That's a perfect bike for those roads- a big English single. I hope that one day I will have this bike. I've never ridden it but I loved it from the very first review. As you say, there was a connection. That sound, don't normally like chrome but that look. Tastes of tomato soup, warm, comforting, does you good. Add a bit of paprika, gives you an unexpected kick, a woo hoo if you like. Perfect for a gentle burble but if you want to get somewhere quickly, off it goes. Thank you for an unprejudiced review, uncluttered by comparisons. It is its own bike.

@@TAYM Well thanks for asking! First I really like the RE brand and the bikes. OK the Super Meteor...the US market has not been kind to cruiser style motorcycles without a US tie in such as Indian and HD (Yamaha Bolt for example). They do sell but in small numbers. RE would need to market outside of its current niche here. Price would be it's main selling point, weight is less of a concern here so no big deal, looks is too subjective, performance should be OK. How they roll it out will be key: I'm thinking easy going touring cruiser. Problem here is it doesn't fit the image they built up for the rest of their bikes. It's a big gamble on their part. Whew!
@@JW-ym5yb interesting, I see different but similar issues here too, if you know what I mean 😊 I feel they’ve built a really good bike that doesn’t fit anywhere 🤔 thanks for that 😊

Time will tell about the company. Still not convinced about the parent company commitment to the brand, and I really want it to succeed. Love that big single. This bike, the BSA, would make a perfect stablemate to my T120 here in the USA if it ever shows up! The idea of a big single capable of handling stupid freeway speeds with too much traffic would make much more sense than one of the RE singles (they are too underpowered for USA city travel imho). I do love the look of the BSA though it reminds me more of my 1968 BSA Shooting Star 441 single than of a Gold Star. Thanks for the revamped test, very enjoyable.
I wonder how many BSAs you have sold because you are getting me very tempted excellent video PS you can always give the tank a little shake to see if there’s any petrol left 👍 just like Steve McQueen did on his Triumph 😃
On the edge of my seat hoping that you don’t run out of Dino Juice! And it doesn’t matter what others think really. The more variety in the market, all the better.
Lovely mutter and ride, out on the BSA again, if you fancy a laugh watch Neevsie from MCN strap a large jug of milkshake to the back seat of the BSA and Interceptor, he concludes the suspension on the Interceptor is better, the milkshake seemed to confirm :) Although comparing just 2 bikes is always flawed, even if it was amusing.
Yes I did see that, hilarious 😂😂😂 Mind you, I would like to see him do it with £18K sports bike too 😂😂 Not sure there would be any left in the jug 😂😂😂 thanks Shard 😊
Sounds like a pillion test ride with Mrs Taym is needed , for her valued opinion. But be careful you might want one even more if it gets a positive verdict. 😂
Another top review on another top bike by another top reviewer😃. You know your going to buy one! Nothing’s is forever, you could buy this bike and drop one of the others and rotate a classic bike every 6 - 12 months if the channel will support it. If nothing else the freshness of content will keep the channel vibrant and buoyant 🚢. Non of them will be hard to find and purchase again if you regret a sale. The Tiger 900 can have a reprieve as the serious 2-Up steed.
I’m glad you don’t have four wives in the garage. They wouldn’t like the thought that soon one of them has to go!, 😱 Good review BUT….. I thought it might be the 850TT Guzzi that swung it. That will be my first go to test bike this year as I just love its looks and sound. The BSA sounds on video like the Royal Enfield Classic 350, or is that my tinnitus! Keep them coming. Stonham bike show in May I note.
And like four wives, they’re all safe, it’s purely platonic …….. at the moment 😂😂😂😂 yes the 85TT is quite a bike with a lot to offer 😊 it does sound like a cross between the 350 and 500 which is what I sort of like about it. 😊 Stonham in May you say, marvellous 😊 thanks MP 😊
sounds great and it's looking to be a good bike but i think my nearest dealer would be 45 miles away 😒. As for swapping out your stable, there's only one that could go and that's Wendy!
My nearest Triumph R.E dealership is about 60miles away & I would consider that local 🤣for me & where I live.Japanese dealerships only 20-25mins away but I'm not really interested in a Japanese bike for the road,a on/off road like a Suzuki DRz 400-650 be great on the gravel & many here in NZ are converted into Adv bikes.Add bigger fuel tank & rack marvelous bikes being low weight 149kg for 400 & 160kg for 650.Sadly they have come to a end for road use in 2021 cause no Abs on rear.
Some good thoughts there on the BSA. It does seem to be a fun bike from a rider's perspective. It always makes me wince when someone mentions tax, even if it is Rotax, but I will get over that. I don't think that I will be selling my Interceptor(s) though. 👍😁
Thanks GBD 😊 I don’t think anyone with or thinking about getting an interceptor will be swayed into getting the BSA instead, I think they are two different bikes that cost about the same. Saying that, there are some terrific deals on Royal Enfield at Colchester Kawasaki at the moment. 😊
