I'd be interested to know the specifics of the question, and how it was asked (vital in evaluating any survey). I get the sense that the question put to the people of Poland might have been "which group do you distrust *most*?", which, of course, would have hidden a lot of distrust of Russia (and others) under greater distrust of other groups.
As a Pole seeing my neighbour being invaded by Russia would make anyone not trust them. Say what exactly is stopping Russia from invading Poland like they do Ukraine now?
NATO partnership is the only thing stopping Russia from invading Poland. Russia can easily invade Moldova and Georgia as well but anyone that's in NATO Russia won't touch because they know the alliance will destroy them

Recent actions, such as Russia’s involvement in Ukraine and efforts to exert influence in the region, have only reinforced fears of Russian expansionism and further undermined trust in its intentions.

It's interesting how they reference relatively minor historical events like Operation Bagration, while overlooking the elephant in the room like USSR invading Poland in 1939 in the first place. Anyway, as a Pole, I can tell you that the distrust towards Russians is not because of historical reasons but because of the most recent ones: - The cold blooded request in 2022 to bring Poland back into Russian sphere of influence (Putin's demand to move NATO borders back to 1997), as if it was a product on a market. - The persistent claim to superpower status despite lacking the economic and technological basis to support such a position - The illusion that Russia might be the mother of all Slavs and that we belong to its "family", as if common language roots were a bond. Generally in Poland all the times under Russian influence are associated with oppression, poverty and violence. If someone in Poland today is impressed by the power of the authoritarian government, it's probably bunch of alt-right tankies that can't convince anyone to their ideas and would love to be authoritarian leaders themselves. Recently, I thought Russia's history as a bully was just that - history. And that it's working to improve it's image, its relationships with neighbors and most importantly the life of its people. I used to be really fascinated with Russia and really wanted to travel there. Nothing cured me out of it as well as listening to Russians themselves. Anyway, I really appreciate you doing the video polls Danil, really great job, those are exactly the questions I'd like to ask too.
Operation Bagration was one of the greatets offensives of WW2, and a start of the push for Victory, so it's a major turning point of the most important war theatre for Russia, and earlier small events like USSR annexing back lands that neighbours conquered from dying Russian Empire are seen as unavoidable and natural, even if immoral. If there was no Polish-Soviet war before, or if Poland didn't take Ukrainian and Belarusian lands, perhaps an invasion in pre-Civil War Polish lands would be seen with much greater scorn. Take Finland: today the Winter War is generally seen with much less sympathy than the partition of Poland.
@@NorthonBruce It's exactly this kind of logical backflips and historical revisionism that's problematic. The reality is simple - the Soviet Union invaded Poland first. Their later fight against Germany wasn't driven by some moral opposition to Nazism, but because Germany turned against them. This kind of moral relativism is dangerous - it allows people to dismiss invasions and aggression as "just normal things empires do." You know what, no Operation Bagration would be needed in the first place if the USSR hadn't started the war. And that's the reason Poland is distrustful towards Russia. Always able to turn things around in such a ridiculous way.

