In the context of history years after this and the respective earlier version in C Sharp Minor catalogued as VB 140 this being the revised piece, it was said by Haydn remarking to their mutual friend Swedish diplomat Fredrik Samuel Silverstolpe that: "The symphony he wrote here in Vienna especially for me will be regarded as a masterpiece for centuries to come; believe me, there are few people who can compose something like that," from the composer who said nothing but good of W.A. Mozart, this composer recognised his talent, and taking the idea from Gluck's overture to Iphigénie en Aulide. Just think of people thought outside of Mozart and Haydn how many more colours this short lived period would have today.
I just recently got into classical music and was trying to start with composers other than Beethoven, Bach and Mozart, just to see who else was out there and I’ve found a plethora of amazing composers. Obviously still enjoy Beethoven and Mozart! Im also more of a fan of Johann Christian Bach than Johann Sebastian but, that doesn’t mean I don’t like J.S. as well. Just happen to prefer J.C. But one of my favorites that I’ve heard so far is, and that would be Arcangelo Corelli.
@Alex Tejada Híjole, pues ni cómo ayudarte, vato. Muy chida tu preferencia por el mariachi y los tacos grasosos, pero fíjate, es TU preferencia xD cosa que a nadie le importa si no eres famoso. No dejes comentarios estúpidos, pls.
+Herr Preuss What a most convoluted form of expression. I certainly do hope English is not your mother tongue. You comment on a work's lack of greatness, yet you find no way to point out as to why. Your arrogance is disgusting, and your manner likewise. Cheers, mate.
Краус велик уже тем, что положил начало практически современной симфонической музыке. Его сочинения приятно звучат и в них ощущается мастерство композитора. Неясно только кто исполняет это произведение, а жаль. Какой оркестр, кто дирижер? Привет из Киева.
Frauncis Shakespeare Kraus’ symphony in c minor (1783), is a very fine work, but to put it in context, it is contemporaneous with Mozart’s Symphonies 35 ‘Haffner’ (1782), and 36 ‘Linz’ (1783), and Haydn’s Symphonies 76, 77, and 78 (1782), and 79, 80 and 81 (1783/84). All eight of the works by Mozart and Haydn listed above are unqualified masterpieces that set the bar beyond the capabilities of every other contemporary composer. Kraus’ symphony certainly approaches these works by the two composers by whom all others must be ultimately judged, but perhaps ‘blew the frigate Mozart out of the water!’ is somewhat hyperbolic. You’re quite right though - this is an amazing work; and of course, it was Haydn who first described Kraus as a genius.
Well I would not wish to suggest that Mozarts requiem is better than a great deal of good eighteen century music . Unless of course one is a bit morbid.
Almost nothing of Mozart in this music, perhaps a bit of Haydn and Gluck, and maybe one or two others assimilated into his style, but really, Kraus is a very individual Classical period voice.
So clear tonal language and simple, nice melodies!
This composer and this symphony is a wondrous gift to humanity as it is music that lifts the soul to lofty places.
perhaps the best symphony by the best composer almost nobody knows. a shame.
Great symphony! I love the dramatic use of the lower register of notation in the 1st movement.
Wow this is just beautiful, thanks!
I love this. At 1:06 .. the chills begin ... and then at 2:47 ... more....and then at 3:02 ...oh my gosh wow.

so brilliant ! thanks !
wonderful!
Here from his Soliman II work. It seems that I like his style.
There's nothing average about his music.
Indeed.
Nothing great either
Herr Preuss This is a joke, righto moi8? Please do explain.
+SNES3 An explanation isn't a privilege of yours no more than it is of mine, my dear.

What nonsense!
@@elaineblackhurst1509 Yeah, this sounds dated in comparison to Mozart's and Haydn's symphonies of that time.