Another enjoyable video I rode the Hunter 350 on Friday it was ok I would sell my classic 350 or Meteor for it I did find the riders pegs were not in the ideal position when I went to put my feet down Plus I rode the Hornet CB750 on Wednesday it was only a brief ride I found different to all the other Hondas as I thought the engine has character not electric motor smooth like most Hondas plus the standard exhaust sounds great I am having a full road test this week
Eh brilliant to see you back on the Goldstar and where it looks great in that lay-by The silver sheen is middle march so there’s still time to check out all the colours for me .. I love that red and Need so see them all! I don’t care what people think I also think it’s a great looking bike and rides superbly 😊😊 I put fuel in the one I took out just in case Thanks for putting it Back on again 😊😊😊
Nice video TAYM. I like your chosen route with all of it's twists and tuns. So much better than a blast up and down the A12 just see how fast it goes in a straight line. Although that test runs out at 70mph if you want to keep your licence. Is it as good as a V4 Panigale? well then ... you know when they both reach 70 mph they are the same and I wouldn't be surprised if the new BSA isn't actually a better bike ( as a motorcycle) than the original. Better lights, brakes and reliability for sure. Take care out there TAYM
Nice review, running around them country lanes, looks a nice bike not sure about the price only time will tell how reliable they are, will be good to see the outcome. Keep up the good work Mr TAYM and look forward to 4k subs. 👍
Won't be long before there be custom built BSA & companies making aftermarket parts for it. Actually doesn't need much customizing beyond the usual adjustable levers, tyre's, suspension, radiator guards, sump guards etc if you want to do this that is. Dug dug dug dug I wonder what the dog's 🐕🐕🦺🐩🦮will think of a larger single,I'll think they'll love it but it's not a Bertie.
My problem, if I was in the market ,and I'm not , is that for the same price I could buy a secondhand BMW R nine T. Someones got to buy the new bikes I know and for that we shouldn't be too critcal. The bike sounds like it could do with getting rid of the cat and silencer and putting a proper sounding pipe on, I think big single should sound like its being propelled by the exhaust not the cam belt.
You must have had the bike in " Yorkshire Mode " so as not to run out of petrol . You're obviously a fan of the new beeza . It seems to work well on the B roads. If it were a dog breed what would it be ? A "Golden" Retriever perhaps ?
The Yorkshireman in me says the cheapest to buy and maintain, the W800 😊 The stressed, romantic in me says the Interceptor 😊 The dreamer in me says the BSA 😊Thanks AB 😊
@The All Year Motorcyclist Great Answer. I do love the look of the W800 and particularly the engine. Apart from the spoken about vibrations in the 3.5 to 4k range, it seems really good. I'm a Scotsman that lived in North Yorkshire for 6 years, so what chance do the other two have???
@@TAYM Interesting you think the W800 the cheapest to run. Maybe it’s my local Kawasaki dealer asking too much but have you any idea what to expect to pay for a full service including tappets at 7.5k km and at 15k km? £422 & £729 respectively, ouch! That’s given me pause for thought. Before I go the whole hog and buy one I might try to find someone more reasonable if he exists. Any thoughts?
@@simonwalker7957 I think that’s worst case scenario and in fact the valves of those I have spoken to, have needed nothing more than a check, even at 40k, which should at least half the service costs 😊
I like the bsa. But no centre stand. That's a big issue for me. Cramped garage and paddock stands when you are on your own can be a wee bit risky when deploying. Rotated bars forward on monkey. I.m loving riding it on the back roads. It's now equal 1st fave with 500 trials. 😄👍
A few points I would make its a modern bike made to look classic and it works .....its a Rotax motor ..I had an MZ with a 500 Rotax motor in it which was superb ...I had the Enfield 500 classic good bike but poor on a motorway...I know you shouldn't expect it to be good on an m.way But the BSA is good around the back roads And it would sit at 70 all day ....so would be a much more practical machine for every day....can you take mrs Taym on the back to see what a pillion thinks of it ?
All the new generation RE’s have had to prove themselves and they have, I don’t see why this BSA should be any less reliable. I expect the new owners will be very happy
I was scared you would run out of fuel the whole video…. Don’t say that again will ya!🤣🤣 I just love the BSA, a lovely looking bike! I’m sure there will be one some day in your collection😉
From all the reviews I've read (and there's been a few. I'd suggest that. Although it's more prevelent in the comparison reviews, it seems to me that amongst the comments, the new BSA has engendered some very partisan views. I'm not sure if (some of) the RE owners feel threatened by the new Gold Star but, from my perspective at least, more choice can only be a good thing. I've ridden both and there's very little difference and certainly nothing to make one bike significantly better. As such, just go with the one that speaks to you. In my case, that's the BSA but, there again, I own a few vintage BSA's and don't own any vintage Royal Enfield's so perhaps I'm an unwitting BSA "fan boy".
