One thing I always like about your work Adam is that your a die hard console fan like myself. Many of the bigger youtubers are all really into the whole "LOL PC MASTER RACE" type scene and are hard to relate to. Same age, same love of dreamcast, same console passion, easy to connect with you as a viewer. Keep up the amazing work!
DreamcastGuy you guys both RULE!!! I don’t feel alone about loving Consoles more and physical media because of you two. I even made a show inspired by Adam called Childhood Consoles on my gaming channel. He’s even seen it!
dunno if anyone cares but if you are stoned like me atm then you can stream all the new series on instaflixxer. I've been binge watching with my brother recently :)
Well, in regards to Sony, they do develop games internally. When the PS2 was dominating Sony bought out many studios, and created more from the ground up. They were mostly rebranded in the last 3 years to Sony [Location] Studio. None of them are third parties being commissioned by Sony, with the Sony brand slapped over the top, they are Sony. It's a small point, but yeah.
Adam, seriously, your insight is tremendous. You have a great gift for creative and constructive criticism. The console developers should be paying you millions! It would have saved them a shitload. Thanks for your passion, and time. This has been a great series
Andy Decoy Yes, you're a gamer first and a consumer second. Admirable, but you don't represent everyone. Platforms need exclusives to make people invest in them as opposed to others. It's just common sense.
Just curious to see if Bayonetta 2 and Smash Bros will boost the sales of the WiiU. Besides that I think Microsoft has a good chance to close the gap on the PS4 this christmas. Sony has almost nothing out right now that is exclusive
I remember the time when i used to get excited about checking out the next generation of consoles. The first one that blew my mind was the Sega Dreamcast. I had a Saturn at that time but when i walked upon Sonic Adventure, that was it. I needed it, the bright colors, crisp "rival to reality" how sega called it graphics and how tiny it was. Then the Xbox came and I got that due to how it closely it resembled the Dreamcast. But the excitement of checking it out was memorable. The last exciting one or memorable was the 360. It had me drooling on my tv screen when that g4tech tv show icons showed this iconic episode on its breath in breath out design. The 8th gen is no longer exciting to me, its like that spirit of gaming is gone. Or maybe im just getting older (28 in a few days) but its sad to see what the future looks like.
Spencer Hosch I'd like them to, but at least the Saturn was popular in certain parts of the world. Most notably Japan where it kicked amazing amounts of ass. Sega didn't go bankrupt, what are you talking about? They're a 3 billion dollar plus corporation and continue to see rising profits every year.
Really looking forward to your gaming history videos, you know a lot, and you're so natural about it, you can keep talking eternally about consoles, and what's better is that you don't even need a script. You address every point there is and manage to do them in an order that seems highly educative and entertaining. Congrats to you for this ability of yours, I'm glad you put it in good use by doing these videos. I hope this channel takes off!
Thanks for your work on these videos. Very down to earth "reviews", and I love how open and to the point you are. Its tough filtering through the fanboy shit, and actually getting down to the gritty facts and details. While I will get all 3 consoles like I always do, but your Wii U argument won me over by far. Gonna be my first foray into the 8th Generation. 1. Great EXCLUSIVE games. 2. It actually plays games off the disc. I fucking hate that you have to install games to the hard drive on the other consoles. I,m already a PC gamer, I don't want that shit on my consoles too! That's why consoles existed in the first place, quick easy ways to play video games! Plus, I dont believe in digital games. Thanks again. You have always provided the best No Bullshit reviews, and I respect the hell out of you for it.
Thanks, as always, for the awesome insights. I'd like to point out that Microsoft acquired Nokia for the smartphone market and that the latest Internet Explorer is actually a decent if not one of the best current browsers, I personally used it out of curiosity and I like it a lot, never crashed on me.
The xbox one has been my primary console so far. I use my xbox one way more then my PS4. I also bought it launch day with the kinect. To be honest I don't mind the kinect. The biggest thing I use it for is to activate the QR codes, because I'm lazy. Despite it being weaker then the PS4 I still play my 3rd party games on it. The xbox one controller feels better to me then the PS4 controller. At first I got a little bent out of the shape with the whole resolution being lower. But I went and got Metal Gear Solid for both the PS4 and Xbox one. I played them side by side and thought the differences were minor. In some cases I had hard time telling the difference. In the end I think achievements as stupid as they are, has me still connected to the xbox brand. Even then I have been really enjoying my xbox one alot, and don't regret being an early adopter paying $500. I was just tired of my xbox 360 and I just wanted something new. As far as a console I do see microsoft releasing one more console. I think the next console will be backwards compatible with all of the previous consoles. I could see a microsoft store where you can purchase digitally every generation of xbox games and play them on their new console.
I'm from the future and the HDMI input is still on the Xbox One S and Xbox One X (Scorpio). Not only that, but backwards compatibility is now available and you can play Xbox 360 games and even original Xbox games!
I was tempted to get the xbone due to killer instinct as I am a massive beat-em-up fan (which is why I personally liked the dreamcast as their beat-em-up library was MASSIVE) but I refuse to buy a console for one game. If there were potentially more games that interrested me on the xbone then yes I would get it but atm there just isn't. This is the same thing that happened with me and the WiiU. For a long time there just wasn't any game that peaked my interrest. However that changed with Nintendo dropping game after game after game so I picked one up. Oh hum... maybe time to start bulking out the old N64 library again.
28 in a couple of weeks? Not on December 2nd I take it. Im 28 in a few weeks as well ha ha. I got an XBone not long ago, the place I was working at (a surplus store that sells damaged stock from Costco) had one come in, turns out someone had ordered it but never picked it up (it was a launch unit) and so, when that got cancelled they sent it to us as tho it was damaged stock. Opened it up, all perfect condition, never opened, 12 months free xbox live. Paid $200 for it. That said, in the last 2 months since I got it I have only turned it on twice... I have Forza 5 since it came with it and Titanfall since work also had some copies of it come in ($20 brand new, good deal once again), but haven't put any time into either. Not in the financial position to be picking up new games for it.
It would be sweet to do another video on the Dreamcast about the development of the Dreamcast and it’s add ons that never saw the light of day. And various facts about the Dreamcast. Segaaaa!
