    I have been sitting on a suitcase for years, reverse the pedal and use your heel. It is ergonomically advantageous as well. your core is much better in-line..... The suitcase stays put unless you go away, saves dragging the seat around as well, plus a handy carry-all. Well, it suits me anyway...

      I wouldn't think you could sit comfortably on top of a suitcase for very long.

    What a clever idea, using the hinge! Such a perfectly simple and elegant design. Nice work, thanks for sharing!

    Nice build! I definitely prefer wood over plastic; I include a rubber pad from a hardware store on to my first two where the beater strikes the case. That spring loaded hens is a great idea! I've seen other bills where some sort of legs or stabilizers mounted on the other side of the case and I may do that for my next one as well. Thanks for sharing!

    Cardboard boxes sound a bit better. -- Duct tape 3-4 layers where the kick pedal strikes the box and also use layers on the bottom to have a place to secure the kick pedal. -- Pillows or foam can be used inside the box (and suitcases, too) to adjust the sound.

    I have a really old suit case like this too.... and Im building a set. Except Those older suitcases are worth a lot of money... so Intead of the hinge, and I thought of the same idea... im building a cradle for the bottom, and strapping it in. Not drilling any holes holes. I can clamp the bass beater, to the cradle. These older suit cases are getting really hard to find. Collectors scooping them up. Mine is from the 40s... peace man.

    What are some other songs that work well with this setup?

    • @MerwinMusic
      @MerwinMusic  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A lot of indie songs work well with this setup, Lumineers songs, most things that have a strong kick and snare pattern can be replaced with this setup. (tambourine as snare and suitcase as kick).

  • @keithclark486

    Not a new idea ' We were using them back in the early 50's ' we would cut ports in the face of the suit case and attach a tambourine inside of it. Worked good for heavy metal music back in those days.

    That was genious. Now all you have to do is glue a piezo disc and send it to the pa system İf you want to amplify it.

    On the large, tweed case, the bottom sounds better because that structure is of wider panels which vibrate at lower frequencies.
    Now, please pack that thing up and sell it to me, I've been looking for a case like that for a long time!!!

    On 4/4/22, l learned, By Experimentation, That if you get a cardboard-box(Approx, 21" High, Approx, 20" R2L, Approx, 5 1/2" F2B) and Cover it, First, With a, Thick, Cotton-Blanket and, 2nd, A, Light-Plush, Throw-Blanket, Over that, You'll get a, Deep, Slightly, muffled, Bass-Drum, Sound! :D You might, Even, Try, Placing, 2 blankets, As mentioned, Over a suitcase, Like the one, ln this video, and, Possibly, get the same-effect, As my, Successful, "Cardboard-Box, With 2 Blankets, Covering-it, Experiment"?! :D p.s. : *To prevent the Covered-Box, From falling-over, l placed 5(2qt)-Bottles of Water(With lids, Still, On!), Lined-Up, In a row, Behind-it.

    He should glue a piece of hard wood to surface of the suitcase so it makes a better sound.

      @@stclare58 Yes. Where it hits the suitcase. He should put at 1/8 inch thick piece of wood there to get a better sound.
