- During the Chicago Movement for Freedom (ca. 1965-1967), Mahalia Jackson joined her friend Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., when he was preaching a sermon about justice and equality at Church. Jackson, who is known as the "Queen of Gospel Music", sang the spiritual "Joshua Fit / Fought the Battle of Jericho".

Look closely at Martin’s face. Almost instantly when he heard Mahalia’s voice, he started smiling. That’s the affect&conviction that her voice had&still to this very day how ironic in so many decades after her passing. Them folks was in there having some good CHUUUUCH ‼️The Legendary 1st Crowned Queen of The Gospel⛪️👑RIP🕊🌹
It's also the song she chose to sing. She's basically saying "God chose him to lead his people into freedom" she's giving him her blessing basically. Well lead the people of the church to freedom... everyone else gets thrown out.
I thought it was just me saw his face when she start singing. Amazing 👏 Man and lady of God.

The fact this has millions of views and that so many people want to fall asleep listening to God's word is absolutely heart warming and soul refilling. God bless each and everyone of you, in Jesus name, Amen 🙏

I feel so bad in my heart, 😭. White supremacists and racists made Luther King life a hell on earth, every day was a struggle. A struggle just to put across what is obvious and right, that all men are created equal and should be treated equal. Just that, and they made him a kill target, made him an enemy.
Don't we know we are children of same God, color variations are just a way of beauty in His garden of flowers.

My grandmother loved Mahalia's voice. I think that is why she encouraged me to sing the Gospel. Thank you, grandma! What a good speech/sermon to hear on a Sunday evening.

This the best thing I think I have ever seen. So much joy in that room, and such a hard battle they were fighting. I feel unworthy even watching this. The absolute joy on her face after she starts singing and could see Dr King smiling….her heart was just filled with the power of God.
