Fun topic for a video, Ben! I think the Pilgrim design is one of the best of all classic commems - and depicts the most beautiful ship. The 1921 version, to me, is a great value as well, as it has a much smaller mintage than many other commems with only a slight premium above the more available 1920 version.
Ben, I would have to agree with your choice of the Pilgrim half dollar. It's beautifully modeled in relatively high relief. I've never understood why the Norse medals are sometimes included as part of the classic commemorative series.
The Norse medal is by far the best of this bunch. The old canadian Voyageur dollar canoe has always been my favorite water craft on coinage. The ship on Canada's 1949 Newfoundland commemorative dollar is also better than any of these.
collecting the same ship commemoratives myself - got a pilgrim, columbian expo, long island - still looking for the rest (delaware, huguenot, norfolk and hudson (sorry rhode island, didn't make my list)... did Ben forget the 1935 Hudson too?
So I took a look at the absent Columbian Expo.50cent ,and find it comparable to perhaps the Norfolk? In terms of groovyness of design, or it's lack. The Rhode Island? Hmmm... looks to be more of a canoe or launch or something, not a proper ship in my opinion, so thumbs down on that one. The winner for me as far as being the most interesting looking would be the Norse American medal. But ahemm.... then we are also including medals!? Getting kind of loosey goosey with the criteria the are'nt we? Interesting and fun comparison. Thanks. "Puffy sails", or perhaps billowing?
Love the Norse medal - exactly my kind of thing. Thanks for showing them 👍
My pleasure!!
The Pilgrim is by far the winner. It’s such a beautiful and iconic coin.
Digging the Pilgrim. Thanks Ben.
Pilgrim was my No. 1.
The Hudson Commemorative ship is my favorite!

I'm gonna take the wild guess of saying because it's classic and a commemorative; it's just not a coin.
This is my favorite video lol I love coins with ships, and I can't lie, lol
The difference in the sails is only a forward view of a full sail and the sail at a reverse show of wind in the sail.
The Pilgrim is a great coin. Not including the canoe with the ships is probably a good call lol.
I agree with this ranking 👍🏻
Hey Ben!

Have to go with the Viking overall.
*1936 Delaware looks like the ship is going to sail right off the coin*
Hi, Ben
I wonder why some of the PCGS slabs don't have a date on them. PCGS you got one job lol
Coins on ships are great 🚢⚓😊

I don’t know if i had. A Hudson
Pilgrim #1 for me
Hi Ben, I would include the Oregon Trail Commemorative with the Praire Schooner and pick that one as the winner.

Good call!
Billowing sails look best.

That's a washing machine.
Hey Ben
Would space-ships count?
Wood spaceships ? 🚀 😆
