  • Jim Eby talks at the Concours d'Lemons Michigan about the 1919 Franklin that has been in his family since new. In the summer of 2018, Jim and his wife Therese took the Franklin-former family car, farm hauler, Sunday driver, restoration project, and now cross-country tourer-from their home in St. Petersburg to the Concours d'Lemons events in Michigan and Monterey before driving home. Reliable Carriers, Inc. offered to pick up the car to get it to the shows if it breaks while FAST Cooling provided a cool-suit setup for the return journey across the Southwest and South in summer.
The Franklin has a top speed of about 45 miles per hour and its air-cooled engine requires top-end oiling ever 100 miles and a full oil change every 1,000 miles because the engine is otherwise unfiltered.

Air cooled beauty (that's right, no radiator) manufactured in Syracuse, NY. Original! $3000 in 1919 adj. for inflation ~$300,000 today. Gramps was doing Ok in 1919

Amazing been with one family it,s whole life! I sincerely the next generation will carry on and continue the good work! Not great braking system!! I am surprised that uprated brakes were not an option when it was new, maybe they were?? Choose a lowish gear for going down that mountain and let your engine control the speed. VERY very nice car, especially being with one family it,s ENTIRE lifetime!!
I would run upper cylinder lubricant in the petrol to help the top end ( i use it in my own cars by choice just to be a little kinder to the engines ) Jonathan W ( he has a well known youtube channel ) he has a Franklin similar to this but Jonathans Franklin is not restored.
