Good job, guys! Stitching together beautiful shots with descriptive informative narration to tell your interesting story. And Lucy is captivating, there's just something about her! Okay, many things. I think you have a glow plug problem with that engine. Those are electric heaters in the cylinders serving to raise the temperature within to permit self-igniting. Typically there's a light on the dash to indicate active heating, once extinguished indicates ready to crank. A word to the wise, if you want that engine to last, don't be holding down the pedal and letting it spin up when starting cold. That's drastically accelerating wear. Keep it slow as possible as it warms up and internals expand to running spec if you don't want it wearing out or breaking prematurely. Cheers!
dunno if anyone gives a shit but if you're bored like me during the covid times then you can stream all of the latest series on instaflixxer. Been watching with my girlfriend these days :)
Nice video. I was there back in 1998 while serving with with the United States Army. I had volunteered to deliver food and supplies to refugees that were living in that hotel at the time. This video brought back so many memories for me. Thanks for sharing.
Awesome video! Sarajevo was the site of my favorite all time “rags to riches” story so hope you don’t mind me sharing. On February 16, 1984, “Bad Boy“ Bill Johnson became the first American man to win an Olympic gold medal in downhill skiing, a sport long dominated by European athletes. Johnson grew up poor in Oregon and was frequently in trouble as a child most notably for stealing cars. Despite his checkered past, the U.S. ski team gave him a shot and in January 1984, the little-known Johnson became the first American man to win a World Cup downhill race, at Wengen, Switzerland. After that win, Bad Billy boldly predicted he would take home a gold medal the following month at the Olympic Games in Sarajevo, Yugoslavia. To the amazement of the skiing world, the prediction came true when he beat Switzerland’s legendary skier Peter Muller for the gold. Two years later, my first son was born and he was appropriately named William “Bad Billy” Baldwin! Thanks for the awesome memory!
Wow thanks for sharing! What an interesting tale, we do love a good story. Have you ever visited Sarajevo? Can’t remember if you mentioned it before ☺️
Never been there but I’m quickly discovering my dream “Baltic van route” by following your travels. I’m saving up my money and hope to some day ship my camper van to Europe then “head east!” I also want to see the Tour de France and follow that circus around for 3 weeks or so. 🚐 🚴♂️ Thanks again for the inspiring and wonderful videos!
P.s. My son Bad Billy Baldwin sends his best regards. He’s a fine young man who eventually became a mechanical engineer after years of bouncing around with his snowboard in the Colorado mountains. 👍
Great video, I was a British soldier that served in Bosnia in 1994/5. Seeing Hotel Igman in the snow reminds me of my time there. I spent weeks sleeping outside the front of the hotel and remember the French Foreign Legion occupied the building itself. We didn't get on when they refused us the use of their washing facilities. The snow was our shower. Great vid, took me back !!
Wow, what an amazing story! Can't imagine how brutally cold that must've been 🥶 It was cold enough inside our van! Sarajevo must look so different now compared to then
What an amazing adventure! You are snow magnets. There were some really scary moments and you stayed calm. I would have been freaking out in some parts! Ha. Entropy is a wonderful thing and yes nature WILL reclaim the planet when we humans finally destroy one another. We don't need to save the planet. We need to stop hurting each other and save ourselves!
Thank you! Yeah not much phases us any more, we’ve seen a lot in the few years we’ve had our van 😂 Yes that’s very true, hopefully we can regain our balance with nature and stop destroying it before it’s too late
Your footage and trips just get better and better, thanks for letting us share your adventures. Not sure what it is about snow and people from the South West! we just never get to see it. Best wishes
Thanks so much! ☺️ Yes that’s definitely it, we almost never get snow down here (and never anything decent) so when we see snow we just go mad for it like little kids 😂
Hey guys myself and my wife are just completing another self build. Vids to be uploaded next few days. I'm a new subscriber but self build camper/motorhome traveler many years. Loved watching your videos. Eastern Europe is our next travel plans this coming winter and you have added a few destinations to out list especially this one. Stay safe guys and hope you watch our build when its uploaded
Hey thanks so much! Lovely to hear from you. Sounds like a great adventure you've got planned, make sure you insulate your van well as the Balkans can get pretty cold in the winter- enjoy your trip! 😊
@@FromRustToRoadtrip Yep we have proper insulated and have installed our LPG Propex heater from our last van also a 3kw diesel heater so we have a backup and fuel options if we struggle to get LPG.