I love my x1 and am really excited for the future of it. I think they are backed up against a wall now and have to deliver us what we want. Kinda like the husband that cheated on his wife with drm and now has to make it up to her.
I'm close to your age bro, I love achivos. Don't forget you save 3 percent once you get to 75k gamer score. Dlc savings for what you really can't get physical
This channel is growing fast and i think the reason is that people want quality and not the 1000th video of the top 10 of this and that, or fanboys hating against everything and thats 90% of gaming channels, besides unpacking and lets plays. So i hope this channel wont change, keep doing your thing and dont became too much mainstream ;)
I watched the Xbox One reveal event, and it was the worst console event, of any kind, that I've ever seen. Still, I just don't understand why some people are still angry at them, when they've changed what we as gamers didn't like. I love the "Control Freak" t-shirt, BTW! That's awesome!
Yeah, but how much of a difference can people really see depends on how big of an HDTV they have. To notice a difference between 900p and 1080p would require a pretty big HDTV.
David Halligan Doesn't matter, it's all marketing dude. It's almost like politics. Be technically right, even if it has little practical use, and you crush the opponent.
True, good points. Regarding backwards compatibility with Xbox 360 games, could Microsoft add that in with a software update, or would the Xbox One have have some physical components inside it to make it work?
Great video Adam, so here's my take as PC Gamer: Your analogy of "I have a reason to buy this" doesn't works because of the tremendous disparity on both the much better quality (potentially) on the PC and the price and convenience of the PC (Let's face it: Steam is pretty damn convenient and brutal when it comes to price and delivery digitally, if you're willing to go digital it's miles ahead of xbox live for that) If the level playing field was more equal I'd agree but it's like comparing 2 completely different console generations or worst and even then PC gamer ends up being cheaper factoring in what you pay for games when they're heavily discounted. Though you're exactly right about finding interesting new games not just bribing a big name title for Exclusivity rights, games like Star Citizen on the PC that are crowd funded and still miles ahead of anything on the consoles can potentially ruin Microsoft's shit in a hurry if they don't understand this and work with indies and smaller guys and MAKE em big
Are you referring to the report Microsoft put out that included their units produced? That wasn't about consoles sold to customers, it was about units sent to stores.
AdamKoralik No I'm not. Most of every sale source that is not Microsoft has officially said that the Xbox One has sold more than the Wii U officially. Sold, not shipped. But still the Xbox One is worldwide 6.8 million behind the PS4. So still, they will never win.
You are worried about the Xbox One's future! have you been looking at the sales recently! Sony has been found out! all hype no content! good luck selling The Last of Us and GTA V bundles! that says a lot about the games available on the system! i should know i have both Next Gen consoles! and i prefer the Xbox One, just my opinion! i'm looking forward to next year, many great games coming out for both systems, looking at what is coming next year, i think the Xbox One will have a stronger year! i'm curious to see what happens with Direct X 12 and Windows 10 i enjoy the videos, keep it up! it's all about discussion and opinions! :)
AdamKoralik No problem Adam, you have really good content, and present you're videos very well, good to see older generation consoles being discussed too! :)
Last gen of consoles soured me forever. I am now a PC gamer and it took a while to transition over but all I have to do is upgrade my hardware every 5 to 7 years.
I really hope you do another one of these for this year. A lot has changed over the past year and into this holiday season. Interested to see your thoughts on both, I'm finally going to be getting a PS4 for myself over the next month!
I love your videos so far. You're knowledgeable and informative, without seeming pretentious or condescending. You have your opinions while still respecting the opinions of others. I don't agree with you on everything, but I think that's part of the draw of your channel. You can have differing viewpoints and still remain civil.
This video hits on so many points that made me wait until just two weeks ago to get the Xbox One, after buying the last two gens on or around the release dates. I was expecting a system that would literally let me pull my 360 off my component rack and stick the Xbox One in its place and keep going without missing a step.
I've already lowered my expectations and come to terms with the fact I will need my 360 indefinitely. I'm not sure if you touched on this fact, but the Xbox One hasn't been as capable as the 360. It recently got media playing capabilities like the 360 has, but it still doesn't (and never will) have access to Windows Media Center. If you look at my TH-cam videos, you'll see I was using that to watch cable TV in my home (vs paying $20 per month per DVR). I've had to rethink my entire setup.
Elemino Musgrove I also kind the 360 versions of apps like Netflix and TH-cam, for whatever reason, are vastly better. Generally more stable and have features the XBox One versions don't. Why this is, I don't know.
I love this channel man its great... As a PC gamer i feel differently about playing and developing games as most console gamers would agree. The reason i enjoy your channel so much is that you give insight into the actualities of console hardware AND software, as well as your opinions about such. I'm super exited to check out your other channels and also hope that AdamKoralik will continue producing videos w/o having to rely on new consoles to provide content in which to critique upon. I appreciate your opinions and hope you are able to continue doing so (+1 subscriber gained).
I finally got to watch the rest of this video & I think I will keep the rest of my opinions to myself but I did like the last 10 min of it, at 48 ive been a gamer for over 25yrs so I think this will be my last gen of gaming but it dosent mean I wont stop collecting games for the previous generations but keep up the good work & i look forward to watching more of your videos :) Cheers mate
Excellent point on exclusives. I am a long time PC gamer, and I have to say, the only recent consoles I own are a PS3 and a PS Vita. Why? Because I love importing games and visual novels from Japan, and because these games are "Exclusive" to Sony's consoles. I am a Sony Guy. I'll probably get a PS4 in a year or two when they release more Japan-only exclusives for it. Excellent points, good talk as usual. Keep it up Adam.
