Thank you for the upload, I just finished my military service in S.Korea for 2 years , before I'd joined S.korean Army , I bought this watch, though other Korean soldiers have G-shock, but I bought this watch from street stall in front of military training school, the seller strongly had recommended a watch, so I bought it. ( he ripped me off , I paid 40$) in PX (post exchange) , they are selling G-shock, so most of S.korean soldiers wears G-shock. One day I'd been patrolling Military demarcation line (between S.Korea and N.Korea)and I encountered 2 North Korean soldiers. They wanted exchanged cigarettes, lighters, with me, and very very young (approx.16-17 years old) N.Korean soldier begged me he could have my Casio, I happily gave my watch. a while later he'd checked my watch carefully and He gave the watch back to me. he said 'its not G-shock, you are S.Korean soldier and how come you dont have a Casio?' he complained me . I have many memories with whis watch
Thanks for sharing that story, how interesting. Sounds like the watch served you well despite being a cheap imitation! Haha just to let you know the real G-shock this is based on retails for USD$600... would've been a great gift if it was a real one!
The Skmei are really great for starting out young kids on watch collecting. If they are willing to take care of a $15 watch, then you know how they will treat higher quality watches. I’ve given a couple of them away to nephews and it tells me who I can give the more expensive watches as gifts to. Thanks Ivan.
Highly highly disagree, why buy a fake replica of an expensive watch to start out, first of all promotes cheap knockoffs. The best way to get kids into watches is by giving them a £20 Casio and let them keep that until it breaks. I got a Casio ae100w when I was 8 and even though it hasn't been that long, I'm 15 now, it's running perfectly fine. that watch got me into g shocks and now I wear a mudman g9300. In the future I hope to get more into watches when I can afford them. Sorry for sounding imperative or rude.

