Unfortunately Josef gangl was shot and killed. when trying to protect the French political prisoners. It wasn't just Nazis coming back to take the castle and kill the prisoners, it was the bloody SS. The battle had a major effect on French history, cause it was major head of the French government that were being held at the castle. If they were killed, French history may have been change drastically post WWII, hence why the SS wanted to kill them.

The battle of Castle Itter was fought on 5 May 1945, in the Austrian village of Itter in the North Tyrol region of the country, during the last days of the European Theater of World War II. Troops of the 23rd Tank Battalion of the 12th Armored Division of the US XXI Corps led by Captain John C. For anyone confusee, the German army at that time was divided into SS and Wehrmacht. SS was Hitler‘s army, which were formed basically by nazis, and their duties had to do with murdering jews and stuff like that. Wehrmacht, in the other hand, was just the normal National Army and had nothing to do with nazism. Wehrmacht soldiers did have the swastika in their uniforms because they were still commanded by Hitler. But being Nazi, as opposed to SS, was not a requirement for joining the Wehrmacht. Also, as a German speaker, I don’t want to translate the word Wehrmacht because it sounds stupid when translated. Let’s just use it in German :D
@@condedooku9750 yes but this translation fits as much as the german original one. And today its still called defense expenses and not military expenses
This is partially true. The Wehrmacht was officially non-political, but in reality was VERY involved in the holocaust. while the SS were the main perpetrators of German Wartime Atrocities the Wehrmacht had their fair share as well (Although to a substantially lesser degree). It's not a bad thing that you said this though, it allows people like me to debunk it. The idea that the Wehrmacht were not involved in the crimes comitted by the Nazi Regieme is a still common misconceptionc called the "Clean Wehrmacht Myth". The myth originates fro just after WW2 ended and Germany was under allied occupation. The Western Allies wanted to make sure that the soon to be formed Federal Republic of Germany (or west germany) could defend itself from possible Soviet attack which meant they needed a standing army of their own. The problem is, the commanders and soldiers of this new army would have to be the same ones who just lost WW2. So, the Clean Wehrmacht myth was created to stem any public outrage this would give.
MrSpherical: *makes a humorous video about the final battle at Castle Itter* Sabaton fans: Allow us to introduce ourselves~ Also Sabaton fans: JENNY AT THE GATES!
its historically accurate. its called the battle of castle itter. The castle was used as a prison for some high profile french POW, a member of czech resistance, and a famous tennis player. As it clear that the germans lost the war at this point the garrison abandoned their post. The french prisoner then send someone to find nearby allied troops. They find an american infantry units. Along the way they encounter a wehrmact german troops who proceed to surrender to the americans. The nearby SS troops then decide to attack the itter castle. Its dubbed the strangest battle in WW2 fought side by side by a rag tag group of american, wehrmacht, french POW, and some czech resistance group against the SS german division.
The tennis player was actually almost caught on his way to get reinforcements, but he disguised himself as an Austrian Citizen picking mushrooms. Then he processed to pee next to a tree and then kept running to find reinforcements.
0:17 “Captain Lee! I got news from Berlin!”Yep this is Castle Battle Everyone Knows But In The Real Battle,The entire Americans are tankers (Lee Himself is a Tanker) and Also Is not a Nazi Prison Camp is a freaking a Castle with politicians. There Are Many Easter eggs to the real battle.Good Job.
The Americans were from the 12th AD, 23rd tank battalion, so that makes sense. And Lee would have had seven or so Shermans, but he couldn’t take them all across a bridge. It used to be a Nazi prison castle, but it was abandoned by the SS garrison.
Castle Itter, where an american captain met an whermahct major who was in the austrian resistance and both went to a castle where French VIPs were held pow and there was an SS Hauptsturmmführer that vowed to protect the castle against the SS, 1 soldier from Gangl's side deserted and the SS came, the Sherman blew up and Gangl died because he took a bullet for a former president, another sherman came by and the allied team won.
An it’s the end of the line of the final journey Enemies leaving the past And it’s American troops and the German army Joining together at last After the downfall, a castle relieved Defeating the nazis who held them besieged Gangl and Lee and their men set the prisoners free😎🤟🤘
It's rather nice to see a video of "The Last Battle" & the respect given to the German soldiers(especially seeing officer Gangle sacrifice, as well as showing him being a KEY leader in the Austrian resistance 🇦🇹)
There are actually 2 missed details in the video: 1. One of the German who helped defense the castle actually ran off (I dont remember the reason though but I think it wasn't for betrayal) 2. The tennis guy actually got spotted by the attacking German, but he managed to fool them and called the reinforcement
The castle is called Castle Itter, it was after Hiltter killed himself and Germany Surrendered. A German Weirmacht company that just surrendered to an American Airborn company and an SS officer who was also an Austrian resistance. The occupants of the castle were VIP prisoners. They included politicians, athletes and otheres. At the surrender, the SS left with a notice that they wold return to kill them all. They sent an athlete with an Austrian dialect over the walls to get help, the Americans, Weirmacht and single SS officer held off an entire SS battalion for over a day until the American Sherman tank division could arrive. The castle has not been repaired, it still bears the wounds inflicted that day.
Thankyou so much for this video mr spherical this is one of my favorite war stories so thankyou for getting more people to learn about this story. God bless you.
Man I'm so glad I learned this from listening to music it got me to see it in a different way thank God for sabaton bro Also been here since 8k subs love this channel
This taught us a very important fact: Not all Germans are Nazis. Many people (mainly Americans) always confuse them and sometimes call WW1 Germans Nazis. I believe that only around 5% or WW2 Germans were actual Nazis, the rest were innocent civilians trying to survive. (My statistic might be off)
People need to understand that not all soldiers back the political regime in charge. Soldiers, most of the time, are just fighting because they have to and/or they have pride for their country and want to protect it. It happened with German soldiers and it is happening today with the Russian soldiers and Russian people. Not all (likely only a minority) soldiers and civilians support Putin’s actions.
One last fight, it's the death throes of the Third Reich Justice shall be done, the final battle remains Ammo is running low, they're depleting their machine guns Every bullet counts until surrender is announced
It’s crazy how fanatical and loyal the SS was during the war up to the end that they fought against their own comrades multiple times in the war towards the end
Fun fact: 5:40 - 5:53. There was a German 88 mm anti-air gun that was also used for anti-tank operation that was located Nearest siege and was used by ss forces during the siege, It destroyed parts of the Castle and to take out the tank, The part where only ball who survived was holding a radio is true, The only member of the original crew survived was the radio operator who is able to crawl out of the burning tank before it fully exploded.
If anyone wondering which event is told in this video? Well this is the Famous battle known as "Battle of Castle Itter" which was fought between American , French and Anti-Nazi Germans against Nazi Waffen SS on 5th April 1945.