I understand that I'm sort of the fringe user who actually uses the xb1 the way I think MS intended when they announced it. (i.e. tv functionality, all of my games are digital versions, I use my kinect almost exclusively for cable and tv control.) So perhaps im biased but i dont seem to get whats not to like about the xb1. Before on the 360....i had to constantly keep track of discs that often ended up in cases for other games, got too scratched up to read, and i could only ever play whichever game was in the tray. Now i have no cumbersome library of games that are taking up space on a shelf. Only 3-5 of which are actually in circulation at any one time. Noone plays their entire library on a consistent basis. When one game drops we play it until its lost its 'newness' or until the next highly anticipated title drops then we move on so by the time 4-5 new titles have dropped, that first game you purchased hasnt been played in months... I can switch between digital titles instantly with a voice command. I dont understand the obsession with hard copies in the Itunes era. The gaming industry seems to be one of the only ones that users have not made the full leap into digital distribution just yet. Music and Movies are far ahead in this space. Now I now what most are thinking....HDD space! Yes you can fill up 500 GBs quick if your entire library is digital, however like I said before....I havent played Titanfall since a few months after its release so I uninstalled it with the knowledge that if I ever get the itch to play it again, its a download away. I feel freedom with the xb1. Granted its had some things that have bugged me as well. I wasnt thrilled about no backwards cap, or Media Player(at launch). But monthly updates have continued to improve the console. I am a very satisfied customer. Why are so many people upset? P.S. an often undiscussed feature is the Play to Streaming feature. With the xb1, I have the ability to stream movies straight to my xb1 from my PC.
I'm sure someone else already posted this, but it's funny how EVERYONE was saying, "it would be awesome to have backwards compatibility, but we know it probably won't happen." But now it's coming. I understand it was COMPLETELY unexpected, but everyone was so sure. But it's a good thing; we got what we wanted.
You said it 21:00. Backwards compatibility. PS3's in the first run with PS and PS2. Wii U with Wii games. I have all the consoles to play them, but it is just nice to have the option to have a few consoles to run all the games. So when you have the itch to play a game, you don't have to have an elaborate multi console set up to play a game.
Ryse, Dead rising 3 are already on PC (saw both on Steam for 30 a piece) and Sunset Overdrive is yet another title that will be destined for PC via Steam (though my apologies I noticed you said it in the video :) ). I do agree with consoles needing their exclusives to keep their platform interesting. good vid Adam and happy gaming :) .
How fitting that on the eve of its one year anniversary, the Xbox One has surpassed the Wii U in worldwide sales. I was honestly surprised that it managed to keep its momentum for that. Could this mean the two consoles will be duking it out in numbers for the next few years?
Hi Adam. Love your channel. A few days ago you made a video about the first year of the ps4. Your biggest problem with it was the fact that it only comes with a 500gb hard drive, but as far as I know the problem is not as big as you made it out to be. I'm pretty sure you can just replace it with a bigger one (doesn't have to be an external one which would require an extra power supply). Please correct me if I'm wrong. That being said, keep up the good work Adam!
My biggest problem with it is that it doesn't support external drives. I know you can swap the internal drive, I even said so in the video. I quite simply don't find that to be sufficient. Thanks for watching!
***** External harddrives allow me to download content, install content, and store content without ever having to reenter my account information. I don't have to redownload patches, install games all over again. I also don't have to have a stack of internal drives that I have to memorize which games are on which and hope they're all up to date. Swappable internal drives are nice, but absolutely insufficient for the long run.
I just have to say... WOW. I am not a gamer, nor do I have or plan on buying a current generation console, I am not a PC gamer either. All I have is a Nintendo 3DS because of nostalgia and Smash Bros (and also a few hidden gems I have found while waiting for Smash). When it comes to brands, I would totally defend Nintendo all day long. Again, nostalgic reasons. I LOVE the fact that you are not biased in this generation. I don't talk smack about Sony nor Microsoft because I know that they are amazing at what they do. I hate fanboyism (if that is even a word). Adam, your three videos that I have watched have taught me SO MUCH about the current generation and the path gaming consoles are taking. I've learned the struggles, the pros the cons A LOT. Even though I am not a gamer doesn't mean I don't pay attention to video games, I grew up with the NES and the SNES and always find interesting what is becoming of video games today and hey, maybe one console will one day catch my attention (Like the GameCube did). You sir have earned a new subscriber! Love your videos dude, keep up the good work!
The Xbone is actually only 3 months old where I live, cause Microsoft wanted to "Make sure it was ready for the specific markets" Even though they couldn't even be bothered to make the Kinect understand my Language AND preventing me from selecting English (Which I wanted to in the first place) Region locking a language select. Brilliant work M$ So my Kinect is basically even more of a paperweight than your's ;)
Ever think of porting your audio to a podcast, I think it would translate pretty well, and the subjects you talk about are interesting. I would definitely subscribe if you had a podcast.
Funny to hear your thoughts about exclusive Xbox One games considering that the majority of them I can play on my PC. What do you think about the Xbox Play Anywhere program?
I remember being excited about new consoles. The SEGA Saturn for instance, where I could play all those model 2 amazing arcades at home! Or the Dreamcast, the same amazing arcades and crazy Japanese games at home. Console games back then were so unique and so different then the pc games that were also really fun but on its own way... But nowadays and since the last gen, they are all the same... Pc games and console ones... Where has the fun gone ?
They make Forza. It's legit the only reason I want an Xbone. Also, for those wondering about the Windows naming scheme, the reason they're jumping from 8 to 10 is because calling it Windows 9 would cause an insane amount of programs to stop working due to the way code refers to older OS iterations. (specifically '95, and '98.)
Loved this series of vids. Looking forward to next years. I agree completely with you on the backwards compatibility. If XBONE could play games from all 3 Xbox consoles It would never get unplugged in my household. As it is now there is no point in me having one.
brand loyalty is weird concept to me. If you have it then You're basically telling a company "I'm buying your products no matter what, it doesn't matter how good or bad they are, I'm in your corner and you've got my money". On the other hand Without a good solid foundation of brand loyal idiots who can't think for themselves, would any of these companies have the capital to make these really expensive AAA titles? Sure More money doesn't necessarily equal a more fun game, but it doesn't hurt to have the cash to fund development. Especially if that company really puts the money to work for the good of the game and doesn't just pocket it to please their wallets/stockholders. A bigger budget almost always equals a more graphically appealing game, and graphical design is a huge component of what makes a game appealing, whether you want to believe it or not. In some cases, it makes a mediocre game tolerable, and a good game even more enjoyable. but that's a different debate. Brand loyalty/fanboyism, not so sure its a good thing for the consumer. The only thing I'm sure of is that it benefits the company.
im a pc gamer. I have a 980 ti i7 blah blah blah......I went out an bought an xbox one for sunset overdrive lol.... i really wanted to play it despite the meh reviews it looked fun, and it was :D an i'll buy it again if it ever comes out for pc.