Thank you for another brilliant video . You both manage to turn an adventure into fun and fun into an adventure . 🚐👍I realise you are home now so take care 😷
Super stuff guys, great narration and photography and Ben is clearly a closet rally driver. Received my sticker yesterday and will display it on our van asap.
Hey guys. your vids are amazing. Fantastic memories you have made and so skilfully crafted. Always excited to see what you're getting up to, so seriously WELL DONE. You are an inspiration! Thanks so much for entertaining us, you're awesome x
Loads of fun in the snow. 😁 Always carry a can of easy start or two, a blow torch into the air intake works as well. Hopefully you have it all fixed for this season's winter weather. 👍😎😁
Where did all the snow come from. I loved the old trick of spray in yhe manifold to jump start the engine. Awesome driving skills uphill and nothing beats a snowball fight! There can't be much more footage left before you had to return home. Perhaps an update video on future plans as we all need something to look forward to.
Haha well it got us home so that’s the main thing! We have another two videos to come and one of those is our crazy rush to get back to the UK before all the borders closed. We have big plans for the future so that would make a good video for sure ☺️
A lot of people wait for opportunities to come and knock on their door. Only few people like you step out to look for them. No wonder, you are a winner
Loved the hotel design. If that was in the UK it would be considered an architectural gem. I'm not sure nature will have reclaimed it in 25 years? After all, we have a lot of abandoned structures hundreds of years old still standing. Great episode!
We do seem to be a lot better at preserving our history in the UK than other countries who often try to erase it. It certainly was funky, can’t imagine how it must have looked when it was furnished and had walls. Most buildings would last a lot longer in time if they weren’t just cheaply built concrete monstrosities- we’ve been into some seriously old abandoned buildings like a 16th century monastery but it depends more on how long they’ve been abandoned for- 20 years or so seems to be about the mark when they become unsalvageable. As you can tell we’re quite into our urbex 😁
@@FromRustToRoadtrip Hahaha true!! Some want to eschew the past, even after well warned that those who don't know history are doomed to repeat it! Oh well... If wisdom dominated, just imagine how population would have grown... De todo mal no hay bien que no venga.
Hi guys, as always an awesome video and so glad to see you got some sponsorship for this video 👍 I'd be interested to see an update about your current position within the UK if that's something you would want to share. Thanks for the video 😀
Thanks so much! We’ll have a couple of videos coming out at the end of this series about our van repairs, Q&A and of course the Bedford project when we restart that over the summer ☺️
You were brave spending the night at that abondoned hotel, it looks really creepy! That building deserves only to be consumed by nature and have it's undoubtedly gruesome history buried forevermore.
Thanks so much! Haha we just can’t resist playing in the snow like little kids, it almost never snows in Cornwall so it’s a real treat for us 😋 Our van didn’t do too bad on those tracks but a 4x4 would take out the terror of being stranded somewhat
@@FromRustToRoadtrip I was going to email you about the war. Decided not to. The US is working hard to ferment a new Balkans war by destroying the Orthodox Church in certain states. I can't remember which state(s), but one might be Montenegro. The US & UK just can't help it.
Not too sure yet, the poor thing is falling apart and not driving too well. We’ll do a follow up video soon showing everything that’s wrong with the LDV. Hopefully we will be upgrading but won’t be this year as we’re going to finish the Bedford van conversion this year if all goes well.
From Rust to Roadtrip great stuff, love old Bedford’s, as well as my Transit that’s on my channel, I also have a Talbot express and absolutely love him 👍
Would probably be worth it if our van didn’t wobble so much off road anyway! It doesn’t need spark plugs though as it’s a diesel but definitely needs some new glow plugs
I think you have highlighted the other end if the spectrum of humanity here, an important statement for us all. This has haunted me for days. Your brilliant narrative, reflected in depths of ignorance and stupidity - inhumanity. An inverted symbol, monument to evil that is being slowly dissolved by nature, woefully too slowly. Just pray that the asinine causes are equally disappearing.
Thank you Clive- yes it’s quite impossible not to see and even feel the history around Sarajevo. These places have something very haunting about them, and unlike most wars Britain has taught in the Bosnian war was actually within our lifetime and still leaves it scars on virtually every generation
Great video as always, but there's just one thing a have to mention. It's Bosnia and Herzegovina, not Bosnia and Herzegovinia. You see the difference? :)
@@FromRustToRoadtrip Well, I'm pleased anyway. I visited Sarajevo last summer (2019) and if it wasn't for the virus I just might have traveled there this year too. I went by car from Žabljak via Pljevlja and Goražde. It was partly a quite scenic road but your route might have been even better.