Most Russians realised the Poles didn't trust them for historical reasons. The Poles also have every reason to distrust the Germans for similar historical reasons. The Poles have the misfortune to sit between two historical great powers and occupy a flat plain that doesn't present too many problems to an invading army from the west or the east.
1:46 Right, liberated Poland. He means chased the germans out and took it. And he also comfortably ignores the fact that Russia, prior to this, took half of Poland along with Germany and killed thousands of Poles withour mercy. Poland has every right to be very distrustful and i totally understand why they have such a huge army right now. The russian threat is real, as it has been for many years.
Correct, but more importantly, this distrust has nothing to do with history and everything with right now. Poles trust germany, that should say enough.
But the western population does believe what they are told on western TV and they don't realise that it is propaganda! The news doesn't reflect that ukraine is losing the war. The head of the UK armed forces claimed Russia are losing 1500 casualties a day but that claim was not challenged and further more he gave no corresponding figure for ukraine's casualties, so it was clearly a one sided viewpoint. He was clearly peddling propaganda but gullible western audiences believe it. The truth is that Russians recognise BS from their media but western audiences are too gullible to recognise BS from our own media.
As another contributor has . mentioned - Molotov/ Ribbentrop Pact 1939. Poland was conquered by Czarist Russia in 18th Century and under a Czarist dictatorship in the 19th. It fought successfully against Bolshevik Russia post-WW1 and were under Soviet control post-WW2... Poland threw off the Russian/Soviet yoke and helped free the rest of Central Europe from that from regime in the early-1990s. And you ask Polish people why they detest the Russians? Poland has sprung to vibrant life in 30 years and I was there to see it in the 1990s and in Russia at the same time. The Poles fought with both allies against Nazism and then Communism and it cost them dear. But they never flinched and are a shining example to us all of a brave and free people. From a Brit.
Just look at the recent history of Poland's conflicts with Russia (the Soviet Union): 1939 - Germany started the war by invading Poland on September 1 and on September 17 the Soviet Union immediately attacked Poland from the east. (Perhaps even today in Russia they know what the Soviets did to Polish officers and intelligentsia in Katyn back then). 1944 - Soviet troops deliberately stopped in front of Warsaw, even though the population was bleeding in the Warsaw Uprising against the Germans, and so many people died needlessly and Warsaw was virtually all razed to the ground. The liberation of Poland by the Soviet army was bought by more than fifty years of vassalage and slavery under the dictates of the Soviet Union. This applies to all European countries that were under the Soviet Union until 1989 (GDR, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Bulgaria, Romania...).
Let's not forget the Polish Operation by NKVD in which the USSR murdered over 100k ethnic Poles (20% of the Polish population of the Soviet Union) and sent another 50k into concentration camps. And the people they deported to Siberia during WW2, of which some 300k died within a year.