A lot of good points here, I have an xbox one. I am truly thinking of buying a PS4, since I have heard so many good things. Great stuff!! subbed and liked!
What games would you buy on the ps4? I have the ps4, Xbox one and the wii u, and I play the ps4 the most due to one reason. Most of my friends play ps4 and I'm really into games like destiny where I can play with my friends, I only have two friends who has an Xbox one. (I only have 3 games: COD AW, shadow of mordor and halo MCC). The problem I have now is: i spent over 500 dollars for 3 games and only one of them is an Xbox exclusive. (I might buy sunset overdrive and tomb raider and possibly other Xbox exclusives in the future). Sad that rise of the tomb raider is an Xbox (timed) exclusive. I prefer it on the ps4!
Great points Adam. If Microsoft could have the sort of relationship they had with Sega back in the day I'd be on board (even though many of those titles were probably planned Dreamcast games in the first place). I've yet to pull the trigger for a new console yet but I'm probably just going the way of the PS4 & Wii U.
Adam, you're my favorite peasant of all time. I respect that you're a console gamer and that's how you like playing games, I was too before I saw the light. I just want to say that a gaming pc can be made for cheaper than a current console, and will perform better (and for much longer) before needing to upgrade, unlike a console. AND! I must stress that multiplats on pc and some really good steam games can be played with a controller on pc. You don't even need to get a special pc controller to play with one on pc, just grab your dusty old 360 controller and plug it in, I say 360 controller because it is superior to the playstation controller in every way. You probably already know all of this but I feel that other peasants should know this as well. I also want to say that I have nothing against consoles at all. I love my ps3, I use it to watch netflix all the time. Anyway, your videos are awesome, please keep up the good work, PCMR!
Achievements aren't completely pointless, on Live Rewards depending on your gamescore you do get a cash rebate on Marketplace purchases, but I think the main reason for achievements instead of just an ego thing is that its like a checklist so you can try and finsh as much of the game as possible
The counting for Windows versions is actually counting the number of publicly released NT kernel versions. 1. Windows NT 3.1 2. Windows NT 4.0 Workstation 3. Windows 2000 (NT 5.0) 4. Windows XP (NT 5.1) 5. Windows Server 2003 (NT 5.2) 6. Windows Vista (NT 6.0) 7. Windows 7 (NT 6.1) 8. Windows 8 (NT 6.2) 9. Windows 8.1 (NT 6.3) 10. Windows 10 (NT 10.0 - as of the latest leaked build, formerly 6.4)
You made a really good point when you said that this gen needs backwards compatibility because last gen was so successful. It also went on much longer than a console generation usually does so there were more games released than normal. The only console of this gen with backwards compatibility is the Wii U. I personally really wish my PS4 had it because I missed out on the PS3 and there were some fantastic games even in just like 2013 that I wish I could have played, let alone across the whole span.
Do you think there is any feasible way to add in backwards compatibility now, a year down the pike? Would we have to wait for a new model, could a software update do it, or would they have to put out digital versions of older games on their various online shops (like Nintendo does with Virtual Console)? I'm not really very well versed in how something like that could function. Basically, short of actually buying a PS3, how could Sony make it so I, a PS4 owner, could play Ni No Kuni (as an example)?
darthlobster PS3 and 360 compatibility, no. PS1, PS2, and OGXB, yes. But they won't. I even asked Major Nelson (XBox rep) directly to his face about that, and he said there was no way. For what it's worth, they'll probably drop the price of the PS3 and 360 some time in 2015.
Edit: by the way i love kinect. Not for playing games but to switch besides aps and games or to turn off the console. Everybody know the situation when you have the perfect position on the couch and you recognize that the remote controll is far far away on the other couch site. With kinect you dont have to move, just use the kinect voice controls and everything is fine :)
I enjoyed using Kinect on my 360. It gave me voice commands for watching videos, and Fruit Ninja was probably the only game I really used it for. It was annoying how it would detect me moving my hand while I was watching a video. Just having anything overlay on the image while watching a movie - unless I do it on purpose - is annoying. Since I was using my XBox 360 mainly for media instead of games, getting a Roku killed my interest in my 360 except for only a few games. I was mainly playing retro games on it anyway - Soul Calibur, Crazy Taxi, and Battlezone. I couldn't justify the cost of the LIVE membership to stream movies when I got the same services except XBox Video on the Roku for no additional cost. I sold my stuff before they changed the requirement for streaming. I also needed money at the time, but out of all of the consoles I've owned, I regret selling it the least. I missed my Dreamcast and GameCube more. I got a Wii U, and I've replaced my Dreamcast. I plan on replacing my GameCube next. However, I will admit the XBox 360 controller is a favorite and have one on my PC. I also love the Wii U Pro controller. I guess I'm more of a Sega and Nintendo fan. I also love my Windows Phone. They would have to discontinue it for me to stop using it. I have all of the apps I need.
I purchase all consoles at launch for exclusives, so this video hits home for me, even as a crossover PC/console gamer. However - the XB1 caters to me in very direct ways: 1) I love Halo - and I don't care about online play AT ALL. I literally bought the MCC just to play co-op with my fiance. 2) I love Forza 5, and don't care for Horizon 2. I am the exception here. 3) I dream of a GoW collection or another GoW game in general. Great video!
Cherokee Joe I'm exactly the same. I'm primarily a pc gamer but I buy consoles for exclusives and some titles that I think work better on console like party/family games and fighters. I did buy both ps4 and xbox at launch wich was way to early for any of them. None of them is on par with pc in any regard for multiplats, especially shooters, so most of my gaming is on pc, but if I could only choose 1 console between xbox one and ps4, it would be ps4 because imo God of war and uncharted is better than than the xbox alternatives (not into racing sims and I have a problem with halo because it is a fps, and I can't play fps games with a controller, that only leaves gears wich is good but not good enough given that choice). And ps4 also historically have a more varied gaming library and bigger jrpg collection so overall it wins me over in that department. But the biggest reason is like Adam said... being a pc gamer there isn't really much the xbox one can offer so far... most of it's exclusives end up on pc and every single one of them, even the "shitty ports" are superior than the xbox one version of the same games. And even the ps4, as much as I enjoyed the Infamous games the only games that have truly justified my ps4 purchase so far is Bloodborne and MKX (yes I know MKX is multiplat but it is a fighter wich I prefer on console AND the ps4 version is one of the very rare console version of a game that is actually better than the pc version, the pc version has alot of black crush going on currently). Both consoles has disappointed me.
