    My mother used to make pumpkin fruit cakes, but I was raised eating it either boiled, then mashes, or roasted in an oven until very dark and caramelised (yum!). Pumpkin has been a daily vegetable in Australia all my life.

    • @kelmac1618
      @kelmac1618 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Divine, indeed! Scones, or as a side dish prepared like potato. Pumpkin in Australia is so much nicer than in the US! I loved the Queensland Blue Pumpkins!
      Our orange skinned pumpkins in the US are thinner walled, with stringy flesh, and far less tasty. I buy kabocha squash (Japanese) because I miss the Ozzy pumpkins.

    • @xymonau2468
      @xymonau2468 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kelmac1618 That's interesting. I don't like the Qld blue as much as Jap or Kent pumpkins. They are much sweeter - and a little easier to cut (but still dense). And they caramelise even more. I looked at kabochas and they are very like Jap/Kent. The skin has a little less yellow, I think. We call all the yellow solid fleshed ones "pumpkin" and the ones that are clear and soft, like zucchini, "squash".

    One of my hobbies is cooking and baking. I love making pumpkin pecan bread ohm its so good. Or pumpkin cheesecake. Another thing I love to do is my grandma taught me this. The day after Halloween you can usually get leftover pumpkins cheaply. Most sellers just throw em away so if you haggle for the ones still nice and firm you can get the prices down.my grandma would take pieces of skinned seeded pumpkin and put them in jars with brown sugar nutmeg and cinnamon. The can em. She would also freeze some and use it stews or soups or eve goulashes. Or just take some out and put butter salt and pepper on it and roast it in the oven or she sometimes made candied pumpkin as she made candied yams for thanksgiving. Pumpkin bars, pies and bread are still my favorite though.

      Yes, it's nice. Look up recipes for Lauki Ghosht which translates to 'pumpkin meat' (the curry is implied).

      Oh I love lauki gosht.. lauki is the green pumpkin which is called bottle gourd as well. While the orange round fat one is used for sweet recipes

    Oh my! Their hearts are so pure and full of love, that it makes me cry. Mr. Rana said our food comes in boxes like that was good, but Mr. Rana, that is not good, our food like that makes us unhealthy. I am thinking your food is probably healthier and more delicious than our processed food, here in the West. Your healthy food is far more powerful for people than a lot of the food in the West. Much love to the entire TPT team.