That's the fascist 2-step; whenever the corruption and incompetence inherent to fascism shows-through, double-down on the "infallible" dogma ("Russians are inherently superior!") and make-up an enemy on which to blame your failures, instead of taking responsibility for and doing the work to correct your mistakes. To be clear, Putin is definitely an enemy of Russia, but not because he's some super-spy foreign agent or Fifth Columnist; it's because fascism's "we're never wrong" assumptions always crumble when faced with the reality that, without accountability, power tends to accumulate in the hands of those who want it for its own sake, and not for the good of anyone else. Such people only steal, because their presumption of superiority means they assume that they "deserve" anything and everything that they want, whether they've earned it or not. I found this comment to say what I think about it, so sorry man xd I want to state obvious things for English speakers to see this and understand my way of thinking, avoid bias in future. Didn't watch video past this guy's statement, it's hard to watch. The perception of this speech may be difficult due to peculiarities of the ways of thinking and the commitment to agenda of one of opposing sides (and I must say that the agenda in one form or another is present in all countries, otherwise it would be harder to push people into confrontation, and propagandists would have nothing to eat). One can go down a dangerous path, talking about Russia and Russians as a super-aggressive phenomenon, devaluing majority of Russian population, who are simply trying to live in the conditions created. This whole situation is very upsetting. I leave above disclaimer so that, as a Russian, I can respond to your comment in context. Imagine that people can live in a country and not support line pushed by government, while not having opportunity to choose/change that line. Democratically tempted people may find this difficult to understand (although even in such countries, parties with an undesirable way of thinking are sometimes banned). People can consider government treacherous, this happens, and it also happens in many countries. Than more radical ideas pushed by government, more radical in context of country can be considered people with softer and more understandable values, for example, pro-European people. And radicals are usually suppressed in any country. So you can see consequences! Apart from this guy's speech, ideas of pan-Slavism among Russians seem to be no less strong than pro-European ones, and in this vein, Russians I know treat Poles extremely positively, just like other Slavs, including Ukrainians. Therefore, events happening in east Europe today can be considered as betrayal towards Slavs as a whole. However, many complain about negative opinion of other Slavs towards them against background of political moves. Paradox. Let's try to analyze situation using a subjective example. I don't like to see criticism and humiliation addressed to me by Ukrainians/Poles I don't know, although neither I nor my friends have done anything to these people. Collective guilt is absurd! There are about 130 million Russians in the world, but for some reason in eyes of some people I don't know, I personally am a bastard and a murderer. I'm not even completely Russian (bicultural) and don't live there! I don't wish death on anyone, especially since I worry about such close peoples as the Poles or Ukrainians. I communicate with people from these countries who are well-disposed towards me, because, fortunately, not everyone considers me a murderer. Ofc I don't accuse you personally of hating people. Returning to the topic of propaganda, are Russians really such an aggressive and hostile people? Am I a threat to world order? Or is this point of view formed based on what you see at the state level? No, we don't need to hate each other. Glory to power of internet and humanism. All this shit must be stopped.
Why do you think the Poles distrust Russia so much? Hmm, what could have happened in the last couple of years to make them think that way, I'm stumped.
It has no relevance to today, so it's not a reason, just a piece of propaganda rhetoric. Reich invasion was also terrible and happened at same time, but why don't poles hate germans? And what about polish intervention in russian empire many centuries ago? What about soviet union's repression of many russians (with other nations in ussr) - should russians hate russia?.. Maybe, but! xD
AI response: Poles distrust Russians. Are the Poles justified in this thinking? Yes, the distrust many Poles have towards Russians is rooted in a long and complex history of conflict, oppression, and betrayal. There are several key historical events that have contributed to this sentiment: 1. Partitions of Poland (1772-1795) Poland was wiped off the map for over 120 years due to partitions by Russia, Prussia, and Austria. The Russian Empire played a major role in this, suppressing Polish identity and culture. 2. Polish-Soviet War (1919-1921) After Poland regained independence in 1918, it faced an invasion from Soviet Russia. The conflict was part of the Soviet attempt to spread communism westward, but Poland managed to repel the Red Army. 3. Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact (1939) A secret agreement between Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union led to the joint invasion of Poland in 1939. This pact effectively split Poland between the two powers, leading to occupation and severe repression. 4. Soviet Occupation and Katyn Massacre (1940s) During World War II, the Soviet Union occupied eastern Poland. In 1940, the NKVD (Soviet secret police) carried out the Katyn Massacre, executing over 20,000 Polish officers, intellectuals, and elites. For decades, the Soviet Union denied responsibility, further deepening mistrust. 5. Communist Era (1945-1989) After WWII, Poland fell under Soviet influence and was forced into the Eastern Bloc as a communist state. The Soviet-imposed government suppressed political freedoms, and the presence of Soviet troops on Polish soil was a symbol of lost sovereignty. 6. Modern Conflicts and Mistrust Even after the fall of communism, tensions have persisted. Issues such as energy dependency, Russian disinformation campaigns, and recent geopolitical events (like the annexation of Crimea) have reinforced Polish wariness towards Russia. Given this history of conflict and subjugation, it is understandable why many Poles remain cautious and distrustful of Russian intentions. The scars of past actions have left a deep imprint on the collective memory of Poland.