That was very well put sir and you basically just confirmed my choice for me, I mean two of my friends have them and to this day they still have problems with the kinect. My profile is set up on both and it takes on average about 30 to 45 minutes of me being in the room to recognize me, it doesn't even switch have profiles when we switch controllers. It's supposed to be an all in one console but has been failing. My friend has trouble launching games sometimes, using party chat, continuing paused games. Also as you mentioned there aren't really any games exclusive to Xbox One that make me want it. The games I want to play are either multiplatform or on PS4. It just doesn't seem like a sensible investment so far.
BS. If he never liked it he could of bought a keneitless bundle, that's what i did yesterday! I've had the PS4 since launch. I must say I'm really enjoying the X1.
Frank Hughes He bought it fairly close to the launch date and he still loves it and actually loves the kinect but it doesn't seem worth it to me because he's had more issues with it than it has helped and it is often easier and faster to just use the controller instead of sitting there for 5 minutes yelling at it. I do like the Xbox one but I really really want to play the PS4 exclusives, I also feel like Playstation has overall had better single player/Primarily storymode based games. I feel like most of the time playing xbox for me isn't that fun unless im playing with friends mostly cuz the games themselves don't bring me that much joy and satisfaction after a while. I feel I get through the story too quickly because there's often not a lot of substance and get too bored to replay.
Just watched your xbox one 6 years later video. Had to come back and check out the 1 year later. Isn't it crazy that Microsoft are doing a lot of the things you proposed. Do backwards compatibility , they did. "Heck even the original xbox" they did. Go buy studios and make your own exclusives … they bought 16 studios. Ever wonder did they see your video and they were like , okay this is the feedback we needed. Listen to what this guy is saying and make it happen lol
The saving grace as a XB1/PC owner... Dead Rising 3 port on PC is not very good. So while it may not be an XB1 "exclusive" any more, the better version is STILL on XB1. On paper, it looks bad, but once you experience DR3 on PC and XB1, the educated gamer will know, the best experience for that game is on XB1, and we're seeing MORE and MORE console to PC ports that aren't very good. But I will agree, at this moment, there isn't a solid reason to own an XB1 if you own a gaming PC.
14:08--Makes the "single console" model of the 3DO sound like an even better idea. Why the hell should we have a Wii U for some games, an Xbox One for others, and a PS4 for others? Just have ONE console manufactured by different companies! There'd still be competition; it's just be different. LG, Samsung, etc., would make the actual systems according to certain specifications, just like the 3DO. All the game companies would have to worry about is releasing good games for it instead of multiple consoles. You wouldn't have the hassle of having some systems that are too hard to program for anymore. No exclusives on different systems, no bullshit.
I've had an XB1 since just after launch and I have to admit I feel compelled to swap it for a PS4. I had the original XBOX until the 360 came out, then kept the 360 and got an XB1, so I am not really a Sony guy but I still feel the need to consider selling the XB1 to see if the PS4 is any better. There have been several things with the XB1 that have annoyed me. Firstly the patches are huge for lots of games, and for pretty much all the games I have I cannot play without an internet connection - despite Microsoft saying you wouldn't need a connection all the time. Some games - eg. Titan Fall is online only - meh, what ever happened to offline campaigns? Most of my friends have jumped to PS4 from the 360... The interface on XB1 is aweful. There are bugs all over the place related to the party system, which often means we spend 30 mins a night messing around trying to form a working party in order to play a game with friends. The free games with gold are complete crap. Finding it near impossible to get Call of Duty AW to connect to XB LIVE at the moment - Is it a server issue, is it a bug, no idea but its the only game not working on XB1 at the moment. Finally, today Microsoft send me an email with reward to say thanks for being an owner over the last 12 months, what do they send me but a crap desktop theme... Thanks Microsoft but no thanks. If I can convince my 2 friends on XB1 to swap to the PS4 I will be following them.
There is no one on TH-cam more console savy, or console knowledgeable than Adam! I don't game exclusively on console. But my gaming PC is in high demand around here and my gaming time on PC is rather restricted. So I am often regulated to my HDCRT TV and the consoles for much of my gaming. Adam was saying we need a reason to buy a Xbone, but the PS4 is in the same boat. There isn't a whole lot on it. I picked one up for Final Fantasy XIV, which I also play on PC. That and I enjoy playing quality Japanese console games. If it weren't for FFXIV I wouldn't be owning a current generation console at all. I do like the PS4. It runs FFXIV like a champ, and playing with a controller in a over stuffed swivel chair is comfy! Looking forward to playing some good single player games for it.
I actually asked a tech guru that I have on my radio show from time to time that same question about Microsoft and Windows counting. He said Windows 8.1 was supposed to be Windows 9 but because of all the problems Windows 8 had they decided to call it 8.1 then skip to 10.
Now that they are doing backwards compatibility with the one are you going to switch back over? Also I think a yearly update for 8th gen consoles would be good. A lot has changed in 2015
I too found the name confusing at first, and I'm not saying I think it's a good name for a console, but I at least think I understand the logic behind it. I don't look at it as a reboot for the Xbox brand. I think the name originates from the concept that the Xbox was intended to be THE ONE component in people's home entertainment system, to rule everything. The main hub, or whatever. All the other components were meant to run through it. Does that make sense? I might be completely off..
well 343 industries (that creates Halo) and Black Tusk Studious (Gears of War) are two companies owned and created by Microsoft Game Studious. And they're already paying a studio to produce game only for xbox and that is Rare
Adam I love you and I'm happy i found your channel on TH-cam. (found it through how to clean a Sega genesis) but I don't see many videos from you on the genesis. Why is that?
