Why the Rosenwald Tarot is so Cool!

  • Every video on the Rosenwald should be titled Why it's so cool, because it is!
While comparing the triumph cards of the 4 copies of the Rosenwald that I own, I take the opportunity to share a few insights along the way.
Notice how each deck creator envisioned how the Fool might have looked had it been part of the deck; and also how they completed the Wheel.
Marco Benedetti watched this video and shared the following information:
"Ah Ah! I liked the Rosenwald video, thank you! 😘
    Just FYI, one thing that few people know is that part of the Rosenwald sheet was childishly "restored" by an incompetent;
you need the hi-res images to notice.
So, there are few parts of the sheet that are not original and that are reconstructed more or less differently in the 3 editions, namely:
    Emperor face,
    About 50% (!) of Pope,
    front legs of Death's horse,
Face of the left human in Judgement.
Especially the Pope it's the card in which the 3 version are more different."
From left to right the publications are:
    Tarot Sheet Revival (Sullivan Hismans)
    Artisan Tarot (Krisztin Kondor)
    artisantarot.com/
And the last two on the right were by Marco Benedetti

The older Benedetti cards may have suffered from colorspace issues... there are slight differences in digital files of how colors are designated for screen display vs colors for printing. So it is possible that the reds he originally chose were brighter but when they printed they came out less saturated. Maybe issues like that influenced his decision to begin printing his own decks?
I love the Rosenwald sheet.... it is such a strange thing... with some features of Florentine and Bolognese decks. Do all of these decks use the other Rosenwald sheets for minors? Because stylistically the other sheets appear to be totally different decks.

Great insights into why the color pallette in Marco's two decks might vary. Thank you for sharing that and I bet you're right about why he might have been motivated to take over the printing process himself.
Yes! I forgot to mention about the pips and courts probably being from different decks. I agree, they do seem to be different styles. When I compared the TSR deck with Marco's, I would have shown the pips and courts since they were published as a complete deck in the TSR and Marco's publications. Thank you for watching and for sharing your comments. ~ Marilyn

Well, there are many good reasons why I stopped using TGC, and color fidelity is certainly one of them, but the main one was the frustration of not being able to use the original format of the historical decks. For instance, Rosenwald in RWS format is too big and loses a lot of its charm; I've never been happy with the TGC edition.

@@MBTarot Ahh very interesting! Yes, I have been very frustrated with the size and proportion offerings for online card makers. None of them really offers a "skinny" card like the proportions of many of the historic decks!

Love the title of this video, Marilyn! The Rosenwald Tarot is not only superbly charming, it IS VERY cool indeed! ❤ Yes absolutely, Florence is the capital of Tuscany.

Yes. I know Perugia is in Umbria. I guess it could have been printed in either of those cities, who knows? Florence is so magical, so there's that, but I bet Perugia is too.

@musingsbymascha I don't know what you mean. Have I upset you in some way? I think it can't be denied that there's a reasonably good chance that the Rosenwald was published in Perugia since the book was and it stands to reason that maybe the publisher who printed the book, printed the deck. It stands to reason if we use critical thinking. There's no doubt of the Florentine influence, but they aren't that far apart.

@ NO! Quite the opposite, dear Marilyn! 🤩You mentioning Perugia got me very excited!😍 I had that place at the back of my mind, but you mentioning it and Umbria now made me want to learn more about and visit it next time I make my way to the magnificent Italy! 💕

The book looks so interesting! Gonna search for it ! Thank you😊
I am also very into how the flow of colors is or how the characters are moving in my readings.
It was a pure pleasure for the eyes again Marilyn! Love, ~Sebastian

@langeblanc494 Hi Sebastian 🥰 It's fascinating how color or direction might affect a reading. My next video will be using these three to throw a spread and see how they might differ depending on the color patterns, or directional differences. Please stay tuned!

I was going to try for today, but I'm under the weather today, and tomorrow I have my grandson, and nothing gets accomplishedwhen that little monkey is around. So I think it will me Friday unless I feel better this afternoon. Thank you for your presence Sebastian. You guys all make it worth it! xoxo ~ Marilyn @langeblanc494

@langeblanc494 Thank you Sebastian. Even I'm amazed I've got over 500 public videos on my channel. I think it will take a long time to watch them all. Some are better than others. I wish there was a way to organize them better than playlists. I created some before I even knew what a playlist was 🤣. xoxo
