wasn't mentioned in the book. Many people take a paternalistic view of people when they view them as "needing help." It sounded to me like this book about a difficult topic garnered difficult questions. These are two journalists trained to ask and answer tough questions. They even ended the interview in a good place, with the interviewer inviting him to high holidays that start this week. Part of Judaism and Jewish culture is "arguing" in order to learn. It's not about glossing over stuff, but having conversations with opposing views to learn and grow. And you shake hands and leave with respect for the other person, just as you entered the conversation. That's what I saw here.

I really appreciate Ta-Nehisi challenging the way the question was framed. No he didn't. He called Coates an extremist for writing against segregation. Then asked why he, as the son of Black parents born into Jim Crowe America, why he doesn't support Israel's apartheid. Bizarre, biased, and unprofessional.

Tony said Coates is an extremist for writing about opposition to segregation. Are you a big fan of asking Black Americans why they won't support apartheid? LOL Jesus.

@@barbarawilson295 that’s interesting, I thought his response was well thought and very nuanced. He addressed why he thought Tony was having that reaction, and then explained why it’s important to recognize the suffering of the Palestinian people.

We obviously also need to question those who profess to be journalists. Tony's question, and his earlier comments in the show about Hezbollah were not neutral or unbiased.

Israel has all the power and has frequently unleashed terrorist attacks and devastation on all of its neighbors and the prisoners it keeps in Gaza and the West Bank. They are not "the most moral army in the world", they are a nation that couches every single action it takes as it being national security while they commit endless war crimes. Western media will always be combative to any who call for a free Palestine, those that argue for better conditions and self-determination for those stuck there, but we will not be silent. As MLK Jr said, "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly."