Hi Adam, I'm not really into gaming that much anymore but I have enjoyed binge watching your videos lately haha, I thought it was interesting when you were talking about caring about achievements and not about trophies, I was wondering what you thought of the idea of sony or microsoft offering money rewards/discounts in their online stores for players accumulation of trophies/achievements. I know you personally wouldnt have much use of this as you don't support digital, but as you have mentioned you don't represent the majority of the market in that respect. I'll use the playstation to explain as I dont have any experience with xbox because the playstation has been my console of choice ever since I grew up with the ps1, but theoretically the same idea could apply to the xbox. Sony could offer players money added to their playstation store wallet for the trophies they obtain through playing games. They could even create a new tier of (more challenging?) trophies that would be the only trophies that can give any monetary reward, obviously once it was known how to obtain the trophies it would be up on the internet and everyone would know how to get them, assuming they are willing to accept that they could even make that tier apply to EXCLUSIVE titles, giving people a reason to buy their console and also giving game developers a reason to make exclusive games for their console because in my opinion more people would buy the game if they knew that by playing that game they could make 5 or 10 dollars or whatever the amount would be that they could then put to purchasing any other game or dlc from the online store. Like I said I know you wouldn't get much out of a feature like this but i was wondering what your thoughts would be on it from a marketing point of view? looking forward to watching the rest of your videos haha
Personally, I don't think traditional console will die and replace with just a “Streaming Box”. Like you said in another video Adam, that movie industry can have multiple take of profit per movie ( Box Office, Retail Sales, Renting, Syndication...etc), I think if MS and SONY are smart, they will not kill the tratditional console. Think about it, if they keep the physical retail and digital download model intact, also integrates the subscription based game streaming service; they can have multiple take similar to the movie industry as well.
ufster81 I think you will always needs some sort of local computation power for AAA game streaming to work, after all we are not talking about casual games like angry bird here. We don't even know what resolution the next gen console will try to push (2k? 4k?), it's too early to say we are ready to go full streaming and no local hardware, give it a few years and we'll see what kind of technologies we have, and what kind of result we can achieve.
ufster81 It's not necessary a hard sale to me, I think it all comes down to consumer choice, some might be willing to purchase a more expensive hardware for convenience and reliability. I live in a area which internet service isn't very stable (Let's not even talk about rest of the world) , I would certainly choose a more expensive and powerful console which gives me more choices (Physical, Digital Download, Streaming) over a mere streaming device, which I cannot use reliably.
ufster81 Also, I think the Game industry is too young compare to movie industry, and game companies are trying to figure out the best revenue model, perhaps it will go full streaming like you said , perhaps it will not, I really don't know. Time will tell.
Could you do a video on why you're not getting into PC Gaming? With the prediction of the 8th Gen being the last gen of consoles, there's no other choice except to go pc. Give the viewers some insight as to why PC gaming turns you off. I like videos and your opinions and I hope you make more to come. Thanks.
I hope one day you do take online seriously...cause talking to your friends and playing together is really really cool. I never want to play alone again.
Very we'll put. Your points are the reason why I don't have an Xbox One and chose the PS4 instead. I have no reason to own one. The Master Chief Collection looks good, but I can live with the original versions. Until the price is massively reduced or a game or 2 gets released exclusively for it and is/are brilliant, I will wait.
I can't keep doing the PC upgrade race anymore so I'm going to the console side as my current PC is struggling now and with games like The Witcher 3, SW Battlefront, Halo 5 etc. coming out next year I need to be able to play them so i'll buy an Xbox One.
Not enough software I'm interested in yet to warrant buying an xbox one or a ps4. If the ps4 was backwards compatible I'd get it in a heartbeat because I never got a Ps3 and Im not getting both. Wii U and 3ds and 360 are still treating me well. I like all the console brands but there's gotta be must-haves for my taste to blow all that cash. And the 360 still has all the multiplats anyway. Life's good!
I have a gaming PC, a Ps4, a WiiU and an Xbone, and out of all those options the device with the most dust on it is my PS4. Multiplatform titles I generally buy on Xbone because of the controller. I think the PS4 controller missed the mark and the thing constantly has a dead battery.
man, i already knew the xbone had been a fuck up in so many ways, but you crystallised it beautifully. the name makes no sense for many reasons, and i hadn't even thought of the whole 'if its supposed to be the only box ill need, dont make me need the other ones!' . damn, too many yes men in that meeting..
Adam since you were talking alot about pc comparison with the xbox one. Might be noteworthy to mention PC compatabilities with current gen controllers as both have their own pros and cons. I won't go into the wii u controller as don't have personal experience connecting it to a pc The Xbox one controller has been given official driver support for PC from Microsoft. The drawback being you cannot use it wirelessly at the moment, when windows ten was announced they mentioned a dongle like thing you can buy to give that feature, which is take it or leave, personally wish I didn't have to dish out more money than I have to Whereas the Dualshock 4 can be used in the same way as a pc gamepad. However the drivers to make it work were third party and never came from Sony. On the whole for this has never been much of a problem personally, the program occasionally crashes so point in Microsofts favour there. however what's noteworthy is that with a Bluetooth dongle or chip, (or some laptops come with bluetooth already built in) you can use the controller wirelessly just like on an actual playstation. Most PC games you wouldn't need this but some ports are borderline unplayable or are just better with an actual controller. Good example for the former being the original Dark Souls (don't hate fanboys; I love From Software just as much as you all xP). Just thought i'd pop my two cents in hopefully this isnt a redundant comment someone else has mentioned
My thoughts exactly Adam. I've been really unimpressed by this console generation (except for the Wii U, which has got the best exclusive games right now). Microsoft has practically nothing to offer. I got the Xbox One on launch and was really excited and I played tons of Deadrising 3 and NFS: Rivals, but once I beat those games, I didn't really use the console at all, except to watch Blu-rays. After a couple months of no really interesting games and hearing about all these "exclusives" like Deadrising 3 and Ryse coming to PC, and also about how underpowered the consoles were compared to PC's, I decided to build a gaming PC. No joke. This generation switched me over to PC gaming. Sure I was kind of interested in building a custom computer anyway, but I never thought I'd be playing all the new releases on PC. I was just baffled that Sony and Microsoft's "new consoles" were having trouble running new games. I don't consider myself a videophile or a resoultion whore or anything like that, but when games can only play at 900p in an age where 1080p has been around for years now, and 4k is starting to become popular, I feel like I've been cheated a little bit. I remember when the new consoles seemed cutting edge, and it was the best way to play games. But now with all the game updates and needing to be online and having to install games before you can even play them just make the PS4 and Xbox One seem like over-hyped underpowered PC's. To me, that's what made the older consoles so great; you could rent or buy a game, bring it home, and play it instantly without the hassle of installing it, but now that that's gone, I'm having trouble seeing the point of owning these "new" consoles.