This is a very well done review. I've tried these low cost watches. They work okay and acceptably keep time. The actual fact is, the quality of the cheap watches and long term time accuracy cannot meet the expensive watches in the many hundreds of dollars. If you have a kid who sometimes looses things, and is rough on watches like most would be, then giving him or her a cheap watch would be a good idea. At under $20 buying a few watches per month is a lot better than wiping out a watch costing in the hundreds of dollars. As for myself I buy the G-Shock, or Timex, or Nexis or an equivalent watch in the many hundreds of dollars when I want a new watch.
Thanks for the positive feedback! From what I've seen I'd say the quality definitely doesn't measure up, which I certainly don't expect it to for such an incredibly low price. Quartz technology however makes accuracy affordable - I synced this watch with an AT signal over a week ago and as of now it's run 2 seconds slow... which is comparable to typical accuracy of quality quartz movements, even say Swiss Ronda. Good points about being able to give these to kids... some other viewers also commented along the same lines. Cheers!
I agree with you so much! There are some awesome watches coming from China these days and offering great value for money. brands like Skmei, Smael, Sanda and so on give a good fight to big companies like Casio and such.
Have a couple of Skmei watch's,I don't need all the fancy functions the Casio has ,just a watch for work ,they get abused , knock around ,and are in and out of water several times daily ,they are reliable, they keep good time ,and for the price they are great value
At least Skmei don't try and hide that they are copying the real thing unlike some other mobs ...I own the previous model Skmei 1155 , got two actually and they are bloody tough little buggers .. I've done heaps to mine , been in all sorts of crap with both of them and they just keep coming back for more .. In two years one has had the secondary battery replaced at the princely sume of $4... I'm actually impressed and will buy more Skmei later on .. I also own a Jag , a Rip Curl and an Oskar Emil that all cost heaps more but I grab one of my two Skmei's every day anyway...It's not a G Shock but it ain't bad .
Cool! Can I ask how long has your longest serving one lasted? Have you changed the battery on one yet? I notice they state the battery type on the case back!
@@PerthWAtch They last for a couple of years without a battery change, some less than a couple of years... One can have a whole collection of Skmei watches for the price of a cheap g shock.
Have you dropped any yet? Like you can do with a G-shock. Their "mudman" looks like a G-shock. No multiple functions like the G-Shock. If I needed to wear a watch while scrubbing bathrooms or cleaning out horse stalls, sure, this would fit the bill. That acrylic crystal will scratch and crack. The watch had no heft to it. The case is just cheap plastic. Maybe the battery is good? The orange backlight is acceptable. Should have just gotten a DW-5600 for $40. Much better than a bunch of Skmei. Unless you want to be THAT guy. 🤔 Many of my G-Shock have lasted over 20 years. The modules work, but the resin had cracked. Now there are even aftermarket cases and straps for them. G-Shock for life. For real.
Thanks! I reckon I'm gonna have to flip these as soon as I'm done with... I mean they're cool and all, but with the real thing in hand, they ain't really gonna get any wrist time...!
Got cutoff I’m a car guy or was retired now made nice money on buying and selling old cars many years ago. Stored them at my friends father turkey farm they were used anymore. I’m 78 so I had lots of oldies but goodies. Getting ready to snow bird to Florida kept only one car 1980 red corvette not worth anything but my wife likes it no rust my camaro misses it so it’s coming to New York next spring then they will be stored at the turkey farm in the winter.
I already put the camaro to bed 3 weeks and counting I go to the V.A. and volunteer my time with my brothers so sad no leg or legs arms cancer sick. If they like my watch I give it to them I tell them there knock offs go to you tube to change the batteries or let me know and I’ll get you another one. It’s so sad that a lot of them not all are hurting money wise. The government sucks we are disposable.Sorry rambling 78🤯
Yeah. I can see how it might be confusing using both the word "daily" and "EDC" right next to each other. Apologies. In some ways that statement can be viewed that it formed part of my EDC at the time along with my wallet, knife and pistol and so on which I carried everyday.
I got a SKMEI a while ago for 6 bucks on WISH and it has become my favorite beat up watch , over my g shock and wrist armour . This watch was a great purchase
thanks for this awesome review, Ivan. a wonderful watch. I mean... a couple of frappuccino from starbucks will buy this watch. Of course, vast majority people would not be able to afford the real thing, so, it certainly dose give a good alternative for the people. As you said, I can not believe that is only $12.00 that means... manufacturing cost would be less than $5.00. Just amazing how they can produce somewhat quality watch at that pricing. Thanks again Ivan. and have a great day.
Yeah I find some of the prices they have these days jaw-dropping unbelievable... it's astounding how they can possibly do that... I wonder how many chickens (or larger animals) they had to sacrifice at some underground altar...! :)
To me if I want a beater watch, I’m not going to pay over $1000 for it. The purpose of a beater is to have something you don’t want to worry about getting it messed up. The SKMEI definitely fills the bill. If it does suffer damage it’s no big loss. Most of those extra functions are nice to have but you really do not use them that often. I thoroughly enjoyed this review, and I found it very informative! Keep up the good work!!!
Your G SHOCK looks great, I actually just bought a Mudman tonight, never seen the Mudmaster in person how does it wear, the reason I got the Mudman is for a G SHOCK they aren’t too large.
