I knew they were going to include a character being similar to "Who rang that bell?!" but I'm glad that Ari made it changed to "The wizard will see you now!" It's such an iconic line from the musical.

@@Breen_bot I think they changed that because the midwife is an Animal, and to build the story of Elphaba’s devotion to helping Animals, they need to set it up that the Animals in Elphaba’s life are the ones that don’t treat her badly just for being green. Of course, Elphaba doesn’t remember the day she’s born, but it plays to the nanny/midwife’s character. Yes she’s stunned at the moment of birth, but otherwise treats Elphaba like a normal child.
@@Breen_botI heard that was an intentional choice to show that the Animals and particularly Dulcabear was more accepting of Elfaba. (Uncanny is so much nicer than atrocious )They only have a short moment to show Dulcabear and their connection so they added that bit to make more of a connection to her character. Probably why they changed “Green” as well, to have another moment that sets up the fathers abusiveness and anger toward Elfaba

Thank you so much to Ari for protecting our beloved wicked. I, like Ariana, saw wicked when I was a kid and (not the slightest bit exaggerating) i was OBSESSED with it. It is so important to me that these movies capture the spirit of the musical and get it right. The first one was phenomenal. I was skeptical about Ari playing Glinda at first, but she totally won me over with her acting, singing, and just how much she loves the story and is determined that these movies will be good. I know we can trust her with wicked. This comforts me that the second half in in good hands as well. Eternally grateful to Ariana. ❤️❤️
I didn’t write the script so I don’t know what the original line was, but I know I grew up on “ the Wizard will see you now” and that’s what I wanna see. Ariana was right to insist on the change.
It’s so awkward… the fuck are they laughing about? Even Arianna seems like she doesn’t know how to react to it. They aren’t actually listening to what she’s saying. I don’t usually use cringe but I can’t think of a better word here…
Please tell me they're laughing from something they'd said _before_ this clip. Laughing while she's telling a story that isn't anywhere near _that_ hilarious is obnoxious.
I love it because she and Cynthia clearly have so much love and respect for this musical and they know what's important to the fans, even down to the little stupid things that we all love like that line. If they didn't have someone (or in this case, Stephen Schwartz) say "the wizard will see you now" it would've felt like an empty space they forgot to fill. This is what Ariana meant when she found out she was being cast and she said "I'm going to take such good care of her." She did and they all did and I'm so happy for them and for us, as the viewers, who now to get to experience this beautiful piece they've put so much time and energy and care into.
"The wizard will see you now." was the ONE thing I was disappointed about in the movie. I love that Ariana and Cynthia made the roles their own (as they should), and of course the movie shouldn't be exactly like the stage production, but I was looking forward to that guy literally shouting that line!
Who rang that bell existed well after this. The line in the musical is The Wizard Will See You Now before the final sung word of One Short Day. Can't just change it for a film.