Yeah. Based on this survey (for whatever it's worth), apparently nearly half of all Poles trust Russians to some degree or have no opinion one way or another. Considering 20th century and more recent history, I find that pretty damn surprising.
Well, we see what "guests" from countries of the "religion of peace" are doing to our Western neighbors, you don't need a war to turn life into hell.Besides, this is about the first place in the distrust ranking
In fact, *only* 57% -- this is surprisingly low number. I'm afraid, if you revert this question, and ask, how many Russians don't trust Poland -- result definitely will be higher than 90%.
I noticed that there's one nationality/ethnicity missing from that survey: Poles. Maybe a significant proportion of Polish people are just cynical bastards who don't trust *anyone* - personally, I think that's quite a sensible approach to life.
According to Roman Dmowski (one of the fathers of reborn Poland), the greatest threat to the Polish nation/Poland are Jews and Germans. If there were not so many Jews in the Kingdom of Poland, the Germans (Austria, Prussia) and Catherine (German Tsarina of Russia) would not have been able to erase the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth from the map of the world in the 18th century.
Probably because of what Israel is doing to Palestinians right now and the fact that some Jewish groups were trying to portray themselves as the only victims of WWII, even blaming Poland and Poles for what happened and demanding that property of their families from the pre-WWII is returned to them. Such buildings previously owned by Jews are now inhabited by someone else, not to mention that most of them needed to be rebuilt and that they are making their claims to the wrong address because it was not Poland that started the war and followed the idealogy to eradicate Jews (Poland was their country at the time). Distrust to Ukrainians comes from distrust towards its government and the fact that it does not want to acknowledge that Ukrainian natotionalists committed genocide on Polish civilians during WWII. These people were not allowed to be buried by their relatives and their bones lie scattered throughout Wołyń and East Galizia. Perpetrators of extremely cruel crimes against Poles have their monuments in all of Western Ukraine and are treated as heroes because they were fighting the Soviets too. As you can see, Poles do not particularly like those try to falsify the reality, so it may explain why distrust towards Germans is lower. Germans do not deny moral responsibility for WWII. Financial resposibility for rebuilding the destroyed country is a totally different matter. Poland needed to rebuild itself on its own.
It's a long story: around 1300 Polish kings invite Jews to Polish cities (to develop the economy) - for 700 years they lived here in relative peace (of course there were some bad times - as like in medieval Europe which blamed all evil on Jews) - However(!) in Poland they lived prosperously. We were not ideal for them but we tolerated them - they were rich, they had factories, shops, big houses. After 700 years- you came, Germans. After the II Word War massacre there were not many of them left in Poland - and their factories, shops turned into ruins after the war. Poles rebuilt part of it. However they have a grudge against us: - because we did not defend them (how?) - after the war we did not give back our estates - what estates? Everything was in ruins. Who were we supposed to give it to- if everyone died!! The government in Israel hates Poland - for something we were not guilty of. That is why we do not trust them. That is all

Y’know, cоmmunism was kinda peaceful compared to Germany’s regime, or you’d prefer to stay under the nаzis? If not for Russia you would, so indeed they liberated Poland, same as the rest of Europe which were all under the Germany.
Maybe because most Poles know basic history and that Stalin and Hilter formed a pack to jointly invade and carve up Poland for themselves, which they happily did in 1939, setting of a chain of events which resulted in millions of Poles (and other dying). Not satisfied with this, Russia after the war refused to give Poland back it independence until the Poles did it themselves.
From history we learn that many hordes have invaded Europe, e.g. Mongols, Ottomans. But today there is still a country that lives out medieval traditions. Eastern European countries that have freed themselves from Russian dominance, like Ukraine today, will defend their sovereignty with all their might.

Anyway, as a Pole, I can tell you that the distrust towards Russians is not because of historical reasons but because of the most recent ones:
- The cold blooded request in 2022 to bring Poland back into Russian sphere of influence (Putin's demand to move NATO borders back to 1997), as if it was a product on a market.
- The persistent claim to superpower status despite lacking the economic and technological basis to support such a position
- The illusion that Russia might be the mother of all Slavs and that we belong to its "family", as if common language roots were a bond.
This kind of moral relativism is dangerous - it allows people to dismiss invasions and aggression as "just normal things empires do."
You know what, no Operation Bagration would be needed in the first place if the USSR hadn't started the war.
And that's the reason Poland is distrustful towards Russia. Always able to turn things around in such a ridiculous way.

Just look at the recent history of Poland's conflicts with Russia (the Soviet Union):
1939 - Germany started the war by invading Poland on September 1 and on September 17 the Soviet Union immediately attacked Poland from the east.
Aren't you confused by the presence of historical sources indicating that Poland went to negotiations with the Nazis much earlier than the Soviet Union and dreamed of an alliance with them against the USSR? sweet summer kids
@@yourchante Poland signed a genuine non-aggression pact. The USSR signed a pact to start a war and split Europe into two spheres of influence for the Soviet and Nazi colonial empires.