Also its true that those games are not exclusives to the Xbox anymore but being a PC (Windows) exclusive is still exclusive to Microsoft. That's probably why they let it happen. Helps them either way. Doesn't help the Box so much but its still in the Microsoft ecosystem. But even being a PC gamer I understand that like it or not exclusives do sell hardware. Even I realized this going all the way back to the Bit Wars. Its was never about bits for me. Its about the games.
Just a bit late to the party! Your videos are really interesting, and very fun to watch! I agree entirely with your opinions as well. I do have one question on that remark about Microsoft Studios though. How are they not Microsoft? I suppose I do not do enough research, but I thought they where in fact part of Microsoft. I always viewed it as more a separate office then an external contractor.
Thanks! I just meant that Microsoft isn't a game company in of themselves. Microsoft Studios, as far as I recall, was just some ex-developer teams they simply absorbed and renamed.
Thanks dude!
@Santana Jordy Yea, been watching on instaflixxer for since december myself :)
@Santana Jordy Yup, I have been watching on instaflixxer for months myself :)
+Alexander Barker I'm genuinely excited to see more XBox One exclusive content, just hope it stays that way.
Sony owns over 16 studios all over the world. To be fair, though, Naughty Dog is by far the best one. Real moneymaker.
Adam, seriously, your insight is tremendous. You have a great gift for creative and constructive criticism. The console developers should be paying you millions! It would have saved them a shitload. Thanks for your passion, and time. This has been a great series
Man, that'd be awesome. Thanks by the way!
Andy Decoy Yes, you're a gamer first and a consumer second. Admirable, but you don't represent everyone. Platforms need exclusives to make people invest in them as opposed to others. It's just common sense.
***** Nah, I'd like one. But they're usually like $100 these days. Not really worth it since I don't care much about Halo.
I'm getting one due to price and bundles if they sell out ps4 all the way!!!
Mr_ Great_Dane
Happy gaming from the US!
Just curious to see if Bayonetta 2 and Smash Bros will boost the sales of the WiiU. Besides that I think Microsoft has a good chance to close the gap on the PS4 this christmas. Sony has almost nothing out right now that is exclusive
All consoles had exclusives since the begining, sonic, mario, zelda etc it still stands today exclusives do not sell consoles.
They're a 3 billion dollar plus corporation and continue to see rising profits every year.
sega risked so bad to go bankrupt
Tecnovlog What? They didn't go bankrupt.
AdamKoralik i know but they choosed to stop doing consoles because that would have happened
the software division was technically a different company then the hardware division which DID go bankrupt.
***** oh right they didn't have any loss :D upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/e/e3/Sega_Annual_Icome%28Loss%29_1993-2004.svg
Thanks for watching!
And for recognizing I'm not a fanboy of one when I chastise the other.
I gotta say, I love me some achievements. They blew my 13 year old mind when the 360 came out and I still enjoy them to this day.
Thanks, as always, for the awesome insights.
I'd like to point out that Microsoft acquired Nokia for the smartphone market and that the latest Internet Explorer is actually a decent if not one of the best current browsers, I personally used it out of curiosity and I like it a lot, never crashed on me.
Thanks for watching!
Not sure I can agree about Internet Explorer, may have to just trust you there.
But you're right about Nokia.
I will admit, that is the one thing I LOVE about the Kinect, redeeming codes. Other than that, it's just annoying.
"If you're watching this on the day it came out" Don't be silly Adam I watch all your videos on the day they came out
DAY ONE EDITION FAN!
I will admit, I did forget that Killer Instinct is on the XBox One.
I love the Wii U, I hope you're enjoying it.
Halo the master chief collection is the reason I bought the Xbox one
I love all my consoles, and I'm using my Xbox One the most. Considering it was a $500 paperweight at launch, that's quite a turnaround.
December 8th actually.
Good deal there.
Too bad you're not getting much out of it.
That is the best analogy in the history of ever.
I must say.... i LOVE your channel...when i have free time I just listening to you ...you got bunch of interesting information.
Thank you sir.
They should've called it the Xbox Vista because of how much of a fucking fail it was at launch.
I'm close to your age bro, I love achivos. Don't forget you save 3 percent once you get to 75k gamer score. Dlc savings for what you really can't get physical
+Michael Smith December 8th.
+Jovani Brown The whole brand?
+Jovani Brown Maybe eventually. But I think they'll abandon conventional consoles after the XBox One.
Bought the shirt at the Microsoft store in Redmond Washington just a couple months ago. :D
Count how many times they talk about the graphics in that presentation...
Great video Adam, so here's my take as PC Gamer: Your analogy of "I have a reason to buy this" doesn't works because of the tremendous disparity on both the much better quality (potentially) on the PC and the price and convenience of the PC (Let's face it: Steam is pretty damn convenient and brutal when it comes to price and delivery digitally, if you're willing to go digital it's miles ahead of xbox live for that)
If the level playing field was more equal I'd agree but it's like comparing 2 completely different console generations or worst and even then PC gamer ends up being cheaper factoring in what you pay for games when they're heavily discounted.
The Xbox One has actually passed the Wii U in sales. Please get better information.
I Sir Laughsalot Well woo-hoo, good for Microsoft and sad day for Nintendo. Honestly, I shot this video over a week ago so, shit happens.
AdamKoralik No problem. But I must say, it's not officially official, as Microsoft themselves haven't said it, but it's 95% possible.
I Sir Laughsalot
Sounds legit.
Best commentary I've seen that sums up the Xbox One & Microsoft. Well done.