Defense forces
What's the problem?
@@1aboPLZ That they did not defend anything, they were only attacking other countries.
Well the Wehrmacht also participated in the Holocaust so... Actually they are not much better than the SS.
MrSpherical: *makes a humorous video about the final battle at Castle Itter*
Sabaton fans: Allow us to introduce ourselves~
Also Sabaton fans: JENNY AT THE GATES!
6:05 "you should alway expect the unexpected"
its historically accurate. its called the battle of castle itter.
Thanks MrSpherical this premiere is/was awesome! Can definetely really tell your improving and enjoying making these!
8:08 can we all agree that this one is the most funniest part ever?🤣🤣
Whhaahaa 🤣😅
No this is the most funny part 0:19

it sounds really dumb to me as a german native speaker 😂

I knew it! The fact France was in war with a tennis racket was hilarious!
The tennis player was actually almost caught on his way to get reinforcements, but he disguised himself as an Austrian Citizen picking mushrooms. Then he processed to pee next to a tree and then kept running to find reinforcements.
lmfao
And he was almost caught by 2 SS soldiers manning a MG-42. I can't imagine what would have happened if he got caught.
@@CharaDreemurr_Undertale he would got killed and there is a possibility that the Nazis would still exist
I also wish for a million bucks
Castle Itter, where an american captain met an whermahct major who was in the austrian resistance and both went to a castle where French VIPs were held pow and there was an SS Hauptsturmmführer that vowed to protect the castle against the SS, 1 soldier from Gangl's side deserted and the SS came, the Sherman blew up and Gangl died because he took a bullet for a former president, another sherman came by and the allied team won.
Again, and I will keep saying this until they actually do it but…
HOW THE FUCK HASN’T THIS BEEN TURNED INTO A MOVIE YET?!?!?!?!?!?!

4:03 I love how you mentioned M4 Sherman nicknamed "Besotten Jenny" that helped defend the itter castle
Sabaton made an epic piece of music called "The Last Battle" dedicated to this event. Still one of the best and most epic battles of World War 2
The Last Battle is a great book. I highly recommend it.
Don't forget sabaton as well
Great video. Not all Germans were Nazis in war most were just soldiers serving their countries not the Nazi party
One of the best German general was there, the man who nearly singlehandly defeated France, the famous Maurice Gamelin
It's rather nice to see a video of "The Last Battle" & the respect given to the German soldiers(especially seeing officer Gangle sacrifice, as well as showing him being a KEY leader in the Austrian resistance 🇦🇹)
It's the end of the line, of the final journey, enemies leaving the past. And it's American troops and the German army, joining together at last!
If you recall the events one by one, it's very confusing
"stay alive until im dead" got me dead on the ground
I died to laugh with the final "Nazi Prison Castle" and the thunderstruck hitting the german soldier
The *Nazi soldier.
There are actually 2 missed details in the video:
1. One of the German who helped defense the castle actually ran off (I dont remember the reason though but I think it wasn't for betrayal)
2. The tennis guy actually got spotted by the attacking German, but he managed to fool them and called the reinforcement
5:35 "WAS THAT A F***ING ANTI TANK GUN!?" That laughed me out 😂😂😂
4:21
My favorite WW II battle, great video!
One thing you got wrong Mr. spherical is that the tennis player volunteered to find the back up
I am so excited about this! It's going be so good!
2:49 OMG Companyballs Is Here!!!!!!!!!! Thats What I Waiting For!

After all these years, I finally found it... *Bowser's last castle!*
I still cant believe they didnt make a movie or a game about this story-like battle.
The tennis ball player would just replace greaneades instead of balls
...XD
I have loved watching the channel grow from hardly and views but great content to finally gathering a substantial audience

When USA said “silly mustache man may be dead but his spirit still lives on or something like that” really got me lol
I love how the lighting strick started a fire but Lee and Gangel don't even noticed or care
I love how even Mr. Spherical even got the besotten jenny tank accurate.
It’s crazy how fanatical and loyal the SS was during the war up to the end that they fought against their own comrades multiple times in the war towards the end
It's so epic to know that even those who did bad things knew when they could redeem themselves and take the first step...THIS VIDEO WAS EPICCC 🔥
Ah castle itter, an amazing story of human co-operation, even if the enemy is who they need to team up with

Ngl its cool seeing the radioman alive. Its true too! The radioman in the Besotten survived. Nice little aspect