@The All Year Motorcyclist this is true. My old zl600 i had to hunt for e5. 🫣even along major roads in west wales. These days I guess can get phone apps.
Hey Taym ! All said and done really I think any single cylinder bike isn't about speed really it's more for a sedate country ride with lots of torque to pull you up those hills and out of the bends .Well when it comes to it they just aren't for naughty people are they more for the discerning motorcyclist in a a wax cotton jacket I think 😉.Do you know of anyone who's received their bike yet by the way ,of course if you put ace bars on it your going to look like you want to be a naughty boy TAYM and then of course you need the big boots and studded leather jacket 😂 . I still much prefer the T100 or Inter without doubt but having said that it is a tidy bike and BMW used/use Rotax so it can't be to bad .Only half a chain guard why would that be then ? are the tyres tubeless ? so which bike will you be sacrificing TAYM ? 😊👌👍
It is the year of the naughty boy bike🤔 but everyone needs a sedate ride 😊 more useful and more suited to todays roads😊 we are lucky to have such a good choice 😊 thanks Crumb😊
Unless I am very much mistaken I think you are definitely falling for the Gold Star. You're already thinking of mods you'd like to do. I reckon that the legacy version with the ally mudguards, a pair of ace bars, Hagon shocks and a megaphone style exhaust can and you'd have yourself a lovely little clubman replica. What's Mrs Taym's verdict? that's the real test.
Oh what a conundrum you've given yourself and still not had Mrs TAYM on the back 🤔🙄 Still I can't see anything taking her eye off the Rocket 3, that fairly gave her a glint. Mind you that's an even bigger quandary given the price 🤑
Just one very minor point...where you say ‘they all do that’ (referring to the exhaust discolouration)...note that the RE twins have double skinned headers with the outer skin chrome plated (precisely so they don’t discolour). Personally I don’t mind either way but some people do, and since this bike is consistently compared to the RE twins it’s probably worth pointing out. I can’t recall which review I was watching but the exhaust was melting the reviewers boots - I notice this demo bike also seems to have scuff marks in the same place - did you notice anything in this regard?
Yes I did. The black mark you can see on the exhaust is a marker pen mark identifying where something or someone has hit the pipe possibly in prep for repair. The bike gets moved about in vans and things so possibly damaged in transit or by a clumsy demo rider. I personally couldn’t see how my foot could touch it. Thanks CH 😊
@@TAYM I’ve been in to Derbyshire on the Trials today, to Bakewell for a pudding. Thanks Martin! 🤣But now after the tank, I’m sitting a dark room swaying from side to side 🥺 Actually I may take a run later in the week to one of the ‘nearby’ BSA dealers as I did last week for Moto Guzzi to look at the Mandello. And stare at them! I should have taken my step ladders for the Mandello. 🤭🤣
So it would have to be the Kawasaki or Tiger for the chop? You ain't every going to get rid of your Enfield, The T100 has that memory linked to your dad so that a keeper, The Tiger is for longer journeys so my bet is it would have to be the Kawasaki but I doubt you would trade for the BSA.
Hello you made this vidéo to convince madam ?yes this bike is beautiful it has nice curve and a soul this single cylinder firmer suspensions are normal compared to the Royal Enfield because it is faster than the 500 and must have better handling and as it must remain cheap........oh i already love this bike it has this single cylinder which for me is a soul, a spirit that unfortunately not speak to everyone.....but when he speaks to you you have returned no matter waht people say the controls or the radiator or whatever she makes you vibrate...like my Royal Enfield does...even though I couldn't get on it I already love it polyamory exists! So friend you expand your garage?😀😉✌️🇨🇵
This is a classic example of how NOT to release a new motorcycle. BSA are falling over themselves to take a deposit from you, but there are no bikes actually for sale yet on the showroom floor. They have absolutely botched the release, dragging it out for far too long. And if they think that people will be happy with a plastic chrome mudguard, and plastic instrument lenses, good luck with that.
They’ve certainly made some booboos but hopefully all sorted now. Bikes ready to collect either this week or next and some choosing not to take delivery until the new reg in March . 😊 thanks KD😊
@@TAYM No. My weight limit is 400 lbs. The real Goldstar, DBD34, weighed around 380 lbs. This, plus a frame that was almost as strong as the featherbed, gave it splendid handling and made it a winner (once you could get it running.)
The Indian manufacturers assume that weight doesn't matter for bikes. We see this in the new Norton--500 lbs for a "cafe racer," complete with pushrods and 1930s technology. Then there are the new Triumphs and BMWs featuring motors that belong in cars--1200ccs and up. More weight=less handling. Probably the builders will assert that these motors are required by EU emissions standards. The Aprilia 660 proves them wrong.
Marvellous Motorcycle!

