You could try different handle types, paracord, nylon, ect. Possibly one with be more pleasing from a sensory perspective. Etsy has a lot of different options for service dog gear.
The more I watch your videos and see her Abigail acts. The more I think my oldest daughter is Autistic. We adopted her when she was 9 years old,, they told us that she was just development delay and had seizure. I am glad I have found your channel and thank you for sharing your life and family.
I love this! I have a service dog too named Pugsley, for my autism among many other things. (I swear I should be a walking medical dictionary lol) He has been SO amazing and I've had a lot better time regulating myself with his help. Just today i was getting overwhelmed and he brought me his rope toy for heavy work to help regulate. He wasn't even trained to do that! He just naturally picks up on it. i'm so glad that Abigail has Maverick to help her ^_^
Hi. I absolutely love your vlogs and am now binge watching a lot of old ones that I’ve never seen👍🏾. I’m glad you showed the perspectives of various people towards having Maverick out in public. It’s important to note ( as you may already be aware) that some may stare at him out of fear also. I say this because I used to be completely TERRIFIED of dogs, and any time I saw one, I’d always stare at them while walking away. I did this so I could watch their every move to ensure they didn’t attack me. Ironically, some years back, I got a black, flat-coated retriever puppy, ( whom we named Frodo). Bonding and taking care of him helped my fear of dogs to COMPLETELY vanish!
Enjoy seeing the reaction of the people around you while walking. Great persprctive showing how others might stare and react. Your vlogs are great...quality and informative. Thumbs Up
You have done a tremendous job with your channel!! It's amazing to think this is where you started off with the channel, I love watching these vlogs, as I have a real appreciation for the older ones too ☺ You should be so proud you've come such a long way!! 😊❤💜
I saw someone with a service dog in Walmart, but I didn't engage because I knew not to distract a dog when he or she is working. Plus it would be rude to the owner as well.
I love getting updates from you guys. I just got some hiking boots on clearance for one of our dogs. we live in the desert with some pretty wicked plants. our dogs main service is protecting the live stock. idea for the dog harness and encouraging abbey to hold onto him - improvise something with a bungi cord type leash. I want to say I have seen tactical type bungi dog leashes on Amazon. I think the handle on the harness might be a little more easy to hang on too. I remember improvising a million things for the little girl I took care of. PS where do you get your t shirts? would love to get one for my Hubby.
I had to Google BLD. It's disgusting that they charge so that much for a harness. It's leather, nylon, and metal. Ridiculous. I'm certain I can engineer a better solution for far less and not put money into the pockets who financially take advantage of the needs of the disabled and special needs. Ugh, triggered!
FatheringAutism I have to agree they are pretty expensive, I've been looking to invest in one for my sisterfor a while but I just can't afford it, I managed to tinker one myself but I'm never going to use it as I know it's a failure. However my service dog handling friend highly recommends it as it is great for mobility and all that stuff
Is he trained not to go after other dogs when he is working. I know in other videos you have said that that was one of the only problems you had when letting him outside in your front yard so I was wondering if he understood when he is working not to do that
Most service dogs have what we call an off switch. I have a standard poodle who is my psychiatric service dog, he loves to play, bark, and goof around. But as soon as I need him or we're out in public he is in work mode and ignores everything but me.
@@lightsaflame4505 I understand that but I'm not sure if he does have a off switch. They have said before that that's a ongoing problem that they have had with him was that when other dogs was around he couldnt help his self he would take off running after them lol so cute. But yeah that's why I was asking them.
I’m meeting my new autism service dog (assistance dog here in uk) today. I am so excited and cant wait to start out training. - for people wanting more info on autism dogs for kids and adults in Uk look for Autismdogs dot co dot uk or google autism dogs CIC.
Hello! Autistic person here. The puzzle symbol is a hate symbol used against us. It implies that we need to be fixed. I love how caring you are to your kids! But please be aware of that :)
@@addison4674 100000000000% couldn't agree with you more. But not sure if you know but Maverick failed his training so now he's retired from being a SDiT.
@Loulou Bos Yes, but not from a single D ring on a vest, it has to be veterinarian and orthopedic approved to be able to do mobility tasks. Maverick is Abby's Service Dog not her dad's, Maverick was pulling her dad, not her. Also Maverick was highly distracted, and the way he acted towards that other dog isn't something a Service Dog in Training would do.
@Loulou Bos I know every single task a Service Animal can do, every single type of Service Animal there is. I'm well versed in all the ADA laws. I've been studying the ADA and Service Animals for the past 6 years, I have a Service Dog in Training right now.
service dogs are so important.

She is just so perfect and gorgeous!!! So is her puppy!!!❤️

Miniature dig tried killing all three of us 😂😂😂
A true SD would have totally ignored it.

Thanks for sharing, interesting to see Maverick in his job role!
I already commented on the FB page, but again, love the dog, he looks really cute! Enjoyed the vlog as usual :)
I love Maverick. He reminds me of a dog are used to have was Daisy. So sweet that you were able to train him as a service dog. Much love

Love this video would love to see more service dog training video
Jean Morgan This is a much older video and now Mavericks retired. ❤️. Thought I could shed some light for ya

I’m trying so hard to get a service dog for my son. He is such an escape artist and he keeps getting past all of our precautionary measures
Love you bunches and Nathan
I love her shirt. Abbie always has such cute clothes!
I was lost fathering an a.s.d. child until I found you guys thank you abby
I love that Dogs can be used for Autism :)
I love Maverick he is so cute. I love Abigail. Why did Abigail had a Meltdown?

RedRock Asrama Great tips, thanks! I get my shirts from Amazon mostly.
FatheringAutism Thanks. Have a great week!
FatheringAutism is this in Jacksonville?
I always haft to be extra careful when I see a service dog, I just want to snuggle them! But they are working so I always contain myself :P
I’m binge watching your videos and I recognize where you were! I love this shopping area and it has the closest Cheesecake Factory! That’s so cool!
Glad I'm not the only one who has tried to watch from the start!
That’s what I usually do I read the vest to see what the dog is helping with
Get a BLD. It might help with the holding the handle idea as its a higher handle

Lucy Wilson I don't recommend a bld in there case maybe a longer pull strap though
FatheringAutism here are some cheaper ones www.etsy.com/shop/YupCollars?ref=s2-header-shopname
Makes me nervous when you vlog and drive!
Am watching in 2020. Abbie has grown a lot
I have autism (well aspergers...) and i am looking into a service dog! Thx for the vid
Me Too!!!!!

Would a taller harness handle help?

Love her top very colorful
I know this but loved that video
Thank you for this video!!!
Did you guys name him Maverick, or did the people at the service dog program give him the name?
Go Maverick!!! :)
She is about 9 months old
I take my shoes off every time I'm sitting as well. I don't like the feeling of them when walking.

The s on your shirt should say super dad
Cause my son does
Yep....blue sun glasses are way better lol
Isiahs and girlfriend? everyone’s such a baby in these old videos
Service Dogs aren't supposed to pull,or interact with dogs when working. Maverick needs to be trained a whole lot more before he can wear his vest!

You shouldn't film while driving!
Right!!! That guy!!! 😡
