We used whatsapp to call back home and to text with our group onboard. We just made a text group, worked great. Airplane mode can save an entire paycheck lol. Great channel.
Very true. Some things changed since the video was released. Royal Caribbean announced a couple of weeks ago that they are banning WIFI routers from their ships. They cited interference with their systems but I think we all know it's driven by monetary reasons. Thankfully, the other tips in the video are all still valid.
@@ffmedic1638 Yes, please report back on how it works. I researched it but haven’t used it myself yet so I’m very interested to see how it goes for you.
7:17, using phone as hotspot. For iphone I don't believe the two work together but for at least some samsung you can hotspot to reshare the wifi connection you're connected to so that might be worth a check. Basically would work similar to the travel router granting access to multiple devices through one device connection
@@AlexiasSingleton Thank you! For AT&T, there is not an additional charge for wi-fi calling. I believe you need to activate it before you leave though. For another provider, I would check with them.
Thanks for another great video. So, when it comes to texting, your text messages are OS dependent. So if you're an Apple user, you can only txt another Apple user. Likewise, if you're an Android user, you're only able to txt another Android phone.
@CruisingKat as a hiker I have a satellite device I pay 30usd a month and I can text anyone while out in the bush , may be alot cheaper to keep in touch with friends plus it has a translation ability , maps , so, and my fav a map that family can see where I am at all times in the trails

@@DS-mo7vu Thank you so much! I’m so glad you’re enjoying it 😁
Does it mean you bought a wifi on board? Wondering how you got the WhatsApp working. Please advise
Very helpful video. Thank you.

Thank you !
Thank you for watching! 😊
Very nice and informative video. If you don't have a old WiFi extender some home routers can be put in AP mode and do the same thing.

Very nice video! I would like to hear more about the travel router. I will be trying mine in a couple of weeks on my RC cruise and may report back.

@@platinum2t6 Thank you for the tip! My whole family uses iPhones, but hopefully will help somebody with Samsung phones 😁
Great video. Quick question: Was there any additional charge with your cell provider using the wifi calling from your phone?

Are we allowed sim conected travel routers that conect to world cell towers or satellite
@@rdeh1678 Yes, but they will only work if connected to satellites, not cell towers when out in the ocean.