Nice vlog, cheers mate
Thanks RI 😊
sounds great and it's looking to be a good bike but i think my nearest dealer would be 45 miles away 😒. As for swapping out your stable, there's only one that could go and that's Wendy!
Ssshhh Wendy might hear you.
Thanks Ice 😊 yes that’s true but just don’t think I can 😊
Absolutely sssh 😂😂😂😂
Such a shame 😕
Some good thoughts there on the BSA. It does seem to be a fun bike from a rider's perspective. It always makes me wince when someone mentions tax, even if it is Rotax, but I will get over that. I don't think that I will be selling my Interceptor(s) though. 👍😁
Thanks GBD 😊 I don’t think anyone with or thinking about getting an interceptor will be swayed into getting the BSA instead, I think they are two different bikes that cost about the same. Saying that, there are some terrific deals on Royal Enfield at Colchester Kawasaki at the moment. 😊
@@TAYM Ha ha! Lesson learned: Always taste a Royal Enfield before purchasing. 😂😂

you should test ride the old beemer f650 - it's the same engine so possibly a good comparison.
Good idea, I shall try and find one😊 thanks Unc😊
Another enjoyable video I rode the Hunter 350 on Friday it was ok I would sell my classic 350 or Meteor for it
I did find the riders pegs were not in the ideal position when I went to put my feet down
Plus I rode the Hornet CB750 on Wednesday it was only a brief ride I found different to all the other Hondas as I thought the engine has character not electric motor smooth like most Hondas plus the standard exhaust sounds great
I am having a full road test this week
Marvellous, very jealous 🥴 sat on the hornet and fired it up but not ridden it yet. 😊 thanks HS, any photos? 😊
Eh brilliant to see you back on the Goldstar and where it looks great in that lay-by
The silver sheen is middle march so there’s still time to check out all the colours for me .. I love that red and Need so see them all!
I don’t care what people think I also think it’s a great looking bike and rides superbly 😊😊
I put fuel in the one I took out just in case
Thanks for putting it Back on again 😊😊😊
😂😂😂 brilliant, I think the black 😊 thanks Phil 😊
Nice video TAYM. I like your chosen route with all of it's twists and tuns. So much better than a blast up and down the A12 just see how fast it goes in a straight line. Although that test runs out at 70mph if you want to keep your licence. Is it as good as a V4 Panigale? well then ... you know when they both reach 70 mph they are the same and I wouldn't be surprised if the new BSA isn't actually a better bike ( as a motorcycle) than the original. Better lights, brakes and reliability for sure. Take care out there TAYM
Spot on DT, spot on😊 but you try convincing others 😂😂😂
Nice review, running around them country lanes, looks a nice bike not sure about the price only time will tell how reliable they are, will be good to see the outcome.
Keep up the good work Mr TAYM and look forward to 4k subs.
👍
Thanks Steve 😊 4K 😂😂 I can dream 😂😂😂
Won't be long before there be custom built BSA & companies making aftermarket parts for it.
Actually doesn't need much customizing beyond the usual adjustable levers, tyre's, suspension, radiator guards, sump guards etc
if you want to do this that is.
Dug dug dug dug I wonder what the dog's 🐕🐕🦺🐩🦮will think of a larger single,I'll think they'll love it but it's not a Bertie.
Thanks RR 😊 it is nice but it certainly isn’t Bertie 😊
My problem, if I was in the market ,and I'm not , is that for the same price I could buy a secondhand BMW R nine T. Someones got to buy the new bikes I know and for that we shouldn't be too critcal. The bike sounds like it could do with getting rid of the cat and silencer and putting a proper sounding pipe on, I think big single should sound like its being propelled by the exhaust not the cam belt.
Very true 😊 I am sure all manner of things will be made for it eventually 😊 thanks FBS 😊
Now Mr. TAYM, you're playing with fire. How many times is this now on the Gold Star?
☺️ 😂😂 I don’t know, i stop counting after one 😊 😂😂
Does Mrs TAYM like it, a two up review would be interesting.
I shall try to arrange 😊 she hasn’t seen it in the flesh yet 😊 thanks TG 😊
You must have had the bike in " Yorkshire Mode " so as not to run out of petrol . You're obviously a fan of the new beeza . It seems to work well on the B roads.
If it were a dog breed what would it be ? A "Golden" Retriever perhaps ?
Thanks Dung 😊 I would imagine it would be a Kombai 😊
Another informed and considered review. If you could only have one bike, which would you choose between the BSA, Interceptor and W800?
The Yorkshireman in me says the cheapest to buy and maintain, the W800 😊 The stressed, romantic in me says the Interceptor 😊 The dreamer in me says the BSA 😊Thanks AB 😊
@The All Year Motorcyclist Great Answer. I do love the look of the W800 and particularly the engine. Apart from the spoken about vibrations in the 3.5 to 4k range, it seems really good. I'm a Scotsman that lived in North Yorkshire for 6 years, so what chance do the other two have???
@@albarclay4882 😂😂😂 none 😂😂😂

