    I wonder does that wax make the chain hold onto dirt and grime even more?

    ALWAYS turn the wheel clockwise, no chance of getting fingers caught between chain and sprocket 😬👍

    Of course we know how to clean and lube a chain, we need to know how you jacked up the bike being a single sided swinging arm. OMG.

    • @fergiewoo8190

      Hi Spottydog, I used a paddock stand for a single sided swing arm bike.

    I used to just use wd40, a single glove and a chux wipe without a stand. Would tear a paper towel in half and wrap each handlebar grip. Cup the exposed part of the chain with the folded chux wipe holding in your left hand with the glove on then spray with the right hand. Then I'd wheel it forward a little to expose more chain and repeat 3-4 times until an entire chain length rotation was done.
    I would do that on a more regular basis as it only took a few minutes. Occasionally If I was really in the mood after cleaning with the WD40 I'd apply a dry PTFE chain wax but most of the time didn't even bother.
    At the end I just pull off the paper towel handlebar grip wrapping and while holding the chux wipe pull the glove off over the top and put it in the neighbours bin which was right next to where I park the bike. Go inside and wash my hands with dish soap then moisturise and job done.
    I had 30k km on the bike and the chain still seemed fine. On my old 250 I never used to maintain the chain because I didn't know of an easy way to do it. In the end the chain corroded and actually snapped in half.
    Now if I get a bike serviced I tell them not to lube the chain because they use that greasy sticky stuff that just turns to dirty glue and is hard to remove and get the chain clean again.
    Disclaimer I would only do a couple hundred km's in between each chain cleaning. If I was going for a longer non commute ride I'd do it the night before.

    300 mile chain cleans? Bloody hell. Thats a weekly for me then,i think not! Life is too short.

    • @Dara-ih6jq
      @Dara-ih6jq 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lol there are easier ways to clean it. This is just the most traditional and cost effective. But you really should keep your chain clean because it can lead to bigger and more expensive problems if you don’t. Just google or look up on TH-cam chain cleaning machine. The thing I use takes 5 min to clean and lube all together it’s just a bit more expensive for the convenience.
