This is definitely the knife for me! D2 steel is perfect. I don't like extremely hard steels, and most importantly I would never even consider paying $100 for a knife. I really love the way this knife looks, and I am left handed. I have had several Kershaw Knives and never had any problem with them. I will definitely buy this knife.
@@RealAndyOriginal, there's plenty of good stuff available for under $100. I want a knife I can USE, and can be easily and inexpensively replaced if lost, stolen, or damaged.
Old comment, but I came here to say that Kershaw just dropped this knife in G10 with an S35vn blade (HRC 60-62) for $99. Looks like their model is to test a design's traction with a budget model, and if it proves popular, to release limited (or permanent) upgraded versions.
I just ordered this. Between this and the Iridium, i felt it wasn't worth the extra cost just for the aluminium and I appreciate the cleaner design of the Heist and also its washers. Nice review. I just wish we'd see something worthwhile from Zero Tolerance too, but they've really been sleeping on things.
I’m thinking of getting this knife as a gift. Between this and the iridium I’m liking the smaller size and full liners w/ “plastic” scales as it tones down the knife factor and gets people to use them more, washers are a plus.
@@G-Man01 how have you enjoyed this knife ? I’m looking at this one and the iridium as well- what exactly was your reason for disliking the smaller bearings? Is that a personal issue or are they functionally inferior?
@@PeepersonCreedo I've still been using it and keep it by my bedside for whenever i have a package to open. Right now it's stuck down the side of the matress but that doesn't mean i like it any less, I have just been too lazy to get it out. But I still stand by my initial comments on preference for its durability and preference for its larger sized washers. Which are just a personal preference but one could argue that they do add stability (think less chance for a knife to have lateral motion if supported by the breadth of larger washers). Chris Reeves are a good industry example of this mechanic. Their washers are rather huge. They also stop extra dirt from making their way into the pivot. I am in a high humidity environment, and have not had any rust on the D2. The only downside I can possibly think of (And this is a minor gripe few would pay attention to) is one that is shared across many knives with axis locks. The mechanic for opening axis locks of this nature requires you use your forefinger and thumb, and in this 'position', you naturally permit the end of the knife to cup into the base of your hand. On some ocassion, when you apply downward pressure with your fingers to open the lock, there is a chance the base of the knife loses grip and slips down through your hand, with the pressure of your fingers. When buying axis lock knives you should check that this is not a problem for your hand type. Many knives have this 'issue' because they do not use jimping at the tail end of the knife, therefore lack grip there. The knife industry has not recognised this as a potential improvement, yet. But aside from this, there is no issue with the heist whatsoever and I have not had to open or adjust it since making my comment.
@@G-Man01 thank you for your update and explanation! I have a couple budget tier knives that are experiencing a bit of blade play, I wonder if the smaller washers could be to explain on something like that. I was having trouble picking between this one and the iridium just because the slim design of the iridium is appealing- but for ~$30 cheaper and not too many downsides the heist seems like a no brainer. The best options may be to just go all the way and buy both… My father has a bugout so I’ve played a bit with the axis design, and for me that knife works- though I’m not sure if that’s universal among all knife designs utilizing the crossbar lock. Now that I’m going back over this video the size of the heist seems very appealing as well. It looks a bit thicker and wider

Glad Kershaw is making better knives. This one has many positive features, though not my cup of tea aesthetically speaking. I hope Kershaw continues on this path.
Last year was all buttons, this year looks like it is going to be all bars. Is Kershaw moving away from 14c28n? I'd buy one of these if I could get it in 14c28n with a wharncliffe or tanto blade profile.
Industry question: when you see budget designs like this or the civivi praxis (my personal favorite design) with amazing design but budget materials, how often do you see larger companies treat it like a pilot? I.e. if the knife sells well they release it in more premium materials/features?
I needed something cheap and temporary so I stopped at Walmart quick and ended up buying a Kershaw flipper (sorry I have no idea what the model is). I carry it everyday now. It's been a few years and I've rarely had to sharpen it. I get compliments pretty much every time I pull it out, lol. If I remember right it cost me a whole $16. Aluminum handle and some kind of decent stone-washed steel. I'm amazed at how well it holds an edge! My other knives just sit there now. Why risk ruining one of them when this one does the job and I won't care that much if something happens to it. I should have went back and bought another one just to keep as a spare 😅
Budget kershaws are great work/beater knives. Ive been using an old kershaw for a while now and it might need to be replace this one. Great vid as always.

I kind of disagree when it comes to Spyderco FRN; their lightweight stuff is un-flexible and is extremely hard even without a nested steel liner supporting the material. Other than the fact that it just feels plastic-y, it still feels at least durable and rugged and is much better than say Benchmades grivory or GFN that is literally flexible and bendy unless it's supported by full steel liners.

I really like the blade shape and overall look of this knife . That said I returned the one I bought because the action was bad. Spring tension on the lock bar was excessive and made the lock hard to use and the blade pivot was very tight making flicking it open with the thumb studs very difficult. I really wanted to like this knife but the action was a big no go for me.
When loose enough to make the action smooth there was too much side to side blade play and that did not help the excessive lock tension. The second one I tried was almost just as bad. Way to many great knives in this price range to mess with a poor design like this one. Spend the extra ten bucks and get the Iridium if you have to have a Kershaw. It is way better than the Heist. @@steventaylor2484
Just ordered one based on your review. I figure as the economy gets back to normal, these will blister pack at Walmart for $35 or so, but in this case I'm willing to be first in line to try one, it seems like such a solid value. Mine also broke in so cleanly I can hold it completely horizontal and it will close itself... smoother than any Benchmade... again just the ergonomics being slightly bad for a high choke I'd give it an 8/10 but 10/10 visually
