    This is very good. My tree was in a pot for 2 yrs. I planted last year in ground and it had tons of peaches and so good. I have never pruned this tree. It kind of intimidates me. But going to try. I’m confused about 1 year wood. Do I cut them off? How do I tell what is one year wood? Do I trim off the top of the tree? Some branches are longer then others. Just don’t want to kill it.

      Leave the one year old so fruit will grow on them. One year old looks smooth and maybe slightly reddish bark. Two year old bark is grayish and not as smooth.

    When you cut your besnches do you cut on a angle and can I put a dab of glue on them? Thanks jim

      I just cut square with the branch. You could use a white glue like school glue after pruning to keep the bugs out.

    Hey can I top an older tree? I’m leaning towards yes...
    I got a semi dwarf that was in a wine barrel for 3-4 years, I put it in the ground this will be it’s 3 rd year with me, it was a Home Depot clearance item..
    The [only 2]main branches are 6 ft up and it’s a mess from there, the trunk is also NOT strong and thick...
    The graft is just above ground level, can’t I just lop the main trunk about 3-4 feet above the graft and regrow some nice low scaffold branches?
    I don’t know why I’m so scared to do it, I don’t want to lose the tree it produces lots of big juicy delicious peaches, I’m willing to sacrifice 1 or 2 years of fruit if I can get the tree into a more user-friendly shape...

    Well done Pete! I have a peach tree I will look at tomorrow. My live oaks not all but some grow trees up from the roots. Do you know anything about them?

    • @petebeasttexashomesteading
      @petebeasttexashomesteading  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you, I have plenty of live oaks on my property and they seem to do well on their own. But unfortunately I don't know much about them other than they drop millions of acorns everywhere to start new trees. 🙂

    Is it safe to prune during the summer?
    And which ground cover is better the one with yellow stripes or the one with green stripes?
    Thanks for the video

    • @petebeasttexashomesteading
      @petebeasttexashomesteading  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Most people prune early in winter or spring just before the tree blooms but pruning in the summer is fine especially if it's out of control. When you purchase weed fabric, look for a higher ounces, 5 oz is more durable then 3 oz fabric.

    I have apple trees, and last year planted two peach trees. It looks like the wine-glass shape is ideal for both. Is that true/realistic?

    • @dmtaylo1
      @dmtaylo1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Vase or wine glass shape is great for semi-dwarf apple. For full dwarf, you might find the traditional single-leader shape better. For peaches, always go with vase shape.

    @5:31 you say that the branch you just cut is diseased. Should you have sanitized your clippers before cutting another branch on the same tree?

    • @petebeasttexashomesteading
      @petebeasttexashomesteading  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's the same tree, You want to sanitize when you go from tree to tree so you don't spread it to other trees.

      @@petebeasttexashomesteading Thanks! I've got some fruit trees coming in about a week so I'm doing a quick refresher on maintenance! Hopefully, I don't have any disease issues though.

    What would have been funny as hell, is when you cut the fig tree then to see your wife come around the corner with a bucket of water to throw on you and then ask you if you have lost your ever loving mind!???!!!???? 🤣🤣🤣

    yo pete for your motorbike 6.5hp what tire diameter did u use thanks. also my replica of yours in almost done. thx a lot for your video, without it, i would of had building trouble.instagram.com/p/BwAsQ32AOQd/ I was gonna use 10" tire, as with my tq converter and all it worked out to 60mph. But one guy said it would be bad especially with potholes idk, whats your opinion. the gap between the frame and road is 3" with the 10" tire installed, maybe i should go bigger?

    • @petebeasttexashomesteading
      @petebeasttexashomesteading  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your ground clearance is good and I used a 10-inch tire on mine. I got 37 mph on my bike pusher, 60 would not be safe with bike tires, they are not designed for that speed. Here's the wheel I used gokartsusa.com/10inchsteelwheelwithsprocketdrumandbearingspart10124.aspx