Thanks for watching!
AdamKoralik No problem Adam, you have really good content, and present you're videos very well, good to see older generation consoles being discussed too! :)
This comment aged like fine wine 😂😂😂
Also, I love how passionate you are about gaming. It looks like you are about to cry in some of your videos and I respect that.
I miss the dreamcast I loved playing online
The Kinnect is what I call a "Parent Peripheral." It sounds good to parents.
LAN Fan I probably will. Hope you like the PS4!
Wow, I am really glad I waited for the S model to get myself a Xbox One
Very much liked this series. I wish there were more 8th gen consoles for you to talk about.
Thanks dude!
Handhelds mehhhh uhhhhh owwwwewee.
I love your videos so far. You're knowledgeable and informative, without seeming pretentious or condescending. You have your opinions while still respecting the opinions of others. I don't agree with you on everything, but I think that's part of the draw of your channel. You can have differing viewpoints and still remain civil.
Thank you sir.
Unrelated, Smallville was awesome.
This video hits on so many points that made me wait until just two weeks ago to get the Xbox One, after buying the last two gens on or around the release dates.
I was expecting a system that would literally let me pull my 360 off my component rack and stick the Xbox One in its place and keep going without missing a step.
Thank you for watching. I hope you enjoy the XBox One in spite of the flaws.
Elemino Musgrove
I also kind the 360 versions of apps like Netflix and TH-cam, for whatever reason, are vastly better.
I appreciate your opinions and hope you are able to continue doing so (+1 subscriber gained).
you should make an update on what the current state is with the xbox, you make awesome videos dude!
I finally got to watch the rest of this video & I think I will keep the rest of my opinions to myself but I did like the last 10 min of it, at 48 ive been a gamer for over 25yrs so I think this will be my last gen of gaming but it dosent mean I wont stop collecting games for the previous generations but keep up the good work & i look forward to watching more of your videos :)
Cheers mate
Thank you for finishing the video. I'm glad you liked at least some of it.
Cheers dude.
Oh my god....you sir have said what me and my uncle have been saying for a long time. Well done. Well done
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for watching!
In retrospect, Microsoft was trying to fix things like what SEGA SHOULD HAVE done with the Saturn in a sense
Thanks for watching!
Tbh I’m probably the “one guy” who likes the 360’s Kinect and is ok with the Xbox One’s Kinect, I can totally see why people don’t like Kinect though
The Xbone is actually only 3 months old where I live, cause Microsoft wanted to "Make sure it was ready for the specific markets" Even though they couldn't even be bothered to make the Kinect understand my Language AND preventing me from selecting English (Which I wanted to in the first place)
Region locking a language select. Brilliant work M$
So my Kinect is basically even more of a paperweight than your's ;)
Thanks for watching!
That last sentence would be an amazing attack ad for Sony or Nintendo.
brand loyalty is weird concept to me.
+De Lorean Thanks dude!
A lot of good points here, I have an xbox one. I am truly thinking of buying a PS4, since I have heard so many good things. Great stuff!! subbed and liked!
Thanks, welcome aboard sir.
Thanks for watching!
Achievements aren't completely pointless, on Live Rewards depending on your gamescore you do get a cash rebate on Marketplace purchases, but I think the main reason for achievements instead of just an ego thing is that its like a checklist so you can try and finsh as much of the game as possible
You know what...that is true. That is a good point.
Adam, as always, great video.
The counting for Windows versions is actually counting the number of publicly released NT kernel versions.
1. Windows NT 3.1
2. Windows NT 4.0 Workstation
3. Windows 2000 (NT 5.0)
4. Windows XP (NT 5.1)
5. Windows Server 2003 (NT 5.2)
6. Windows Vista (NT 6.0)
7. Windows 7 (NT 6.1)
8. Windows 8 (NT 6.2)
9. Windows 8.1 (NT 6.3)
Exactly.
Sorry, TH-cam never showed this reply to me. Thanks for taking the time to reply and that sucks but it is what it is.
darthlobster All good.
That pay wall was stupid, but I still find myself running into it sometimes. I do not know why, a bug perhaps.
Tired should go to bed but had to watch the video and most of the comments. Good job
Thanks Bane!
Enjoying the Xbox one controller works perfectly with my PC. Picked it up for $40 amazon sales.
However - the XB1 caters to me in very direct ways:
1) I love Halo - and I don't care about online play AT ALL. I literally bought the MCC just to play co-op with my fiance.
2) I love Forza 5, and don't care for Horizon 2. I am the exception here.
3) I dream of a GoW collection or another GoW game in general.
Great video!
Thanks Joe!
I'm glad I could help. Though the Wii U is still my favorite to be honest...but for the exclusives.
I was told by someone who claimed there is a small small small amount of truth to that, but I don't believe it personally.
+Amazing Dr. Grant Thanks!
***** Thanks!
AdamKoralik Finally the Xbox One is backwards compatible with 360 games!
A lot has changed in 2015
+Homer sams I don't know about "switching teams" per-say, but yeah I intend to do videos like this again in November.
Should I buy a xbox or a ps4 if I want to buy a Ps4 but my famliy wants to buy the xbox one because of the apps such as skype ect
Thanks. No particular reason I suppose.
Thanks.
I really don't feel like dealing with the keyboard warriors.
With consoles, I'm passionate about why I love them. It's harder to do the reverse.
I hope one day you do take online seriously...cause talking to your friends and playing together is really really cool. I never want to play alone again.
I'm not opposed to online co-op experiences, don't get me wrong. I just prefer offline experiences.
I'm amazed Microsoft didn't release a Halo MCC bundle for the holidays.
Thanks Ben.
Adam since you were talking alot about pc comparison with the xbox one. Might be noteworthy to mention PC compatabilities with current gen controllers as both have their own pros and cons. I won't go into the wii u controller as don't have personal experience connecting it to a pc
The Xbox one controller has been given official driver support for PC from Microsoft. The drawback being you cannot use it wirelessly at the moment, when windows ten was announced they mentioned a dongle like thing you can buy to give that feature, which is take it or leave, personally wish I didn't have to dish out more money than I have to
Whereas the Dualshock 4 can be used in the same way as a pc gamepad.