It wears like the biggest watch I have... because it truly is :) But somehow G-shock resin cases get away with it, and of course it really strictly for casual / outdoor / climbing through mud scenarios. Imaging wearing a 56mm steel watch... I would look like douche-bag for sure! :D If going for G-shock that are more modest, then I reckon some in the traditional GW-M5600 mould would be the way...
It appears that the Skmei back lighting is superior.....? You sort of blew through that comparison, maybe hinting I am correct? Sure, it's a disposable watch but nice backlighting is a great feature.
Yeah you're right, the back light is really quite good, but it seems to be a compensation for the very poor negative display visibility. The Mudmaster display you can still read in indoor light, and the back light certain comes into play in darkness... so it doesn't have to be anywhere near that good. The Skmei on the other hand you can hardly read indoors without having to use the light.
I own, collect and sell a lot of chinese watches. Regarding Sport/Military watches, theres nothing better than Skmei in that price range. I use a lot of em while working with heavy machinary, vibration and water cant do anything to them. The only con; the digital unit of some models lag behind 1-2 mins/6month, but the analog movements are very reliable (Seiko Epson AL35x as far as I can remember)…
@@PerthWAtch I disassemble them to reinforce some parts or glue spots. If you know how it works, you can make a better watch out of it. I have some models from 2015, still working fine…
I just bought a very similar model [1029]on amazon uk .Where skmei is written large on your one it says S-SHOCK and skmei is smaller ,on the dial. Will be a good daily beater I'm sure ..Idont use any of the features on my Mudmaster anyway so will make a change and wont miss anythibg lol
In india g shocks are really expensive like inr 45,000 just for a watch I own a g shock 5600 and it's of 110 dollars in india around inr 8000 it's expensive for us so skemie is a good choice and I own one too, I swim with it do my Martail arts and etc , it's tough watch .... it's been 3yrs now and it still works and is as good as new BTW love ur content ....
as long as they don't write g-shock on them ive got nothing against skmei. not sure if id get one to use as a watch, but they might be useful for the resin parts if they fit the real g-shocks. then again i would not want 'skmei' on a real gshock so that would leave just the strap to use which still might be a good deal.
Great choice of review! I have not got one of their range but have looked at Amazon feedbacks. They are sold as fashion watch's and it seems they don't keep good time? Some are branded as S_Shocks in fact.Other than that I can't make an opinion of my own? I would by default buy Casio though as they are flawless from my experience? Cheers,Len UK.
Thanks for that. Depends on what you mean by "fashion watch"... SKMEI may well be a full in-house manufacture which would not fit with many thoughts of what constitutes a "fashion brand". As for timekeeping, I think this day in age you would really have to try to muck that up with quartz... I've left this on the desk after filming the review 3 days ago and it's lost 1 second compared with internet atomic time (which I synced with). As for Casio, I'm not sure if I'd call them flawless but their quality is certainly excellent, and their products have bulletproof reliability. Cheers! :)
@@PerthWAtch Fair comment. When I mentioned Casio as flawless I was referring more to timekeeping daftly enough . I only have one Casio,an mrh 200 and that keeps better time than one second every 3 days? I have had quartz analagues that wander around a bit? I love budget for beaters and am tempted to buy one of these so I can make my own mind up. They look OK for sure and very my style? Cheers.
Cant write complains considering the price itself,it's understandable to buy SKMEI because at some Country for a basic Casio price would be blown up due to tax,well...get a watch we really like to impress ourself not other people.
I finally have this watch… I originally ordered it from the official store and never received the watch. They supplied a tracking number and said to contact the post office… It’s not a United States Postal Service tracking number. They basically said it wasn’t their problem. The order was placed on AliExpress and AliExpress did not back up the order either. The official store replies or sarcastic and they basically said they didn’t care.
Perth WAtch It never arrived. They never supplied me with a valid tracking number(It appears it was a ‘global’ tracking number. They kept saying check with my local post office. After several back-and-forth’s they basically told me it was my problem not theirs. It was their official store on AliExpress. AliExpress who claims to guarantee their orders. They Simply closed the dispute Saying I did not provide enough information but not saying what information I did not provide. I’ve ordered many things off of AliExpress so that was very disappointing. After more than two months I decided to get the watch from a third-party vendor And received it in two weeks.
Skmei is China's equivalent to Japan's Casio and they do a very good job. Had a Skmei 1122 and used it for manual work and swimmed with it with no problems. It proved to be surprisingly tough until finaly the rubber strap gave in. I gave it away still working without any problems.Still Casio is one of the best watch makers in the World and Skmei need to work harder to reach certain qualities, but for the money they are very good.
Thanks for sharing that - that's great to hear that their 50m rated watches make it through swimming, means that they might actually have pressure tested them properly! They are a far cry from being Casio equivalents, but hey for 2% of the price, they don't have to be :)
I have nothing against Skmei but calling them China's equivalent of Japan's Casio is insulting to Casio. Casio does its own R&D and design. Skmei simply copies Casio's design, chuck in some basic quartz movement and call it a day. That's why they can sell their watches for $12. They probably only have one person working in the "design department" busy copying Casio's case designs.
@@PT111111 I did not mean they 'are' Casio. Definitively not but within the Chinese manufacturers I think they come closest.Sorry for misinterpreting myself. Personally I love Casio and one of my most loved watches is the Casio MDV106.Thank you for your explenation.