Your 500 trials is marvellous 😊 I have watched the monkey Dix 😊 marvellous video 😊 thanks Charlie 😊
@@TAYM I will send one to email. One of best edited I ve ever seen.
Thanks WR 😊 Absolutely agree 😊 I will investigate the two up position but have a feeling CK insurance wont cover two up. 😊
All the new generation RE’s have had to prove themselves and they have, I don’t see why this BSA should be any less reliable. I expect the new owners will be very happy
Thanks JB 😊 Totally agree 😊

I agree, there is certainly some folk who fall into that category 😊 thanks CD 😊

Well, I think your mind is made up, but……..which colour would you go for, and more importantly, which bike would you let go to buy the BSA ??? 🤔
I am still working on it 😊 I only have a little brain to work these things out 😂😂 but black I think 😂😂😂

Third ride! You want one don't you 🙏😉great looking bike wish I could afford one 😢
Thanks PD 😊 I most certainly do😊😂😂😂
So, when are you buying one.
😊 it would be nice 😊
Thanks CH 😊

Beyond compare...? I suggest a Ford F 150. This obese barge needs one more detail: two more wheels.
Have you ridden one?
@@TAYM No. My weight limit is 400 lbs. The real Goldstar, DBD34, weighed around 380 lbs. This, plus a frame that was almost as strong as the featherbed, gave it splendid handling and made it a winner (once you could get it running.)
@@jeremykeller211 😊
The Indian manufacturers assume that weight doesn't matter for bikes. We see this in the new Norton--500 lbs for a "cafe racer," complete with pushrods and 1930s technology. Then there are the new Triumphs and BMWs featuring motors that belong in cars--1200ccs and up. More weight=less handling. Probably the builders will assert that these motors are required by EU emissions standards. The Aprilia 660 proves them wrong.
@@jeremykeller211 interesting 🤔 the new super meteor certainly supports that theory weighing in at over 500 pounds😊
