MGMT Playing @ Paradiso! amazing performance! starts out kinda slow but that just makes the song sound much better. You have to watch the whole thing to get the full experience.
I can already see that this video will be watched for some 50 years, and everyone will be saying how this was a real and true music, next to the doors, led zeppelin, pink floyd etc. this band is going to be alive FOREVER!
It's their song, they can play it however they want to and personaly, I think it's great that it's different versions of a song that we all love to begin with.
once i got to see them live and you can really really see how they feel their music, they are not just those regular guys that do playback and stick to their records. i think these are real muscians. thumbs up
This is a fantastic intro, I have not seen an Ocarina pulled out at a live show like... EVER. If there are two things I super fking love it's Ocarinas and Banjos.
Esta canción, esta versión fue la primera que escuche de mgmt, de hecho, fue este video!! :D de no haber sido asi no hubiera profundizado en ellos. El intro compró a todos mis sentidos!
@ilovemgmt23 I like it alot makes the whole song better because it kind of builds up to what everybody wants to here. That's why live music is better than studio music the whole act of improvisation and in the moment thinking is so much more impressive than something having to be processed and mixed and everything like that.
his voice is so awesome. I'm guessing that a lot of the people leaving comments don't really like jam bands..... They go to MGMT shows expecting some crazy electronica show along the lines of Daft Punk or something and are disappointed when it resembles something more like Built to Spill where they're just rocking out together, without a giant metal pyramid. I thought this is great.
its much better to hear them on live, and realize some differences between track and live performance. It means that they are playing and experiencing with their own music. Then it means that their do not use playback. This is the majority. They are true on the scene and they have a lot of fun. Great job boys.
"Finding an unlikely middle point between Suicide's hostile proto-electro punk art noise and the sardonic, studied, but ultimately pop-friendly sound of the Flaming Lips"
these guys are cool but they're WORLDS behind The Mars Volta as far as psychedelic mastery and overall experimental godliness!!! still, MUCH love for MGMT!
Push the button to "Show More", and you'll see the answer to the "what's the drummer playing" question. It is an ocarina. It's definitely the oldest instrument being played. Funny how it gives the pop twist to the song, when the synthesizer duplicates it!
@mrhacksit YES I HAVE UP THE IRONS!! however they are different Mgmt is like a double-rainbow , relaxing and surreal while Iron Maiden is like a thunder storm, energizing, strong and ass-kicking
MGMT can open for Animal Collective, but other than that, no. Animal Collective is at a whole other level. MGMT is pop. Animal Collective is a whole new genre.
i really love the way they build it up with the intro/ background gearing in the beginning. you can already tell what song they are gonna play because of the jungle-ey feel. and if i was to guess ( if i didn't know the right answer) i would say that this song is about his guitar. the way it feels electric? i just thought that was a cool connnection to make. but yes, we all know its about drugs, Andrew said it himself on the David Letterman show
I can already see that this video will be watched for some 50 years, and everyone will be saying how this was a real and true music, next to the doors, led zeppelin, pink floyd etc. this band is going to be alive FOREVER!
True, ten years later it is still valid.
damn right!
It's their song, they can play it however they want to and personaly, I think it's great that it's different versions of a song that we all love to begin with.
the beginning sounds so trippy.
i love them :))
Just as good 12 yrs later
12 years later and still amazing
pink floyd is really up there on my favorites list, but they do not come to mind when i hear electric feel.
This is the best version of this song live i think. i like the mood and andrews voice ;)

once i got to see them live and you can really really see how they feel their music, they are not just those regular guys that do playback and stick to their records. i think these are real muscians. thumbs up

MGMT should go on tour with Portugal. The Man!
Love their music and style :)
If this isn't bringing the 70's back - nothing is.
the only concerts i go to are electronic and the shows are always beyond awesome! open yo' mind fool!
They are to some extent. 'Pop music' isn't a negative term. In my opinion "Time To Pretend" is one of the best pop singles ever
This is a fantastic intro, I have not seen an Ocarina pulled out at a live show like... EVER. If there are two things I super fking love it's Ocarinas and Banjos.
Espetacular.