Very nice - you should get them valued, it might be astounding! “Screwed” is relative... to some the value of a Casio is spare change. Likewise to you the Smael is spare change, but to the next person it might take saving a few months for.

My Skmei 1968 all black came in from Amazon yesterday. $18. I wanted to replace my Amritron 40/8356 watch I've been wearing since 12/21/2021. I wanted another Timex watch. But then I searched "Military watch" and I got a bunch of budget friendly results. $18 vs the $40 Timex I was about to get? I got to be better with money during these rough times. $18 got me a big wrist watch that is up there with G-Shocks. Rock n roll. Edit:I might get my brother a Skmei watch for Christmas.
Haha nice one. Super value for sure and yes, it’s a Mudmaster knockoff so it matches the size exactly… but performance wise? The price ratio is about the right proportion :)

You have to remove the straps first to get at the case back screws - then it's just a matter of opening it up and swapping the battery out. Check out my videos on the topic also :)
@@PerthWAtch How do u remove the straps? I tried to unscrew the 2 hexagon screw and unable to unscrew it. Next, i tried to pull out the 2 side straps and unable to fix back... Very lousy design for this watch. Next i have a couple of skmei watches but the clock hand do not last over a year. Although this brand is cheap n design is nice but better to get digital reading design then those with clock hand. :)
Take a look at the side screws - you remove those to remove the strap "spacers" I think... the hexagonal face screws are just decorative and don't have to be touched. Once the "spacers" are removed you can get at the case back screws.
@@PerthWAtch too bad.. the hexagon screws r reali the ones holding the straps in place. Its more of like a 1 way in type of screw. Good review buddy, cheers. For the price though pretty good I think right. Put it this way, I would rather scrape the $12 down a wall than a Mudmaster! ;)
Me too. But for in-hand substantial feel, actual resistances, proper functions, and of course just knowing you have the real thing… it’s the Mudmaster for me, and couldn’t find any reason to hang onto the fakes
I don't know much more about skmei movement but I witnessed much better design and resin quality than casio they use. I bought one for my son and he didn't respond as it is cheap even my son knew I collected so many expensive watches, overall nice watch and your work too.
Thanks for that - I do think the resin feels pretty darn good in hand. The actual functions of the watch are basic, but the overall feel for $12 is rather astounding!
Don't let the watch snobs convince you, Skmei watches are no good because they're economical to buy. I bet these watch snobs run down watches they have never held in their hand.
Hey, Ivan. Nice review. This watch looks like a alright alternative to the way more expensive Mudmaster. I ordered one of these Skmei watches a few hours ago (Blue variant). All the best.
No comparison at all the Casio will last way longer. We bought the skmei rangeman clones and there junk. Plus no solar or multi band. Spend the money on the real version
The world is a big place for many people $600 is simply not within range. I am happy that those who can put aside $12 for a watch have such options. Yep, Casio will last longer for sure... if it fails to do that for 50x the price, well, you'd say that bunch of their top execs should be taken out the back alley and summarily executed ;)
I’m definitely not a watch snob. I’m currently wearing a $15 Casio. You get the Casio if you want it to last and for the functions. They have a wide range of prices for G-shocks from $35 to thousands of dollars. Skmei doesn’t even try to be original at all. They are almost straight up copies and I’m a person that likes homage watches. They make a decent backlight, I’ll give them that but that’s about it. Buy the real thing people.
Casio rocks - I love Casio and I own this Mudmaster. But... it's a $600+ watch and that's not within everyone's reach. So if you like the look (or even as a test drive beater), it's good to see these choices :)
With a water rating of only 5ATM, why bother unless you are some office geek wanting to look tough. For the rest of us, it may last a day or two at most.
It's quite apparent to me that this product is really just for the looks, in which case 5atm suffices for the vast majority of usual day to day use overland. If being submerged in water, well yeah, it mar last a day or two... but short of that it should be ok.
I can see how someone would buy the Skmei. But the person that buys that watch doesn't NEED a Mudmaster. Besides, there are G-Shocks that look like the Mudmaster without the price but with the WR and other features. 🤷
It is apparent to me that this is mainly for the looks, with basic functionality. So if you wanted the GWG-1000 look (and nothing really looks the same, even the GG-1000 is rather different) without the price and don't need the features...
Sorry, but if they came up with their own design I wouldn’t mind, but to blatantly steal someone else’s design (to the T or “G” in this case) makes me despise them!! (Not sure on Casios patent with design etc) but wish they could sue and bankrupt them for copyright !, then they may come up with their own and would be happy for them if they did!👍🍻
Yep this is pretty much a blatant design copy, but as for so many other things China there seems to be no ability to enforce the issue (see the endless Rolex copies, and even full on counterfeit industry). I seem to recall that they do have some of their own designs, but they're not fantastic...
Oh yeah, smart watch style ones, I've reviewed some of those before. Quite a different type of watch though I would say, and I can't be bothered with them anymore, mainly coz of needing a phone to access functions, not to mention the charging.
Both look totally ridiculous on any wrist. The Casio is 50 times more expensive, so that is 50x more ridiculous in my opinion. Walk through the jungle with this monstrosity and get caught on a branch. It sticks out, it is dangerously big.
Skmei watches are better because you don't have to worry about it. Don't tell people what they won't be satisfied with. Just because it costs more, doesn't mean it's better.
@@PerthWAtch That's right.. I know a lot of people would be darn glad to have a Skmei watch.. Look at the overly high prices people pay for a MVMT or a Daniel Wellington watch in comparison.
Not sure about that... You can get a Casio for under $10 actually. This Mudmaster is a $600 watch but for that you're getting a suite of features that nobody else will give you at that price.