Dmitry has a very special (or should I say Russian) understanding of liberation. You "liberated" Poland from Germany only after you occupied half of the country according to a pact with Germany. Maybe you should talk to Ilya. He didn't sleep in history class, although he slurped up all the recent propaganda.
He did sleep in history class, if he didnt he would not know about the more accurate facts surrounding ww2
"We liberated Poland from Germany?" I bust out laughing on that one. Mikhail seems a little bit "programmed". He's arguing that the world was afraid for their people to see a successful socialist state, speaking about the Soviet Union. So successful they collapsed after 70 years of killing their own people in Gulags, prisons, just plain starvation and fiery speeches about taking over the world. On some of these videos, I think so many have their eyes open, but people like Ilya scare me.
You are right. Germany itself is captured and under the influence of the USA. The USSR withdrew its occupation troops from Germany 35 years ago, but the USA did not.

1:30 that switch was weird AF, went from spouting the Kremlin line that there is no reason for people to not trust russia, to calling Putin a traitor.

I found this comment to say what I think about it, so sorry man xd
I want to state obvious things for English speakers to see this and understand my way of thinking, avoid bias in future.

There are several key historical events that have contributed to this sentiment:
1. Partitions of Poland (1772-1795)
Poland was wiped off the map for over 120 years due to partitions by Russia, Prussia, and Austria. The Russian Empire played a major role in this, suppressing Polish identity and culture.
2. Polish-Soviet War (1919-1921)
After Poland regained independence in 1918, it faced an invasion from Soviet Russia. The conflict was part of the Soviet attempt to spread communism westward, but Poland managed to repel the Red Army.
3. Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact (1939)
A secret agreement between Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union led to the joint invasion of Poland in 1939. This pact effectively split Poland between the two powers, leading to occupation and severe repression.
4. Soviet Occupation and Katyn Massacre (1940s)
During World War II, the Soviet Union occupied eastern Poland. In 1940, the NKVD (Soviet secret police) carried out the Katyn Massacre, executing over 20,000 Polish officers, intellectuals, and elites. For decades, the Soviet Union denied responsibility, further deepening mistrust.
5. Communist Era (1945-1989)
After WWII, Poland fell under Soviet influence and was forced into the Eastern Bloc as a communist state. The Soviet-imposed government suppressed political freedoms, and the presence of Soviet troops on Polish soil was a symbol of lost sovereignty.
6. Modern Conflicts and Mistrust
Even after the fall of communism, tensions have persisted.
Thank you for your effort !

I am from Germany and seeing the scale of distrust is shocking for me - people in poland distrust jews more than us germans?
WTF?
You gotta be insane to trust jews with anything.
It's a long story:
around 1300 Polish kings invite Jews to Polish cities (to develop the economy)
- for 700 years they lived here in relative peace (of course there were some bad times - as like in medieval Europe which blamed all evil on Jews) - However(!) in Poland they lived prosperously. We were not ideal for them but we tolerated them - they were rich, they had factories, shops, big houses. After 700 years- you came, Germans. After the II Word War massacre there were not many of them left in Poland - and their factories, shops turned into ruins after the war. Poles rebuilt part of it.
However they have a grudge against us:
- because we did not defend them (how?)
- after the war we did not give back our estates - what estates? Everything was in ruins. Who were we supposed to give it to- if everyone died!!
The government in Israel hates Poland - for something we were not guilty of. That is why we do not trust them. That is all
No one is looking at the present, it's all about history and about history

Maybe because most Poles know basic history and that Stalin and Hilter formed a pack to jointly invade and carve up Poland for themselves, which they happily did in 1939, setting of a chain of events which resulted in millions of Poles (and other dying). Not satisfied with this, Russia after the war refused to give Poland back it independence until the Poles did it themselves.
