When Will Smith shows up at the gate and says, "Here's my clearance," it's just perfect. Meanwhile, the speech at the end spoken by the president? EPIC!!!!
I first saw this opening day in downtown Burbank CA! 🎉 When the News castor said “Los Angelenos please do not fire your guns at the spaceship…” everyone cheered so loud you could hear it from outer space! 🔫🫡😂🇺🇸
The president was one of the few trained and experienced fighter pilots left. He was needed in the air to give his daughter a chance to live. He was actually doing things the way commanders used to. Troops used to follow their commanders into battle. It's extremely rare for a modern army to do it that way.
Theodore Roosevelt literally disappeared for months with the Rough Ryders. While he was the acting Commander in Chief, this man took an expedition out west. For MONTHS. And remember. This is 1900. The level of communication is horseback and Morse code. We could have been invaded, or something else hugely responsible for his input...And they wouldn't have found him till weeks later. Those that want to talk about how President's check out and don't care, clearly don't remember that we had a sitting President who actually disappeared for several months while he was in power. This was also Spanish American War/Haiti rebellion time period.
I remember taking my friend to see this in theaters. We were in middle school and my friend was the quiet type. I remember when the good old boys in the diner were bullying Russel she suddenly started shouting at the screen, “Leave him alone! What is WRONG with you?! He’s already having a bad day!” It was so surprising and even in a full theater nobody got mad. Just a few chuckles and some muttering. Then when the ship appears right after, she really lost her sh-t. “Oh, is it still FUNNY?! Who’s laughing NOW?!” And at this point her vibe had kind of infected everyone and some people cheered while everyone else laughed. (I realize this is sounding like a “then everyone clapped,” moment, but it’s one of my favorite memories.)
It can absolutely happen. My bestie and I went to go watch Freddy vs Jason the weekend it came out and for some reason it just kept hitting our funny bone. What should have been a scary-ish movie for some had the whole theatre cracking up and making wise cracks at the movie. It was like watching with 60 or so of your favorite people. ❤😂
When they were entering the atmosphere, that wasn’t a weapon that’s just what happens when you hit our atmosphere at speed. It’s why our space shuttle has heat shielding. And the flame is proportional to the size of the item, they were 15 miles wide so that heat was probably a good quarter mile thick so just skimming it but still huge.
It was Apollo 11. “The Eagle has Landed”. Checkout all the cool space stuff we did at “Kennedy Space Center”, Cocoa Beach Fl. And take the day tour out to the launch pads. There’s a whole Saturn 5 rocket suspended from the ceiling. Most of all have fun…..it’s worth the trip. Cheers
Apollo 11 was the craft that landed Neil Armstrong on the moon in 1969. Apollo 13 was destined for the moon but never made it there. I watch both unfold on live tv. Go to the moon?? Hell no!! One of the first things I learned was, If it wasn't for bad luck I'd have no luck at all.😂
It won the Oscar for Best Visual Effects. It made $817 million dollars ($1.4 billion dollars today) against a $75 million dollar budget. A sequel, INDEPENDENCE DAY RESURGENCE was released in 2016, but it was not well received by critics or fans. It was a moderate success at the box office, $390 million dollars against a $150 million dollar budget.
Second one did more then twice the budget, I think, that is considered a success. I really like it too, it was fun. And it is a good movie for a reaction.
@@DanielaDormiaru-ih9xf generally a movie has to do two And a half times the budget to be considered a profitable movie. So it did by that metric make a small profit
I get why you think the President made a mistake, he had a daughter to take care of, and a country to lead. But Earth was running out of "front line warriors", aka pilots. His daughter would still be provided for, the country would promote the next leader, but they couldn't provide or promote anymore pilots, they had to take what they could get, even crop dusters. and as you likely know, "front line warriors" feel responsible, they always need to fulfil their duty, even after retirement. In that moment his duty was to humanity, not his daughter or his country.
Pilots are constantly flying through clouds & weather they can’t see in, fairly normal but usually there aren’t giant fireballs to run into in the middle of the sky
When Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum are flying out of the mother ship, Jeff Goldblum says "Must go faster, Must go faster".. The very same thing he says when the T-Rex is chasing him in the Jeep in Jurassic Park.

Seeing this in the big screen on the 4th of July weekend was epic! Everyone in the theater was pumped. It was like being in a sporting event. Chants of 🇺🇸 and I heard a lady say "this what a black man can do" with pride. And the president's speach brought the house down.
Apollo 13 was after the first moon landing. They wanted to land on the moon, but because of so many disasters on board, they changed the plans. Their goal changed to simply getting those astronauts home alive..
In regards to the President going out to fight after his wife's death, there's one thing you have to take into account: He is a father. A loving parent will fight tooth and nail for their child. It's why Russell pulled the sacrifice (because if he didn't, then all of humanity, including his own kids, would be wiped out). Yes, he lost his wife, but in the grander scheme of things, he did it to protect his daughter and humanity in order for there to be a future with the human race there.
Man I remember the first time I saw the trailer for this in the theatre. It was a movie I had always dreamt about especially with updated special effects. American fighter jets vs UFOs. And since there was not much of an internet back then, I recall nervously listening to my radio to get first impressions from movie goers who went to it on opening night lol.

2:30 - No. This was from Apollo 11 (which in 2019 had actual footage upscaled and made into a movie, I highly recommend watching it, for the actual historical value if nothing else). Apollo 13 was a few years later. That movie was a Hollywood version, though pretty historically accurate (for the most part). Also, the Apollo 11 moon landing is in fact my earliest memory. I was 2 1/2 years old, and remember watching it on television because everyone in my family kept telling me just how historic it was. While I didn't understand at the time how historic it was, I would later on in life. Also, and I'll say this because it's July 4... I hear that the flag we left there has most likely been bleached white by the sun.... so now everyone will think France went there if they can't read the plaque. (that's a 'France always surrenders' joke, if you didn't get it) Also, Devin, if you want to see a more modern take on the alien invasion.... check out the movie "Battleship". best first: "Battle: Los Angeles" (2011) Aaron Eckhart, Bridget Moynahan "Species" (1995) "Alien Nation" (1988 original movie) James Caan "Bright" (2017) Will Smith "War of the Worlds" (2005 version) Tom Cruise "Mars Attacks!" (1996)
There is an episode of the Fresh Prince of Bel Air where Evander Holyfield was on it. It was a Christmas Episode. Holyfield came over after an argument he had with Will about Chrismas Lights. They had to put Will in an Oversized Shirt to look smaller because when he was next to Holyfield they were about the Same Size with Body Type. They were like we can't have Will looking like he matches up with the Champ.
100% agree w u about the president being selfish by going on the mission. He was the only parent left for his daughter. I haven’t heard anyone else say that.
Keep in mind there was only a handful of real experience fighters left and none of them were commanders. They needed a leader in those skies and he was the only person capable of doing it. If he doesn't go then the mission will fail and they all die so there is no point in staying for your daughter when your all going to die if you don't go.

There's a reason I live in the middle of nowhere.