For real.
The skmei range is mostly casio clones and they do a good job, I like them and welcome to the clone party ivan 👍👍

I had a similar one for 4 years. I used it as a daily EDC watch. It performed well!
Do you know what EDC stands for?
Yeah. I can see how it might be confusing using both the word "daily" and "EDC" right next to each other. Apologies.
In some ways that statement can be viewed that it formed part of my EDC at the time along with my wallet, knife and pistol and so on which I carried everyday.

g shock and wrist armour . This watch was a great purchase
Thanks for sharing that - which model did you get?
How long has it lasted? 🤔
thanks for this awesome review, Ivan. a wonderful watch. I mean... a couple of frappuccino from starbucks will buy this watch.
Mmm frappacino.

Sorry to hear that 😂
To me if I want a beater watch, I’m not going to pay over $1000 for it.
Thanks for the positive feedback Stu, glad you enjoyed the video! :)

Your G SHOCK looks great, I actually just bought a Mudman tonight, never seen the Mudmaster in person how does it wear, the reason I got the Mudman is for a G SHOCK they aren’t too large.
It wears like the biggest watch I have... because it truly is :)
But somehow G-shock resin cases get away with it, and of course it really strictly for casual / outdoor / climbing through mud scenarios. Imaging wearing a 56mm steel watch... I would look like douche-bag for sure! :D
If going for G-shock that are more modest, then I reckon some in the traditional GW-M5600 mould would be the way...
@@PerthWAtch 100% agree. Great review!
As long as they keep good time and are comfortable enough to wear, I like them all...

People report that these sometimes fall apart when exposed to any stress, sometimes even with normal use. Seems like you are much luckier than some.
@@PerthWAtch I disassemble them to reinforce some parts or glue spots. If you know how it works, you can make a better watch out of it. I have some models from 2015, still working fine…

That’s awesome man, good to hear that it lasts that much!!
as long as they don't write g-shock on them ive got nothing against skmei.
not sure if id get one to use as a watch, but they might be useful for the resin parts if they fit the real g-shocks. then again i would not want 'skmei' on a real gshock so that would leave just the strap to use which still might be a good deal.
Hey that's a good idea, potential spare parts... the original straps are kinda ridiculously expensive to get at >$100!
I was totally going to avoid these but now you have me intrigued...
Haha, well good news is that they are easy on the wallet :)
@@PerthWAtch any chance you could try a torture test on it and see if it survives?

Oh dear, what terrible customer service! So did it arrive in the post eventually? Or did you reorder from somewhere else?

@@PerthWAtch Yes I assure that the Skmei 1122 was used for swimming regularly without problems. Thank you so much for your videos which I fully enjoy.

Hi, just a small question. How do you change the battery for this watch ?
You have to remove the straps first to get at the case back screws - then it's just a matter of opening it up and swapping the battery out. Check out my videos on the topic also :)
@@PerthWAtch How do u remove the straps? I tried to unscrew the 2 hexagon screw and unable to unscrew it. Next, i tried to pull out the 2 side straps and unable to fix back... I'd give them $25 if they put a little more effort in and made it at least 100m water resistant. That style watch is useless with 50m
That's good feedback for Skmei! :)
