Pretty much, a lot of his tracks are "warnings", "call-outs", or summons for anyone out there that would gog toe-to-toe with him...and they won't. Aes is the 🐐
the repetition in the beginning with just a few things changing is so compelling to me. it feels just like being in a dire living situation, whether because of depression or grief or just not being able to get out of your head. and then those last few bars of the song feel like a punch right in the gut. i dunno, this track's hitting me hard this week.
Frockday?! An Aes reaction every Friday?! Black Snow is one of my favorite tracks on that album! You should give Bermuda a listen, with some lyrics pulled up!
Loving these Aes reactions. Maybe check out Salt and pepper squid next? Ponzu Sauce ft Aesop Rock & Breezly Brewin from the newest blockhead album also goes kinda hard.
like is on and great video and i would like to see (DMS feat. Horkýže Slíže - Rampa |Official Video|) / DMS= grupe D=Dame [Raper], M= Monsignor Separ [Raper], S= Smart [producent,DJ]/ Horkýže Slíže=Horkýže Slíže is a Slovak punk rock band. At the beginning of their career, they mainly played hard rock, later comedy rock, which is also referred to as naive punk. Today, the group is focused exclusively on punk rock.
Think about black snow as being depression or some other mental illness and the beginning of the song is about a well put together life and as you notice it keeps getting worse and worse throughout the whole beginning and the second part he’s fighting it and the vary last line “the forecast ain’t right “ is basically saying not today I shut that shit down.
So ive been listening to this for a while and felt like Aes using Black Snow as a very obscure concept of stuggle. Then it clicked that he mentioned shoveling coal and sticking out a tongue and tasting it...dirty smile. Is he talking about the salt and pepper moth expansion that happened in London (I think) because of the coal being burned there causing the surrounding area by factories being coated with soot and ash. The white moth population plummeted while the pepper moth flourished because birds could see the white ones better in the snow now that it was all gross. Maybe he's saying that he's like the black moth that struggled up against the ropes initially, but now that everything looks like a wasteland, he thrives because he's more adpated to swimming through shit than the people who never struggled. Maybe? Edit: It must be.. the singing literally talks about falling back into snow, flailing your arms and legs like your making snow angels that all look similar, and mentioning how they look different now that the snow is black. He talks about "Ashes, Ashes" and talks about plague which is about London. It's gotta be where he's going with this.. Couple months and BIO 171 finally kicked in.
You're right, It's multiple layers of meaning. The Black snow is not any one thing, it takes many forms. It's the Environmental issue about the moths, It's the Bad things in your brain you contend with to stay true to yourself, It's the negativity in the world around us, and ultimately, it's the Anxiety and Paranoia of being almost frozen in place and feeling helpless as if nothing you do will pull you out of your funk or change the world around you. But Aes has the answer from the start. He's telling us the solution, You gotta keep doing things, living life. He continually acknowledges the Black Snow, that the world SHOULD be a better place ("Precipitation should be Clear or not at all... BUT") with an emphasis on the "but" of that line, acknowledging that things are bad, BUT... You gotta keep going, you have to keep doing things, you have to keep trying, you have to keep moving. And when you can't, you have to visualize and imagine what you'll do when the weather turns foul, no matter what. Life's gonna keep going ahead regardless of what you do, and the good you can do, the things you can get off your chest, even the smallest amount of environmental change has to happen in order to do anything at all. No matter what is happening, you can be a counter force to that happening, and you may seem as ill equipped as a pebble slowly being crushed by a boulder. It's all a callback to "Infinity Fill Goose Down"'s line "Detective on some 'how you get so mega extra ultra?' I said 'Never check the weather and always dress for the tundra'" Which is why it's a beautiful close to this album, tying everything into a neat package. This whole album Is about Aes working on solving his personal problems, through taking them on head on, acknowledging them, knowing his own issues, and through that, combating them. The ITS Is basically a new service in Aesop's life, and everything doesn't always work out, with the analogy of "Being up against the ropes", but still he's still fighting back, And this time he knows he's gonna "Thread the whole cyclone eye", or rather, he has to treat the fight like he is whether he succeeds or not. Black Snow Cheats, Black Snow has Horshoes in it's gloves, And is a literal STORM against one man, and Aes knows that even though the fight is called, and that it seems like it's pointless to try, "The forecast... AIN'T... RIGHT!"
Great breakdown. Really enjoyed all the things you noticed and pointed out
